MGMT 592: Leadership in the 21st Century

Upon completion of reading the material on the traits of effective leaders I have determined my strengths and areas of improvement. This exercise will allow me to be refreshed in the areas of expertise while also allowing me to discover which areas I should seek improvement. The following three traits of my strengths are which I have learned and mastered over my lifetime of professional and military experience.
Three Strengths: 1. Self-confidence -
Self-confidence specifies self-assurance in judgments, decision making ideas, and capabilities (2010, Lussier). This area is my best trait due to my military background. Prior to entering the military I had very little self-confidence that resulted in not achieving my full potential. The military has taught me to be very self-confident and it allowed me to not have any self-doubt when I am on an assignment or any other type of endeavor. Therefore, I have carried over from what I have obtained from my military experience to my professional career and it has allowed me to contribute to my organization successfully and to receive positive feedback from upper management. 2. Integrity – Integrity refers to behavior that honest and ethical that can make one trustworthy to others (2010, Lussier). It is also linked with self-confidence because it takes self-confidence to be an honest and trustworthy individual. Growing up as kid, my parents have always taught me the value of honestly in any type of environment, such as not stealing, lying, or cheating. The military allowed me to refresh myself on integrity and after all it one of the 14 leadership traits of the United States Marine Corps. ...The aim of this essay is to evaluate my mentoring experiences. It will also discuss skills that I have developed and how that has impacted on my professional development. I intend to provide an action plan for my development of knowledge and skills as a mentor. I have worked within a large primary school for ten years and probably for about the last five years have been mentoring more inexperienced teachers in an informal capacity. While this score indicated that I have a higher level of self-awareness than the average business school students in the comparison group, it also meant that I have room for improvement.
