...luxurious resto with their high-priced coffees and I felt like I’m out of place. Increasingly out of place after I almost loosed my poise in my postponed spit-to-be coffee. The night was cold as we stay under the canopies of the star bucks coffee. As I look around, I am seeing people doing different stuffs. In the other canopy, I have seen a mid-aged group laughing and making fun of mingling with each other as they take their sip in their coffees while some were smoking fumingly. On the other canopy, I have seen a couple, which I never heard or seen them to speak with each other. Possibly, they had an argue or what so ever misunderstanding and they seem to be hesitant to throw words. Little by little, I’m starting to feel weird about myself. Being receptive wasn’t always good at times that I wanted to be relaxed with the hot cappuccino that unfortunately swelled up my tongue. At a moment, a sigh of relief came out from me after I saw my lola laughing after my big snap on her bibingkas. The tension that I’m feeling met its halt as my lola invited me to watch the fireworks display out of the canopy where we stay. Few minutes later, the fireworks were set out and lightened spectacularly the dark grey sky of that Christmas Eve. Those fireworks were like paints spilled evenly in the sky. Some were dimmed colored, some were neon; some were so dormant that it can merely caught the attention of the mob, while some were big enough that creates a wide embrace on the sky. I was really amazed...

...outside on a clear summer’s night, when all of a sudden a flash catches your eye. You whirl around in bewilderment as the black night sky flashes and dances with a whirling array of colors. The northern horizon is draped with an iridescent green, deep blues, sharp violets, scarlet reds, and bright oranges and yellows. You stand awestruck as the colors descend, like a melting rainbow, across the sky. Then, as quickly as they appeared, they vanish without a trace. This natural phenomenon is known as aurora borealis, or the northern lights, or better known as the dancing lights. Aurora Borealis is one of the most exotic and difficult concepts in astronomy. The colours of aurora borealis are fomed by the collision of gas particles in the Earth’s atmosphere with charged electrons from the sun’s atmosphere. So, today I will inform you about the different types of gas particles that are involved in the production of the colours of aurora borealis. I obtained the all the information about Aurora Borealis from the book entitled The Amazing Northern Lights authored by Syun-Ichi Akasofu. First of all, the big player in the formation of lights of the aurora borealis is oxygen. Oxygen is responsible for the vivid green light and also for a deep brownish red light. The emission of the deep brownish red light occurs at high altitudes of the aurora. At high altitudes, the earth’s atmosphere contains a greater percentage of atomic oxygen and is very thin like a hard vacuum giving the atoms...

...The Distance to Andromeda by Gregorio C. Brillantes The Boy Ben, thirteen years old, sits there and wide-eyed before the screen of the theater, in the town of Tarlac, his heart thumps in awe and excitement, and his hands are balled into unconscious fists, as the spaceship burns its blue-flamed journey through the night of the universe that is forever silent with a high metallic hum. Enclosed in time within the rocket, the ship itself surrounded by timelessness, which is in turn framed by the boundaries of the cinema screen, the last men and women and children of Earth watch the asteroids, the stream of cosmic dust, the barren planets drift past the portholes like luminous flowers at once beautiful and monstrous, floating in the ocean of space. The traveler search the night for another world of air and greenness, remembering the end of the Earth, the Final War, the flickering radioactive fires upon the lifeless continents. Beyond the dead seas of Mars, and beyond the ice-bound tomb of Neptune, past the orbit of Pluto and out into the black immeasurable depths, the rocket flashes onward, through years of space and time: a moving speck among the twinkling stars, propelled by the flame of its engine and a certain destiny. A sun looms up from the blackness, more golden and more gentle than the star they have always known; and as a globe of shining water and green-shadowed land appears through the viewports; they break out into jubilant cries and dazed whispers of thanks to God. Cradled...

...cotton like clouds that floated gently up in the sky. I closed my eyes desperately to ignore the pressure that I could feel in my delicate ears; I never liked this part of the journey as I always feel unwell. I decided to distract myself listening to my favourite music until I landed. Eventually the plane joggled on to the hard concrete runway and with relief I exhaled looking at every one in the plane with a reassured smile of happiness. Everyone was clapping and cheering as if we have accomplished a major success. I rushed out of the plane as soon as the door opened; breathing in the fresh air into my worried lungs. I was finally in Turkey. I was hustled into the crowded airport; it was busy as a hive of working bees. I could hear the crowd chatter in an unusual language that I did not understand, but I kept on observing my surrounding making my way to the silver coloured busses heeded for the central city. I thought to myself, here I come! With a joyful smile on my face. I finally reached the treasured city of Turkey, Istanbul. I could feel the warm wind welcoming me as I walked down the crowded road full of colours and liveliness of people. I could hear the music being played everywhere, the sun was shining brightly in the light blue sky above me. I could see the humongous mountains in the background looking down at the city from afar. There was no words to describe the scenery. The pattered blue and gold mosques towered high above me and made me feel very insignificant....

...of the year 13X2. Parties and celebrations had begun and people were cheering leaving the whole world surrounded in noise. Though our energetic hero Syrup Man who flew above with his crimson cape and flannel shirt could not be satisfied. He could sense it, something was wrong, something was going to happen. Though however many minutes passed nothing did, leaving our red headed hero thinking, maybe it was all in his head. He headed home flying as the ball was dropped and cheers arose like a roaring dragon shouting into the deep night sky. Finally arriving at his home he looked up, watching the sky painted by fireworks. That's when he noticed it, a massive black and silver...

...Bay beach. As I scroll along its shores tiny soldier crabs can be seen scattering about the milk white sand; filled will pebbles that seem to be arranged in a pattern of sizes, some are round and small while others are wide and squared shape. The sand beneath my feet is soft and smooth as the calm atmosphere encircles me. The sun is warm and illuminates the endless waves as their rhythmic pounding fills the air, flowing forward to reveal its sudsy unity of white covering the big flat rocks in its path. I look into the distant endless airy blue sky filled with clouds that form pictures of faces and stout figures; the sky seems to be in unity with the sea. I watch the fluttering shadows of wonderful white creatures with long black beaks and, short dark brown legs as they hunt and devour the crumbs left behind by previous visitors. I long to embody them as they soon drift endlessly in the wind without a care, leaving echoes of their high pitched screeching noises behind. As I walk further down its narrow path there is a cluster of boulders that encloses the end of it creating a natural fencing. I lounge upon it and view the small white boats in the distant, floating among them are orange buoys they seem to be playing a game of peekaboo with their bobbing motion. I watch the boats sail further and further into the distance...

...unhealthy. There should always be time for letup. Everyone needs to get out of work mode once in a while. My cousins enjoy the beach as much as I do, and my cousins always invite me to tag along with them. When I visit the beach, I can personally say that I always create new memories. This past summer, I only got the chance to go to the beach one time, but I still had an amazing time at the beach. The day I went to the beach was perfect. The sun was high in the sky, and the clouds provided just enough shade. The weather for the whole day was beautiful. The sand on the beach was warm to the skin. It felt as if I was walking on a bunch of pillows. As soon as I sat on the beach I completely buried my feet in the sand. The waves where flowing in because of the boat traffic in the distance. The sound of the waves were almost putting me to sleep as I laid on the shore. Many people play recordings of wave sounds to put themselves asleep at night, but the real sound of waves in person is extremely move effective. The water, the sand, and the sky was just exceptional. I could not dream up a better day. The setting of the beach was just right. The great part of the beach is people give off positive energy. People at the beach are always in a good mood. When I am at the beach, I feel at peace. Everything around me seem to be calm, and it feels as if the world is in slow motion. The beach is a place to kick back relax. People should approach the beach with no worries. The energy at the beach...

...The Moon and the Stars By: Jed Basilio The story of how the moon and the stars came to be in this world is quite fascinating. IN the ancient land of Greece long ago, there was a beautiful young girl named Alexis. She had beautiful long black hair and the brightest of blue was cast into her eyes. Although Alexis was known for her beauty, she was also very skilled for her archery skills. Alexis often boasted of her skills and beauty. Artemis was walking through the land on earth and she saw Alexis shooting arrows and was fascinated with such unique techniques. Artemis wanted to make Alexis part of her hunting group. “Alexis I suppose?” asked Artemis “Yes, and who are you?” questioned Alexis “I am but a mere old lady awe of your skill. Will you come with me?” said Artemis “Where are we going?” Alexis curiously asked “You will find out soon enough.” Said Artemis as she revealed her true form In amazement Artemis had asked Alexis to stay with her and her huntresses. Alexis agreed and went back to get all of her belongings as her life was about to change tremendously. The work began right after and Alexis, Artemis, and the huntresses found Artemis’ secret base under a great big oak tree. Under the ground was a very intricate system of tunnels leading to many different rooms. The whole day was dedicated to training. Although Alexis was tired and worn out, Alexis could not fall asleep and saw that Artemis was awake and found out why they called her the best huntress in...

...The City was a neon bonfire. The girl's pink hair glowed. She furrowed her eyebrows when she looked down upon her hands. Strange, scrawling inks climbed up and down her palm, twisting and turning about her fingers in an intricate dance. They resembled snakes, or dragons, or jifarins in her mind. She smiled. She hadn’t seen a jifarin in quite some time. She looked up, and saw the Star of the Day begin to rise. Her vision beheld the dark, cool sky – the stars invisible and hidden by the strange lights that mortals have created below – seared away by the glory of the Resplendent Daystar. She smiled as she saw the darkness fight back. The dark blue of the night sprinkled the sky with ash gray blood. In the end, the Resplendent Daystar always won....

...Follow your heart I know the sun will rise every morning, even there are clouds. I know the birds sing Melodious songs, because I have heard from the empty enclosure of my room. I know the sky is blue though the clouds, the grass is green even when I stand in the desert. I know the branches of the trees dance into the movement of the wind eventhough the wind still. I the flowers have beautiful smells that the ocean never sleeps, and that rain falls upon high mountains. It has been said, long before these words were written, that if you blind an archway for your heart with neither look your door, life would pass freely through that archway in harmony with your senses. Touch your FRIENDS, HUSBAND or WIFE, and they are strangers no more, hold them as you touch the delicate petals of an orchid, or put your hand in gentle string or feel the sand beneath your feet, or climb upon the rocks on the shoreline. Listen to their words, their breathing, their heartbeat and their footsteps on the stairways they come to you, as you would listen to rain cascading of waterfall or tiny breeze. Speak to them of love, of the harmony of nature, of quiet understanding a moment, the simple things in life which one can find peace of the truth you have found as you would have. Let your mind in actions explode, with all the awareness as you like you’re forgotten lanterns of happiness, as you found the peaceful clearing in the jungle of society.: Love is everywhere. It is the nightsky where the stars...

...because I knew I would be ridiculed and laughed at, but what happened to me cannot be bottled up anymore. On the way home from work we saw a bright light hovering in the sky over a hill. We drove towards it to get closer. It was orange and reddish color. Mike stopped the truck and we all observed the object in silence and awe. I was so amazed that I felt the need to get out of the truck and closer to the object. It was so close to us at this point. The guys started freaking out and yelling, “Get back in the truck Travis!” I was right underneath this object. It was so shiny and metallic. The noises it made are difficult to describe. The sound was more like tones but not from the frequency for humans. The object seemed like it was several football fields long. Then a beam of light came from the bottom of the object and hit me. I looked at the guys and I so the horror on their faces and as I attempted to run back to the truck I realized that I couldn’t move. I was paralyzed. That’s when I started to fade in and out of consciousness. When I woke up I thought that I might be in a hospital. Then I realized that I was in some sort of cocoon. It was a slimy thing with bubbles. I punctured it with my hand and some light came through. As I crawled out and looked around I could see that I was several stories high and there were hundreds of other cocoons. I was naked and frightened. I jumped. I floated and at a slower pace than one would if they were to jump from the same height on...

...exterior, was the most beautiful. Furthermore, it was the easiest to see, as the building would get progressively brighter the closer you would get to it. It was also the most dangerous building to be around, as without proper protection, the light reflected of the building could be blinding consequential to your decisions. In comparison to everything over the horizon which was bathed in the sunlight, everything under the horizon, was despondent with darkness. Consequentially, each house and each store, whose peak was under the horizon, was smothered in darkness. Chthonic dealings were never caught, due to the dark spell cast upon the voluminous city. Even at midnight, the sky was brighter than the caliginous graveyard-like city. Airplane pilots would exhibit amazing skill when taking off and landing their high-tech planes – without crashing into each other. After all, only those with said amazing skill, were allowed to fly. Although the shops were smothered in darkness, luscious smells emanated from within them, each with their own mouth-watering taste. Bakeries baked crackling brown bread, whilst sweet shops created stunning, sugary, edible works of art. Restaurants specialized in several cuisines, each one appealing to their indigenous crowds. The overall smell was an astounding mixture of smells from all the different shops, which resulted in a thrilling climax for my taste-buds. Finally, my eyes started to shut, whilst my mouth started to water, and I started to feel drowsy;...

...Peer Review “Hidden in a Bed of Flowers” ¹ Lauren attempted to use several techniques throughout her photographs. Overall in all the photographs she used low horizon, shapes, high horizon, color, value, rule of third, emphasis, deep depth of field, narrow depth of field, texture, and form. She was definitely successful in achieving her goals due to the fact that I was able to see all the techniques and differentiate between them just by a glimpse at them. In the first photograph of the “Gradient Sky” she used the techniques of low horizon to showcase the gradient colour of the sky. Secondly, shape is used in a way that the silhouette show shape through the outline of the barn. Finally, there is an element of colour included as well with the sky in a combination of blue and orange and they are complementary colours highlighting each other. I think she was successful achieving colour and low horizon as the colours are easy to point out for example the blending of all the colours in the sky during the sun set or sun rise. Low horizon is also well attained. I think in my opinion 1 technique she can definitely improve a lot more could be on the element of shape. Shape can be improved by slightly moving towards the right side to include the entire picture of the house and the outline of the barn so the shape could be a lot more noticeable. This would also help due to the fact that the windows of the house would be a lot more obvious and easy to consider as the element of shape...
