Even sports in ancient Greece were based on malicious warrior sports like chariot racing, wrestling, and boxing (Coakley, 2009). Death matches were a regular with the Mayans and Aztecs. During the medieval times tournaments were created for war training and often the end result was death. Extreme violence was common in sports the same way it is common in today’s sports world. This quote by Lynn Jamieson, associate professor at Indiana University describes the acceptance of violence in sports: "Sport tends to reflect society, and we live in a violent era," she said. "We have a violent society where people use violence to solve problems instead of using other means." Eric Dunning (1999) notes that violence still exists in the modern day sports because their goal is to “create tension rather than relieve or discharge it.” Aggression and violence are often confused as being the same thing. Aggression is “an intentional behavior aimed at causing either physical or psychological pain” (Lee, 2009, p. 78). Violence is “the use of excessive physical force, which causes or has obvious potential to cause harm or destruction” (Coakley, 2009, p. 196). Actors and actresses would sing romantic songs in the beautiful snow filled Alps or gorgeous green and lush fields, with trees in the background that I had only learned about in school. Switzerland has environmental issues such as some acid rain, air pollution from vehicle emissions, water pollution from fertilizers, and loss of biodiversity (CIA World factbook1). It is something I will most likely not worry about though. However, avalanche, landslides, and flash floods could be something that I may study prior to leaving to avoid it. I will be able to use my credit card as usual in the country, as long as I notify my bank in advance. This will take hassle out of carrying cash and worrying about the latest currency exchange rate or thieves. Safety and travelling systems are rated A, which means strict rules and regulations. For ex, travelling through highways requires a sticker that needs to be purchased prior to travelling (CountryWatch1 ,159). I would like to go for at least a week with my family (husband and son). I would visit in summer, since I get cold easily and will not be able to colorful scenery. We are not leaving the century with the same ideas that got us there. Contrary to the inherited notions of progressive development, whether of the political left or right, the surviving victims of imperial capitalism neither became all alike nor just like us. Contrary to the “despondency theory” of mid-century, the logical and historical precursor of dependency theory, surviving indigenous peoples aim to take cultural responsibility for what has been done to them. Across large parts of northern North America, even hunters and gatherers live, largely by hunting and gathering. The Eskimo are still there, and they are still Eskimo. Around the world the peoples give the lie to received theoretical oppositions between tradition and change, indigenous culture and modernity, townsmen and tribesmen, and other clichés of the received anthropological wisdom.
