Sledding, and skeleton sledding, have been used as forms of transportation for many years. The skeleton sled was developed as a sport at the Cresta Run in Switzerland. Developed at the same time a Luge and Bobsled, Skeleton fell out of popularity due to the scarcity of sites where it could be performed, and that the only competitions available were at the Cresta Run.
