Abner Snopes vs Daniel Plainview
Speaking in general features, to what it concerns to me, in both histories the desire of the man is reflected for be imposed over others and specifically speaking about pride. In case of the men, the pride is something about is spoken very much in the masculine culture. For which one cannot receive help for anybody, to avoid demonstrate weakness and much less be humiliate. In a group of men, the man tends to avoid comments that could decipher weak points on him. It might be said that it would be a mechanism of defense in the masculine kind.
As Abner Snopes, never demonstrated any weakness to other persons with whom it supported some conversation. Snopes was a man of few words and much less expressing feelings. The only feeling that he was demonstrating was hatred towards the others, even with his family it was like that. He was trying to teach to his son of an orthodox form ´how life might be for him and how to take care of himself of others. It could not trust of anybody in this life. Abner never treats for seeing the reasonable side of the things, for which he is never afraid for the consequences that might cause his problems to him and his family.
Plainview on another part was a man always in looking for something every time better, but it tries to acquire it to any cost. His pride does not leave it to see towards other opportunities of the life and only centers in what is in front of him. He has an obsession for the oil and this would bring much fortune to his life.
Plainview was very happy for his "son", it was pleasing to him be with him and also he saw him like a partner of his future company. He had not trust in anybody as Snopes, he only wants to be successful in life and nobody else he want to be it. He did not want to share his vision for being rich and decides to monopolize his petroleum wells.
Daniel together with his pride was what would take it to the misfortune for taking the life of two persons and partly for hatred on Eli Sunday. It was too many Daniel's ambition that decided to do aside his own son away from him and not being able to see the reality of the things. Even it was managing to carry out the offers of his sellers to acquire the area and extract the profit. Plainview with the time started becoming more closed to others to the point of expulsing his son from his house and remain alone with his fortune.
A curious thing is that as Snopes, Plainview also had an accident with his leg. The two had a masculine child as dependent. And such level of distrust on the part of the two was what would not leave them to live through a full life of tranquility. Always there would have to be something in the way of them that it was making them change their course of life every moment.
In my point of view, I think that Abner Snopes was more closed than Daniel Plainview. Daniel had more vision of what he wanted in his life, though it did not have certain measure on acquiring it. And in spite his way of being Plainview had feelings for his son, unlike Snopes that the only thing it matters for him was his own ideals without bearing in mind the opinion of the others.
