...classifying people into groups that have some set of similar characteristics, resulting in the ability to be studied and targeted. The most basic method is to segment by simple demographics such as age, income, or marital status. The goal is to identify relatively homogeneous groups with similar behavior that will assist in customizing the message and/or offer for each segment. Some companies target only one macro group, such as the AARP attracting anyone 50 years old or older. Others have much more sophisticated segmentation schemes, using dozens, or even hundreds of variables. The advent of accessible computer technology, the development of new statistical methods, and the availability of US Census data have all contributed to a whole new industry specializing in multi-tiered consumer segmentation. Add to this the standardization of geographic definitions and you now have a powerful basket of measurable variables that can help segment the population in a very detailed fashion. Psychographics | To further target your marketing efforts, you should have a method to not only determinewho is or will buy your product, but identify what makes them want to buy as well. Psychographic segmentation is a powerful method to delineate consumers based on their personalities, values, attitudes, interests, and/or lifestyles - - that is, you are identifying and measuring those attributes (behavioral, economic and interpersonal) that drive consumer behavior. As part of our underlying objective...

...SOAP INDUSTRY: DOVE (ANALYSIS) SOAP INDUSTRY ANALYSIS ABSTRACT The origins of personal cleanliness date back to prehistoric times. Since water is essential for life, the earliest people lived near water and knew something about its cleansing properties - at least that it rinsed mud off their hands. A soap-like material found in clay cylinders during the excavation of ancient Babylon is evidence that soap making was known as early as 2800 B.C. Inscriptions on the cylinders say that fats were boiled with ashes, which is a method of making soap, but do not refer to the purpose of the "soap." Such materials were later used as hair styling aids. Soap got its name, according to an ancient Roman legend, from Mount Sapo, where animals were sacrificed. Rain washed a mixture of melted animal fat, or tallow, and wood ashes down into the clay soil along the Tiber River. Women found that this clay mixture made their wash cleaner with much less effort. Some of the early instances of commercial manufacturing of soap are: In Britain references began to appear in the literature from about 1000AD, and in 1192 the monk Richard of Devizes referred to the number of soap makers in Bristol and the unpleasant smells which their activities produced A century later soap making was reported in Coventry. Other early centers of production included York and Hull. In London a 15th century "sopehouse" was reported in Bishopsgate, with other sites at Cheapside, where there existed...

...LECTURER IN CHARGE: MR. OLATUNJI O.D. FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR SETUP OF A SOAP INDUSTRY INTRODUCTION The proposal on the establishment of a soap industry is based on the survey made by FAJUYAGBE TEMILOLA JOKE. The business will be a partnership business between two people (FAJUYAGBE TEMILOLA JOKE and NDDC). From the research that was carried out, it was discovered that Soap is one of the most commonly used chemical products in everyday endeavours. It has been produced in different forms: liquid, powder and bar; different colours, different sizes, different textures, different quality; so as to meet with the increasing demand for soap in Nigeria in particular and the world at large. Some soaps are mild and gentle on the skin but tough on germs (medicated soaps), some are tough on stains and harsh to the skin (particularly detergents) while some are gentle on the skin (toilet soap, liquid detergent etc.). Homes, Industries, Offices, Hospitals, Hotels, e.t.c all use soap on a daily basis. Soap is very essential in Medicine and the Pharmaceuticals where purity and cleanliness is very important. This has made the soap industry a lucrative industry with maximum profitability and minimal risk management. With the increasing demand for soap, there is a need for many industries to be open so as to reduce importation of a product that can be produced without much machineries and huge finance. With as little as N20,000.00, a soap business can be established. The venture will help in providence...

...EXTRACT AS AN ADDITIVE IN MAKING DISHWASHING SOAP A THESIS Submitted to the Faculty Ilocos Norte National High School Engineering and Science Education Program (ESEP) In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements in Research I ABIGAIL RIO C. ACOBA IX – SSC RUTHERFORD CHAPTER 1 THE PROBLEM: RATIONALE & BACKGROUND Background of the Study Soap is now considered as a regular need for almost all of the living human population across the world, mainly as softening agent and as a product for other personal hygiene purposes, wherein some are proven to be expensive and less effective. One of its kinds is dishwashing soap which we use in washing the dishes in removing the tough stains and grease that is all over the common kitchen tools we use in our everyday lives. It is a great help to minimize the time of removing those tough stains and grease on our kitchen tools. Buying and using the wrong dishwashing soap could put your family’s safety to danger. Your food could pick up a part of the residue that the dishwashing soap left and could cause food poisoning especially because most products contain chlorine in a dry form that is highly concentrated. It could also cause you a lot of skin damages such as unexpected whitening, rashes, and dry skin problems. Putting all of these aside, the question in everyone’s mind is, “What can be a lot safer, cheaper, and more effective ingredient in making and producing dishwashing soap for every one’s daily consumption. ...in my neighborhood I didn’t get a chance to see Zest commercial until around Dec.1963. (Soap and other detergents. except specialty cleaners, 2012). I happen to see the commercial of Zest on TV on a U.S. Air Force Base stationed in Glasgow, Montana and I bought into that commercial and purchased a bar of Zest soap. However they should have had a warning label attached stating: WARNING: Due to chemical composition of this product, it may not be suitable for all users, may cause skin irritation. Recommendations to use, while taking a shower/bath and if after a couple of days, you happen to notice any changes in the outer layer of the skin of the body, for instance, red spots appears or you get itchy all over, we recommend to cease using Zest and consult your own physician. My doctor recommended that I cease using Zest and use Dial a milder soap and I have been using Dial every since. Zest lost me as a customer after that incident One thing that I noticed right away about Dial is, that it doesn’t have a label on it either, warning the user(s) that it may be harmful to humans and should be used with caution. The Zest’s commercials targeted the young active people however, it left that warning label out of the commercial, reflecting harm on some of it buyers and I happened to be one of those young, active, people living my life in the Air Force in Glasgow, Montana. (P & G Loses Zest, but Soap Leaves Behind Legacy 2011, Jan. 10). I like the commercial and the product however my...

...achieving the high aims and goals the company has communicated publically and internally. Despite the criticisms, Unilever has been at the forefront of its industry to initiate processes and create transparency in in its operations, especially regarding the environment. Even in its infancy, Unilever had difficulty balancing ideals with business goals. Unilever's founding companies produced products made of oils and fats, principally soap and margarine. At the beginning of the 20th century their expansion nearly outstripped the supply of raw materials. In an effort to reduce increasing costs due to World War I and growing limitations on supplies, former business rivals join forces, at first in the form of trade associations. These companies set up negotiations intending to prevent others from producing the same types of products but instead they merge to create Unilever. After struggling through the Great Depression and World War II, one of the main products companies were trying to develop was detergent. Soaps are made of materials found in nature and are break down naturally in the environment. A big drawback from using soap is that the minerals in water react with those in the soap, leaving an insoluble film or can tint clothes gray. Detergents are synthetic and were developed during World War II when oils to make soap were scarce. Each geographic area required a different kind of product depending on the way consumers washed their clothes and the type of water available...

...growth quarter after quarter. Today, both rural and urban markets have an equal share in the company’s total sales. And, rural markets are growing at a faster clip than urban India. This explains the company’s revenue growth of 18 per cent in FY12, with nine per cent underlying volume growth. HUL says this growth is not only broad-based but also ahead of the market. In the fourth quarter, the company’s domestic business grew by 20 per cent while net profit grew by 21 per cent. Though the cost push has not abated entirely, HUL has expanded margins by 170 basis points in Q4. In the third quarter, the assumption was that HUL would not be able to sustain 21 per cent growth levels in the soaps and detergents segment, but the category has grown by a stellar 28 per cent in Q4, way ahead of the industry. The company claims after the relaunch of key brands, double-digit growth has sustained. The management believes that while the category will continue to grow, some of it may come off this year as a lot of the growth is due to pricing. Compared to the 14 per...

Soap is a salt of a compound as a fatty acid. A soap molecule consist of a long hydrocarbon chain(composed of hydrogens and carbons) with a carboxylic acid group on one end which is ionic bonded to a metal ion, usually in sodium and potassium. Detergents are structurally similar to soaps, but differ in water-soluble portion. In this experiment we had to prepare soap and compare its properties to that of a synthetic detergent. We also had to compare the relative cleansing ability and costs of soap and some detergents. We were using saponification which date back to 600 BC. There were two different parts for this experiment that requires us to let the making of the soap.
