Definition of a Boreal Forest!
A Boreal Forest, or taiga, is a forest mainly composed of cone-bearing, needle-leaved, or scale-leaved evergreen trees. There are two main Boreal Forest biomes however these are very large. In Canada the Boreal
Forest biome nearly takes up the whole country. This is also similar in Russia. The

Plants:!
The plants in the Boreal Forest, as said before, are mainly conical shaped plants that have needles. The conical shape and needles is to make sure that they aren't always covered in snow and so that the trees can survive the harsh winters. The main species of trees are firs and pines.! !

Animals:!
Boreal forests, also known as taigas, are home to many species living species within the forest grounds. The forest is home to Arctic mammals such as black bears, Arctic foxes, Arctic wolves, geese, caribou, sheep, deer, moose, reindeer and ox. Birds are also abundant in the boreal forest, and they include the red tail hawk, eagles, owls and geese. There are not that many types of insects but there are some species, such as ants, mosquitoes and scorpions living inside the forest.! !
Weather:!
The plants and animals that live in the Boreal Forest biome have to adapt to days that vary between 5 Degrees Celsius and -5 Degrees Celsius and are really cold. Winters are very long and particularly cold and the days are short. It rains a lot in Boreal Forests and varies between 20 and
200 cm per year. There is also a lot of snow in Boreal Forests and winter is generally long compared to summer The Boreal Forest biomes around Canada and at Russia share plant life and animal life.

Interesting facts:!
Here are a few interesting facts about the Boreal Forest:!
-It makes up 29% of the Earths forest cover!
-It makes up 17% of the Earths land cover!
-The trees tend to have shallow roots because of the thin soil!
-Canada still have 91% of the Boreal forest remaining from the beginning on the first European settlement while only 5% remains in Scandinavia!
-Fires are very common to get rid of sick and old trees!
-Softwood timber is used to make paper, most of softwood comes from the taiga biome!
-The conifer trees never drop their leaves and are given the nickname evergreen. Because they never drop leaves the soil does not have much nutrients resulting in not much vegetation.!
