It only has approximately five hundred and fifty (550) people living there. It is located in the Duhaney Park, St. Andrew. The investigator became aware of the situation by way of observations and investigations. The investigator has been living in the community for the past sixteen (16) years and had noticed that most of the children in the community were brought up in a single parent family. This may pose a problem as children could get accustomed to liking one parent more than the other or maybe they just simply don't know their other parents. Being aware of this, the investigator decided to do some research within his community on single parent families. He also investigated some of the possible reasons why the other parent was not around. Method of Investigation The method of investigation used by the investigator was questionnaires. Questionnaires are not only easy to use, but they allow the persons being investigated to remain anonymous as they are not required to write their names. Kennedy signed Executive Order 10925 on March 6, 1961, which established Equal Employment Opportunity, it has opened doors for minorities. (OFCCP, 1961) The order informed contractors doing business with government take affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed, and that employees are treated during employment without regard to their race, creed, color, or national origin. Four years later, President Lyndon B. ...not Enough? The dynamics of the American family have changed. No longer is a working father, stay at home mother, and kids considered the norm. Even the definition of “family” has changed dramatically. Changes in the American “norm” raise an important question, “Should the Family and Medical Leave Act be changed?” to meet our communities evolving needs. In the United States, the current Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) only provides up to twelve weeks of unpaid leave, but compared to other counties with similar policies the act does not have enough coverage to protect the average worker and should be changed. A woman walks into her human resources office crying, asking to speak to someone. She is currently on FMLA leave to care for her sick child who has been diagnosed with leukemia. She is a single parent with two other children at home to care for as well. Even with insurance coverage, the bills are mounting because FMLA is unpaid and she has exhausted all of her personal time off (PTO). With her steady income cut-off, she is concerned how she will pay her bills. She has no close family to turn to for support and does not qualify for government assistance. Her story is just one example. According to the United State Census, in 2010 single parent households comprised about 9.6 percent of the total U.S. household population. Sales at the Seattle-based microbrewer had increased at an average rate of 53% per year since 1984, and September 1990 had been another record month. After eight years of operations, Redhook's ales and porters had captured 50% of the increasingly competitive microbrewery market in the Pacific Northwest. Demand was projected to exceed, in two years, the 40,000-barrel annual production capacity of the company's single brewery. As a result, current plans called for the construction of a similar-sized brewery in the Bay Area of northern California. There were also plans to introduce a lager brand which would require the construction of a third, larger brewery in the Puget Sound region of western Washington. Expansion on this scale would require significant outside financing. Shipman and Mickelson were seeking a $5 million equity infusion from a well- established European brewery with an interest in entering the North American market.
