...Virtual Teams: A Review of Current Literature and Directions for Future Research1 Anne Powell Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Gabriele Piccoli Cornell University Blake Ives University of Houston Abstract Information technology is providing the infrastructure necessary to support the development of new organizational forms. Virtual teams represent one such organizational form, one that could revolutionize the workplace and provide organizations with unprecedented levels of flexibility and responsiveness. As the technological infrastructure necessary to support virtual teams is now readily available, further research on the range of issues surrounding virtual teams is required if we are to learn how to manage them effectively. While the findings of team research in the traditional environment may provide useful pointers, the idiosyncratic structural and contextual issues surrounding virtual teams call for specific research attention. This article provides a review of previously published work and reports on the findings from early virtual team research in an effort to take stock of the current state of the art. The review is organized around the input – process – output model and categorizes the literature into issues pertaining to inputs, socio-emotional processes, task processes, and outputs. Building on this review we critically evaluate virtual team research and develop research questions that can guide future inquiry in this fertile are of inquiry. ACM Categories:...

...Enjoy that Expresso: The Benefits of Caffeine Jesse Russell 12/3/12 It's midnight. Your mid-term exam is tomorrow morning, and you have just started studying. What's more, you are already exhausted from a event-filled day. How are you ever going to manage to resist the overwhelming forces of fatigue and drowsiness? How are you going to stay awake? When faced with this daunting dilemma or a similar situation, most people turn to caffeine for the energy needed to pull through the night. Whether you sipped at a tall latte or chugged a few Mountain Dews, you know you couldn't have done it without caffeine's help. On the other hand, you may heavily rely on the invigorating boost from your morning brew to jump start your day. Regardless, the conclusion remains the same: Caffeine immensely influences our daily lives. In “How Caffeine Works,” Marshall Brain states that “between 80 and 90 percent of adults and children habitually consume caffeine.” in North America. Furthermore, the average intake of caffeine is 280 mg, which is about a cup and a half of coffee (Brain et al). These statistics explicitly demonstrate the deep integration of caffeine into our culture. But why are Americans always attracted to caffeine? What makes it so alluring? Is it helpful or harmful? A simple study of the effects of caffeine on the human body will produce irrevocable evidence about the many benefits of caffeine. More specifically, caffeine beneficially interacts with adenosine, dopamine...

Many believe that all the parts of an aloe vera can cure different illnesses. It is widely use for its medicinal content. It is also widely use as hair wash to prevent falling hair and baldness. Bromodosis (smelly feet) is one of the problems of the office workers and also students. It is a common problem caused by build-up of sweat. Human feet have more sweat glands than any other part of the body. Shoes and socks can prevent sweat from evaporating or being absorbed, which attracts bacteria. This bacteria cause sweat to smell bad, leading to Bromodosis. There are many factors that cause Bromodosis. Shoes and socks made from synthetic materials increase the amount of sweat an individual produce and do not allow it to evaporate or be absorbed, so the feet stays wet. Another factor is hygiene, infrequent washing of the feet and not changing socks at least once a day can allo bacteria to thrive, contributing to foot odor. Stress can also be a factor. The researcher conducts this study in order to produce an alternative cure for Bromodosis which is convient and cheaper than other commercial foot products. The researcher also wants to know if, with the use of aloe vera, is it possible to treat smelly feet. And the researcher wants to discover other medicinal property that Aloe vera have. ...a. One of the actors who should be interested in innovating for the BOP markets is the MNCs. For these companies large economic benefits can be reached and increased growth, as these markets grow at an incredible speed they can put an end to matured firms stagnation in growth. The purchasing power of the BOP population is higher than imagined usually. As a large company with economies of scale, it should be easy to produce a similar cheap product as the ones already in the BOP markets, but with better quality, thus market penetration can have a steep upward curve. Furthermore, for MNCs to outsource e.g. customer service to BOP market is a way to reduce costs, and it aids to enhance the growth of both the company and the BOP population, as their purchasing power increases. One of the smartest things to offer the BOP markets is connectivity, as this meets one of their most urgent needs head on and thus enables a strong market position for the company bringing it. Connectivity decreases the need for intermediaries, which improves access to the population and costs for the company. (Prahalad and Hammond, 2002) According to Prahalad and Hammond (2002), BOP markets have been the subject to social entrepreneurship and NGOs for several years, trying to solve the demands of the population, so clearly there are similar benefits to be reached by these actors. Small businesses and start-ups also show an interest, as for example in Uganda where a small business offers packages...

...A PROJECT REPROT ON MUTUAL FUNDS IN INDIA EXECUTIVE SUMMARY In few years Mutual Fund has emerged as a tool for ensuring one’s financial well being. Mutual Funds have not only contributed to the India growth story but have also helped families tap into the success of Indian Industry. As information and awareness is rising more and more people are enjoying the benefits of investing in mutual funds. The main reason the number of retail mutual fund investors remains small is that nine in ten people with incomes in India do not know that mutual funds exist. But once people are aware of mutual fund investment opportunities, the number who decide to invest in mutual funds increases to as many as one in five people. The trick for converting a person with no knowledge of mutual funds to a new Mutual Fund customer is to understand which of the potential investors are more likely to buy mutual funds and to use the right arguments in the sales process that customers will accept as important and relevant to their decision. This Project gave me a great learning experience and at the same time it gave me enough scope to implement my analytical ability. The analysis and advice presented in this Project Report is based on market research on the saving and investment practices of the investors and preferences of the investors for investment in Mutual Funds. This Report will help to know about the investors’ Preferences in Mutual Fund means Are they prefer any particular Asset Management Company...

...SINGAPORE FLAG [pic] DESCRIPTION [pic] The Singapore flag was officially adopted on December 3, 1959. [pic] The white crescent represents Singapore as a new nation, the five stars symbolize democracy, equality, justice, peace and progress, while white is representative of the purity and virtue of the people, and red stands for universal brotherhood. Map of the country / history [pic] History of Singapore According to legend Singapore was founded centuries ago when a prince from Sumatra landed on the island and saw a lion. He took it as a good omen and founded a city called Singapura, which means lion city. The legend may or may not be true. In fact the name Singapura was not recorded until the 16th century and Singapore was really only a trading post with a small population not a city. Modern Singapore was founded in 1819 by Sir Stamford Raffles (1781-1826). Raffles became a clerk for the British East India Company in 1795. He rose rapidly in the company. In 1805 he was sent to Penang and in 1811 he was made Lieutenant Governor of Java. In 1818 Raffles was made governor of Bencoolen on the island of Sumatra. Raffles believed the British should establish a base on the Straits of Melaka and in 1819 he landed on the island of Singapore. The island consisted of swamps and jungle with a small population but Raffles realized it could be made into a useful port. At that time two men were vying to become Sultan of the...

...ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR Introduction Organizational Behavior (OB) is the study and application of knowledge about how people, individuals, and groups act in organizations. It does this by taking a system approach. That is, it interprets people-organization relationships in terms of the whole person, whole group, whole organization, and whole social system. Its purpose is to build better relationships by achieving human objectives, organizational objectives, and social objectives. As you can see from the definition above, organizational behavior encompasses a wide range of topics, such as human behavior, change, leadership, teams, etc. Since many of these topics are covered elsewhere in the leadership guide, this paper will focus on a few parts of OB: elements, models, social systems, OD, work life, action learning, and change. Elements of Organizational Behavior The organization's base rests on management's philosophy, values, vision and goals. This in turn drives the organizational culture which is composed of the formal organization, informal organization, and the social environment. The culture determines the type of leadership, communication, and group dynamics within the organization. The workers perceive this as the quality of work life which directs their degree of motivation. The final outcome are performance, individual satisfaction, and personal growth and development. All these elements combine to build the model or framework that the organization operates...
