In the United States, the labor board requires eight-hour shifts, 5 days a week in order for a worker to recieve full-time benefits. The possibility of changing our work days from eight hours, to six hours could potienitally increase our workdays productivity and allow the workers to live a healthier lifestyle. Two authors put together news letters expressing their differences of opinion on changing our work days from eight hours, to six hours. A six hour work day would give each employee more rest, intially giving them more motivation and energy. Futhermore, working an eight hour shift you only recieve an hour long break. In order to maintain a safe, and successful working enviorment you need your emplyee's to be focused. "Most people …show more content…
Buisnesses could potientially lose money by reducing our work days, and employeers would have to hire more staff members to cover the empty shifts. Not only would this affect the employeers, but could also affect the employee's. "The economic cost of six-hour workdays is prohibitive. Either workers or the employer will end up paying for it. If it's the workers, they lose two hour wages each day."(Six-Hour Days Will Never Work, para2). In the end, it will be the employee's who have to pay, and give up a quarter of their usual pay. A full-time worker recieves benefits such as health plans, which in this case would be revoked because they would no longer be working a full-time job. "Conditions need to be much worse for eight -hour workers before a shorter workday would be seriously considered"(Six-Hour Days Will Never Work, para3). The author opposing of the six-hour work day, in the last paragraph goes into detail of more important controvirsal issues we are dealing with right now. Stating gender and miniority wage gaps need to be expressed, that here in the united states we have very fair, and safe work enviorments that need to be praised instead of asking for shorter days. I agree there are bigger issues to confront, but I don't see why we can't start here by making small changes for healhier and more productive …show more content…
I think our minds and our bodies need enough rest every day to produce the most effective work. As someone who does work full-time, keeping myself focused on my work task for an entire eight-hours is challenging most days. "Most people do their best thinking in late morning and late afternoon. This is partly due to biologic cycles of energy" (A Six-Hour Workday Is Plenty, para2). Early in the morning is the hardest time to get your brain focused, especially just when waking up. To eliminate this problem I believe starting an eight-hour work day any time before 9pm does not give you or your brain enough time to wake up and be productive for the rest of the day. In the end, this would only make work a more happy envoirment for everyone.
