In many Pagan beliefs smudging is a method used for cleansing either an area, person or an item. It is believed that a room, person or item can pick up negative energies that are around and that by smudging these areas or items then the negativity is dispersed leaving a healthy energy instead.

It originated from Native American tribes and it is said that you ought to smudge your house or office at least a couple of times every year to get rid of all the negative energy. As well as getting rid of negative energy it also energizes spaces and can help people who are depressed or angry to get rid of their negative emotions

Format

...Your Research Paper's Format Recommendations here are based on the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers. It is important to note, however, that individual instructors and institutions or departments may vary from these recommendations somewhat and that it is always wise to consult with your instructor before formatting and submitting your work. Paper: Use white, twenty-pound, 81/2- by 11-inch paper. Erasable paper tends to smudge and should be avoided for a final draft. If you prefer to use erasable paper in the preparation of your paper, submit a good photocopy to your instructor. Margins: Except for page numbers (see below), leave one-inch margins all around the text of your paper -- left side, right side, and top and bottom. Paragraphs should be indented half an inch; set-off quotations should be indented an inch from the left margin (five spaces and ten spaces, respectively, on standard typewriters). Spacing: The MLA Guide says that "the research paper must be double-spaced," including quotations, notes, and the list of works cited. Heading and Title: Your research paper does not need a title page. At the top of the first page, at the left-hand margin, type your name, your instructor's name, the course name and number, and the date -- all on separate, double-spaced lines. Then double-space again and center the title above your text. (If your title requires more than one line, double-space between the lines.) Double-space again before beginning your...

College Football Helmet Research Paper

...Doing your research on companies before you hire them can make all of the difference in the world when it comes to keeping your college football helmets safe. For instance, ask what kind of packing material the company uses. Some use anti-smudge paper and liquid-filled pillows that expand and envelop precious cargo. Others, however, are not so vigilant when it comes to safety and use lower-quality materials that may result in damaged and broken goods. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for and you’ll probably have to shell out more money to get better service, but the piece of mind you’ll experience is likely worth...

Being a Dj

...The DJ Booth Even while standing inside a DJ booth can be loud and obnoxious, the excitement of playing music and controlling a huge crowd sends and unexplainable feeling through your body. When I first step into a DJ booth at Club Centers, located in the heart of Rochester, New York, my nerves start going crazy and butterflies hit my stomach so fast it feels like I have to puke. Just the sight of three turntables and an eight-channel mixer in front of my face is like sending a little kid into a candy store. While standing in front of my tables, I look to my right and I see my soundboard. This high-tech, silver plated sound machine stands about seven feet tall with about three hundred switches and knobs that control high pitches, low pitches, medium pitches and all of the digital effects. This soundboard is used when I put a shiny new record on one of the turntables. This will distort the sound quality of the song. The music sounds like a fire alarm, starting with a deep sound then rising to a high pitch screaming noise. As I look to my left, you see my beautiful blonde light girl working my light board. While the music is playing really loud, she will hit certain buttons that will make multi-colored lasers go in different directions and make many different shapes. Also, while the music is jamming, a common light known by many people as a strobe light will flash non-stop constantly. This light makes you see people dancing like robots and distorts the vision of that person ...

The Vark Method

Evaluating what is the most efficient and effective mode is the first and most crucial step. The mode needs to coincide with the topic and its complexity to be truly effective. A big plus, of course, is the ability to change the selected style and adapt the secondary style, which might prove more conducive to mastering the topic. Eccentric learning strategies are not typically commonplace, but are effective tools for the learning experience. Tactile stimulation is key to setting a foundation for the learning experience. Outbound Poem Analysis

...From line 8, however, is where we struggled most. I had difficulty with some of the vocabulary but after some research, we were able to understand that the double-dagger poles of power companies were simply power lines and they were replacing the previous image of the trees that the passengers had previously seen in hindsight. We had trouble with line 10 because the usage of the words footnotes did not seem to fit the poem the way we felt it should have. As Nina said, “In a formal paper it is [footnotes] used to cite or further explain something.” Anna had an “ah-ha” moment and in the process of explaining, lost both Nina and myself. Repeating the lines and elaborating a little more helped both of us understand. This is what she said, “ When you read it, it says a line of oaks comes into focus, so you see some trees, and it fades which means that the line of oaks is replaced by the double dagger of power companies, which we say power lines, and it says footnotes that redefine the trees. So footnotes are something that explains something...

Ergonomics of Pens

...Ergonomics of Pens * Mitali Prakash Vrinda Gupta Ask anyone who’s ever taken a timed, hand-written exam about the disadvantage of using a poorly-designed pen. Not only can writing with a sub-par utensil cost you time, but pain too. That’s because standard pens are not made with your ergonomic well-being in mind. In fact, the typical, “run-of-the-mill” ballpoint pen is designed to do one thing and one thing only: write. But as you grip the simple, straight shaft of the average pen, you begin to realize that it takes an increasingly high amount of pressure to keep the pen in your fingers. Indeed, because your fingers are fatiguing, and your fingertips sweating, more and more pressure is needed to continue to write. The problem with this of course, is that for all the pressure you exert on the pen, it exerts an equal amount of force on the bones, ligaments, and tendons of your wrist and forearm. This kind of random pressure can wreak havoc on your joints. In fact, it’s one of the leading causes of Repetitive Stress Injuries (RSIs) and Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs). Luckily, this problem has been recognized by the designers of several leading pen manufacturers. These companies have stepped forward, creating writing utensils made to eliminate pressure points, allowing you to write with ease for hours on end. Introduction The design of hand writing instruments has been based primarily on touch, feel, aesthetics and muscle exertion (Kao, 1977, 2004), and has mostly being...

Visual Journal-Art Analysis

...as the aboriginal symbol for an emu. The first artist I researched, Alec Bakers impression of an emu inspired me to create one similar but with much more colour. However, unlike Alec I used vibrant paint to portray such a lively, colourful character who the story suggests is very active and used to a lot of exercise. I creatively used my fingertips as my technique to create tiny dots in the background of my artwork. From my own knowledge, I know that aboriginals would not have always of had the man made resources that are available now such as paint brushes and would of had to use wood or maybe their own fingertips to create such small detail. The background is filled with small detail like in most aboriginal Art, however I have chosen to smudge some of the dots to give the impression that they are some of the falling leaves in the dreamtime story. I took a risk by using a very different type of media that is not used in any of the aboriginal Art that I have seen to create some of the leaves in my painting. In my opinion it was a successful risk as it makes...

Rhetoric on America's Nuclear Nightmare

...inception, the NRC has pushed nuclear power to the people, but has since let its duty to the public fail the test of moral obligation. Skirting safety investigations and legitimate refitting of old nukes, the NRC and the industry it puppeteers could end up with a nuclear meltdown on its hands. The cost for such inaction may very well include billions of taxpayer dollars in cleanup and aid, and the untold millions of displaced or irradiated civilians. Though Goodell’s article does address the possibility of imminent risk taken by the nuclear industry, he falls short in conveying the sense of urgency that is needed in order to effect change for America’s nuclear industry, ultimately making his article more PAST than CUSP. My analysis and research will fill in the gaps of forensic evidence and touch on the due deliberation by improving upon Goodell’s poor use of rhetorical modes. One of the PAST things that Goodell does is underrepresent former Sen. Pete Domenici as an influential nuclear energy advocate, which does not contribute to a deep understanding of his significance in the one mentioning. In my findings there is certainly enough evidence that can reflect decades of examples that can illustrate what kind of person...

Kinect-Based Gesture Password Recognition

...with each other. Its intuitiveness and naturalness have spawned many applications in exploring large and complex data, computer games, virtual reality, health care, etc. Although the market for hand gesture password is huge, building a robust hand gesture recognition system remains a challenging problem for traditional vision-based approaches, which are greatly limited by the quality of the input from optical sensors. In this paper, we use their gesture in order to login or authenticate to the system. And then we introduce a novel method to create a gesture pattern that act as a password. This hand gesture recognition system performs robustly despite variations in hand orientation, scale or articulation. Moreover, it works well in uncontrolled environments with background clusters. Key words: Password Recognition, Authentication, Gesture password INTRODUCTION The advent of relatively cheap image and depth sensors has spurred research in the field of object tracking and gesture recognition. One of the more popular devices used to do this type of research is Microsoft’s Kinect, which has sensors that capture both rgb and depth data. Using similar data, researchers have developed algorithms that not only identify humans in a scene, but perform full body tracking; they can infer a person’s skeletal structure in real-time, allowing for the recognition and classification of a set of full...

...Introduction to bench marketing If a company is to be successful, it needs to evaluate its performance in a consistent manner. In order to do so, businesses need to set standards for themselves, and measure their processes and performance against recognized, industry leaders or against best practices from other industries, which operate in a similar environment. This is commonly referred to as benchmarking, in management parlance. The benchmarking process is relatively uncomplicated. Some knowledge and a practical dent is all that is needed to make such a process, a success. Therefore, for the benefit of corporate executives, students and the interested general populace; the key steps in the benchmarking process are highlighted below. A Step-by-Step Approach to Benchmarking Following are the steps involved in benchmarking process: (1) Planning: Prior to engaging in benchmarking, it is imperative that corporate stakeholders identify the activities that need to be benchmarked. For instance, the processes that merit such consideration would generally be core activities that have the potential to give the business in question, a competitive edge. Such processes would generally command a high cost, volume or value. For the optimal results of benchmarking to be reaped, the inputs and outputs need to be re-defined; the activities chosen should be measurable and thereby easily comparable, and thus the benchmarking metrics needs to be arrived at. Prior to engaging in the...

Improving User Authentication on Mobile Devices:

...Improving user authentication on mobile devices: A Touchscreen Graphical Password Summary By: Quaniesha Hillian December 12, 2013 Abstract We analyze three biometric verification modalities – voice, face and motion – and in addition secret word passage, on a portable gadget, to investigate the relative requests on client time, exertion, blunder and errand interruption. Our research center study furnished perceptions of client movements, techniques, and responses to the validation strategies. Face and voice biometrics conditions were speedier than watchword passage. Talking a Pin was the speediest for biometric specimen entrance, yet fleeting memory review was better in the face check condition. None of the confirmation conditions were recognized exceptionally usable. In conditions that consolidated two biometric entrance routines, the opportunity to get the biometric examples was shorter than if obtained independently yet they were extremely disliked and had high memory assignment blunder rates. These quantitative effects exhibit cognitive and engine contrasts between biometric verification modalities, and brief strategy choices in selecting confirmation. Typing text passwords is challenging when using touchscreens on mobile devices and this is becoming more problematic as mobile usage increases. They designed a new graphical password scheme called Touchscreen Multi-layered Drawing specifically for use with touchscreens. They conducted an exploratory...

...Participant Observation Research 1. Participant observation is one type of data collection method typically done in the qualitative research paradigm. It is a widely used methodology in many disciplines, particularly cultural anthropology, less so in sociology, communication studies, human geography and social psychology. Its aim is to gain a close and intimate familiarity with a given group of individuals (such as a religious, occupational, sub cultural group, or a particular community) and their practices through an intensive involvement with people in their cultural environment, usually over an extended period of time. The method originated in the field research of social anthropologists, especially Bronisław Malinowski in Britain, the students of Franz Boas in the United States, and in the later urban research of the Chicago School of sociology. 2. Direct observation, also known as observational study, is a method of collecting evaluative information in which the evaluator watches the subject in his or her usual environment without altering that environment. Direct observation is used when other data collection procedures, such as surveys, questionnaires, etc., are not effective; when the goal is to evaluate an ongoing behavior process, event, or situation; or when there are physical outcomes that can be readily seen. Direct observation can be overt, when the subject and individuals in the environment know the purpose of the observation, or covert, when the subject and individuals...

How Has the Development of Fingerprinting Techniques in Forensics Increased the Succession Rate of Convicting Criminals from the Period of 1890-1950?

...How has the development of fingerprinting techniques in forensics increased the succession rate of convicting criminals from the period of 1890-1950? Introduction The birth of forensic science within the use of the police force revolutionised how crime investigations were conducted, via the work of the forensic scientists, or also known as ‘forensic officers’. This work would consist of collecting evidence from a crime scene such as looking for fingerprints on either a suspected murder weapon used by the murder or on a touchable surface which is in the crime scene where the suspect laid their hand on. Furthermore this collectivisation of evidence from the crime scene could mean collecting; foreign fibres (unusual fibres that seem to look like that they do not belong their i.e. due to their different colour, type of fabric or thickness of the fibre.); retrieving bullets and firearms form the crime scene and any possible DNA samples that can be collected in the crime scene such as blood spatter on the walls of a room, where in this case the crime was committed. This evidence would then be sent to be analysed by more forensic scientists in different subdivisions to help led a path to a final suspect, thus leading the police to a quick and successful conviction of a criminal and bring justice to their crimes. Overall this revolution of the police force saw the birth of a new era of fighting crime throughout the whole of the country, as well as throughout the rest of the...

...Turmeric: The Ayurvedic Spice of Life ©2003 Prashanti de Jager Great Healers, in one form or another they are sought out by all of us. Somewhere inside we all seek balanced happy lives and so we seek that which will grant us health and joy. This article is about Turmeric, one of the planet’s great healers. This healer is not obscured in some esoterica and not distanced by a cosmic price tag. As usual with great healers, it is very close to you and readily accessible, in fact, it is probably in your house right now, though it may be hard to believe that such a common item is one of the world’s best all around herbs. The core of its worldwide ubiquity is found while walking through the bazaars of India where you are bound to find a masala wallah, a spice seller, with mounds of Turmeric that he is selling by the kilo. It is a great sight in the midst of mountains of clove buds, black pepper fruits, coriander seeds, cinnamon bark, cardamom pods and all these marvelous colorful spices that the world has loved since Silk Road days. Ayurveda is as full of commonsense as it is humming of the mystical and so, especially since it is an oral tradition, it is with the common people of India, like the spice sellers and the village mothers, that many traditions of herbal knowledge are learned and passed from elder to child for countless generations. In this way the ability of Turmeric is proven and its legacy grows. I have learned so much about ‘common’ herbs from ‘common’ people that I could...
