My grandmother lived to travel and see new places. She has traveled to states such as Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, Ohio, California, and many more; she has also been to another country, India. Well, last summer she decided to take both of my parents, all four brothers, one sister, and myself with her on vacation to the beautiful Smoky Mountains. We not only visited the Smoky Mountains, but also Cades Cove, Pigeon Forge, a look out peek, and some really stunning waterfalls. My most interesting memory is of my vacation to the glorious Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. The drive to Tennessee was long, but there were so many breathtaking sites on the way, especially at night when all the big cities were filled with bright beautiful lights. When we finally arrived at the condo we stayed in, and it was amazing; it had a balcony, three rooms, a kitchen, a living room, and two bathrooms. The resort that the condo was in had two very large magnificent swimming pools, a sauna, a gym, two hot tubs, and a golf course. The condo was amazing, but we didn’t stay there much, as we did activities all day. I could just not wait till the next morning to really start our vacation. The first day we woke up and went and ate a big tasty breakfast at a little restaurant that was …show more content…
Though I cannot recall the name, it was just absolutely breathtaking. We had to travel up the mountain for awhile before coming to a big parking area, and then it was time to hike. There was a long trail with lots of big rocks and tall trees. Then when the trail finally ends, it comes to a big balcony looking places that is six thousand feet in the air! Even though I am terrified of heights, I could not help but to marvel at the magnificent sight before me. I could see the tree tops, the town way below, and it was just like the view ceased to end. I can’t even put into words how majestic this was. I will defiantly never forget that

Chincoteague Vs Great Smoky Mountains Research Paper

...Chincoteague vs. The Great Smokey Mountains- Which place is the better vacationing spot? Vacationing is one of my favorite things to do. However, I have many favorite places to go. Two of my top favorite places are Chincoteague and The Great Smoky Mountains. Chincoteague has beautiful sunrises and sunsets along with a beach. The Great Smoky Mountains has gorgeous leaves and mountain tops that are breathtaking. So which one of these is the better vacationing place? There are a lot of people at both, as they are both beautiful places to visit. Did you know that last year the Great Smoky Mountains had over 11 million visitors? Now 1 million to Assateague Island National Seashore seems dull in comparison. What attracts this many to each place?...

Should the State of California Permit Fracking on a Large Scale

...Agnes Kurthy BUS 140 – Research Paper December 2, 2013 Should the State of California Permit Fracking on a Large Scale Despite a recent decline attributed to a relatively nominal growth over the past couple of years, California continues to rank among the top 10 of the world’s largest economies. It is currently ranked as the world’s ninth largest economy, surpassing many developed nations with an annual GDP exceeding two trillion Dollars, according to a report by CNN last year.1 California’s crude oil and natural gas deposits are located in six geological basins in the Central Valley and along the coast. California has more than a dozen of the United States' largest oil fields, including the Midway-Sunset Oil Field, the second largest oil field in the contiguous United States. California is sitting on a massive amount of shale oil and could become the next oil boom state. But only if the industry can get the stuff out of the ground without upsetting the state's powerful environmental lobby. Running from Los Angeles to San Francisco, California's Monterey Shale is thought to contain more oil than North Dakota's Bakken and Texas's Eagle Ford, both scenes of an oil boom that's created thousands of jobs and boosted U.S. oil production to the highest rate in over a decade. In 2010, California produced 12% of the natural gas, 71% of the electricity, and 38.11% of the crude oil it consumes. The remaining electricity and natural gas was purchased from Canada, the Pacific Northwest...

Commute to Nowhere

...Commute to Nowhere By Jonathan Mahler Published: April 13, 2003 In the forest of khaki, heather gray and chambray that is the Gap's store on Fifth Avenue and 54th Street, the 6-foot-4-inch Jeff Einstein is a walking, talking redwood. The instant a potential customer breaches the invisible border of his department, he approaches to offer assistance. ''Too bad I'm not selling cars,'' he jokes with one pear-shaped man after setting him up with a pair of khakis -- 40-inch waist, cuffs, pleats -- in less than 15 seconds. There's something self-conscious about Jeff's act, as if he's trying to prove to himself that he's comfortable with his job. Or maybe it's that he's overcompensating for having been a bit slow to tell me about it a few weeks earlier. (''I'm working in retail now,'' he had said cryptically.) Either explanation makes sense. Jeff is not your typical Gap salesman. When his shift ends, we relocate to a nearby bar, and Jeff tells me the story of landing the job. The Gap was gearing up for the Christmas onslaught near the end of last year, and he was summoned for a group interview. ''There were about 20 people in the room,'' Jeff recalls, ''and each one of us had to introduce ourselves and talk about our most recent position. There was a cashier from McDonald's, a woman who had worked at Baby Gap, a ticket collector from Loews, a gift wrapper from Barnes & Noble. Then it came to me. I said I used to be an executive vice president and a director of interactive marketing...

Child Depression

...Risk and Protective Factors for Depression: Implications for Prevention Depression in Children and Adolescents Linking Risk Research and Prevention Judy Garber, PhD Abstract: The National Institute of Mental Health has called for translational research linking basic knowledge about vulnerabilities that underlie mood disorders to the development of effective preventive interventions. This paper highlights research about risk factors for depression in children and adolescents and links it to current knowledge about interventions aimed at preventing depression in youth. Basic epidemiologic and clinical research indicates that increased risk for depression is associated with being female; a family history of depression, particularly in a parent; subclinical depressive symptoms; anxiety; stressful life events; neurobiological dysregulation; temperament/personality (e.g., neuroticism); negative cognitions; problems in self-regulation and coping; and interpersonal dysfunction. These vulnerabilities both increase individuals’ chances of encountering stress and decrease their ability to deal with the stress once it occurs. Although several existing depression-prevention studies have targeted one or more of these risk factors, the efficacy of these various prevention programs for youth with different combinations of these risk factors needs to be investigated further. Most existing depression-prevention programs in youth have used cognitive– behavioral techniques, with some success...

...Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, admits that she often finds herself in the kitchen reading soup-can labels—or anything—in order to prolong the moments before taking pen in hand. John C. Calhoun, vice president under Andrew Jackson, insisted he had to plow his fields before he could write, and Joseph Conrad, author of Lord Jim and other novels, is said to have cried on occasion from the sheer dread of sitting down to compose his stories. To spare you as much hand-wringing as possible, this chapter presents some practical suggestions on how to begin writing your short essay. Although all writers must find the methods that work best for them, you may find some of the following ideas helpful. But no matter how you actually begin putting words on paper, it is absolutely essential to maintain two basic ideas concerning your writing task. Before you write a single sentence, you should always remind yourself that 1. You have some valuable ideas to tell your reader, and 2. More than anything, you want to communicate those ideas to your reader. These reminders may seem obvious to you, but without a solid commitment to your own opinions as well as to your reader, your prose will be lifeless and boring. If you don’t care about your subject, you can’t very well expect anyone else to. Have confidence that your ideas are worthwhile and that your reader genuinely...
