The most interesting thing I learned from the documentary "Sleepless America" is that sleep deprivation may be associated with obesity. I find it interesting because I‘ve always believed that sleep loss was a symptom of obesity. However, the documentary states that people who sleep less can gain 2 pounds if they limit their sleep to four hours in five days. Also, when people don't get enough sleep they tend to eat during the period they would be sleeping. In addition, restricting your sleep can make you crave sugar, carbohydrates, and lower metabolic rate. Short sleepers also consume 500 calories more per day than people who get enough sleep.
