Slavery has been dated back to 1860 BC and although slavery is no longer legal anywhere in the world. The crime is now found in human trafficking which has become an international problem and an estimate 25-40 million people are living as an illegal slave. When people hear “human trafficking”, the first thought to come to mind is “sex trafficking”. Which is approximately 22% of human trafficking, while 68% is forced labor exploitation and 10% state-imposed labor. Since it is the third largest international crime industry, it is hard to stop. The reason why trafficking is difficult to end is because people are trapped. They are threatened and brainwashed to believe they have no value, making them scared to come forward. Just like Antonio and thousands of other workers who were promised money and work hours, become trapped in a lie that was told to them by their employers. Being told a lifestyle of promises of pay that whittled away to nothing because of rent, food, water, and transportation to and from the fields. They had this dream that turns into a life tightly controlled by fear. Living in fear, people like Antonio would be locked in shacks at night and only unlocked in the morning to be transported to the fields. There they would pick the fields and would be threatened with violence and death if they attempted to escape. On occasions their employer would take them to a small local grocery store where they were allowed to shop with the little money that had left. When the opportunity arose, Antonio saw his chance to escape when the employer fell asleep when keeping watch. After four months in slavery, Antonio and others were able to run to the highway and escaped. Now, Antonio continues to work with crops but under his own control,
