...Sociology and its effects in regards to upbringing is something that sociologists have grappled with for a long time now, and through exhaustive efforts, the effects of social location (or nurture) on a person’s development is no longer called into question. With that said, this paper will be about how my social location has affected my outlook. The term “social location” can be defined in a few different ways in regards to perspective. For me personally, the big factors were my schooling and the parenting I received. The first and undoubtedly most imprinting thing on my upbringing was my schooling. From second grade on I was sent to a christian school. I was shaped to never curse, look at things with a christian perspective, have proper etiquette, and many other things. And being in the heart of the bible belt, without even knowing it, my beliefs were also inadvertently being shaped. I was being constructed into a biblical robot who could spout you answers about the gospel as a result of my schooling. My school also was very sheltering. I was given a false perception of many things. I was “brainwashed” of a sort...

...Kelitta Bastos Costa Carney Maley WSG100: Women and Society 03/11/16 Personal Narrative Essay According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary the word identity means “who someone is; the qualities, beliefs, etc., that make a particular person or group different from others”. To me, social location is much like someone’s identity, it defines who a person is. The four main aspects of my social location in which defines me is my gender, sex, culture and class. At first, I did not know that my gender had nothing to do with my biological sex. Before I took this course, the term gender to me implied that someone was either male or female, which I now realize is a very common, but quite ignorant misconception. I was born a female and I identify as that to this day. I have come to realize in only a few short months that my gender and how I perform it is not entirely what some would consider feminine, but it is not masculine either. I like makeup and I am not really athletic. However, I am very strong willed and consider myself a leader; qualities most would describe as masculine. I believe this has a lot to do with my culture and class. I was brought up with the teachings that because I was a female from a lower class family I had to be smart and strong willed in order to make a difference in my community. I am from South America and almost every country there teaches their children that if you are poor the only way you will make it out of the slums is if you fight for yourself, especially...

...To find out why people do what they do scientists look at social location. The book defines, social location as the corners in life that people occupy because of their place in society(pg.3). Examples of social locations could be race, gender, and religion. Each of these three social locations put you in a metaphorical “category”. If you’re religious that must mean you go to a religious ceremony on Sundays and Wednesdays or if you are a male then you have certain roles you must meet in your household such as cutting the grass and work on the cars. Now this doesn’t mean that women can’t cut the grass or six a car, it just means that society groups men into yard work and mechanical work. Social location can be shown in simple things like how...

...My paper is a self-analysis of my own social location and my identity as it is tied to my who I am in regards to race, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, class origin and current class position. This assignment will encourage me to explore how my social location shapes my personal values and my willingness to work with and uphold the human rights of certain client groups. Within writing this paper I will gain an understanding of the constantly evolving role of race, ethnicity and culture in this country and be able to appreciate the complexity of issues related to race, ethnicity, and culture and it implications for their practice. For starters, I’m a bi-sexual low-class Dominican female that knows nothing about my Dominican side. In my eyes I see myself as American-Dominican because I’m a citizen of the United States. I was born in New York and I continue to grow in the State of Connecticut. I would describe my social location as a place of plain suffering but I also see it as a place where within every tear drop there...

...Have you ever wondered where you could find a great happy-hour bar recommended by your closest friends, or how far away you are from the nearest hotel and their website, or the nearest Latin American restaurant while you're on vacation? Location-based services allow you to access this information even when you are miles away from home. These services have a magnitude of uses in social networking, and they are largely accessible through mobile device networks. They use information on the geographical position of a mobile device and enable the user to find the nearest business or service. In addition, the combination of mobile apps and location-based services allows marketers to reach out to their customers to send them more targeted content. Not only do location-based services help the consumer, but they also help advertise the company through social media networks. Stating location is no longer just a form of showing the public what you have seen and where you have been. It is like a free advertisement or commercial for people that view that picture (instagram) or status (Facebook). It has created an extra column in the marketing aspect of the business both for future consumers as well as systems that try to adapt to the users preferences. Applications such as Foursquare, Wikitude, and Yelp are widely used by many people, but the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) community is still in search for the "killer app" that will become so widely used in society that GIS...

...Upkar Varshney Challenges and Business Models for Mobile Location-based Services and Advertising for wireless cellular networks in the U.S. have also enabled location-based functionalities using variations of triangulation, GPS, and cell-ID technologies. In addition to the current and emerging satellite-based systems, such as GPS (U.S.), GLONASS (Russian), GALILEO (EU), and COMPASS (China),30 which will provide wider coverage to benefit location-based services. In some cases locational information can also be derived and utilized from sensors, RFID, Bluetooth, WiMax, and Wireless LANs.7,31,32 These systems can be used standalone or supplement the coverage for location tracking in indoor environments, where satellite coverage is intermittent or inaccurate. The potential for location-based services is evident from powerful and ubiquitous wireless devices that are growing in popularity.8,23 Many surveys predict billions of dollars in revenues for mobile advertising.27 Mobile Network Operators are well positioned to take up a significant percent of this advertising revenue as they negotiate deals with content providers. Recent deals between media companies, advertising agencies and Internet/software industry also demonstrate significant optimism for future growth.4,19 However, there are many challenges that have slowed down the deployment, offering, and wide-scale adoption of location-based services. ...Seven Organizational Approaches Paper HCA/220 January 29, 2012 Seven Organizational Approaches Paper The seven organizational approaches to studying the human body include: body plans and directions, body cavities, quadrants and regions, anatomy and physiology, microscopic-to-macroscopic, body systems, and medical specialty. The body planes and directions approach is the division of the body into sections from front to back, right and left, top and bottom, along with the movement toward or away from the body planes. The Coronal Plane or frontal plane is a vertical plane that divides the body into front and back sections. The front of the body is known as the anterior or ventral section and the back of the body is known as the posterior or dorsal section. The Sagittal Plane is a vertical plane that divides the body into right and left sections. The body directions represent the movement toward or away from the midline. Moving from the side of the body toward the midline is moving in a medial direction. Moving from the midline toward the side of the body is moving in a lateral direction. These types of approaches may be used to take images from a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan. The Transverse Plane is a horizontal plane that divides the body into top and bottom sections. The superior is the upper half of the body and the inferior is the lower half. Moving from the trunk of the body toward the end of a body limb is moving in a distal direction. Moving...

...Seven Organizational Approaches Brittany Hasty HCA/220 June 9th, 2015 Debra Schrager Seven Organizational Approaches The healthy human body can be studied in seven different ways. These ways include the following; body planes and cavities, body cavities, quadrants and regions, anatomy and physiology, microscopic and macroscopic, body systems, and medical specialties. In order for the human body to be considered healthy it must have complete physical, mental, and social well-being. The seven different ways involve approaching the body from different angles by dividing or organizing the body. There are three main planes used to study the body: the coronal, sagittal, and the transverse planes. The coronal plane divides the human body vertically into front and back sections. The front section is the anterior or ventral, and the back section is known as the dorsal or posterior. The sagittal plane is a vertical plane that divides the body into right and left sections. There are two directions used when dividing the body in a sagittal plane- lateral and medial. The lateral direction moves from either side of the body toward the body’s midline. The medial direction moves in the opposite direction, from the body’s midline to either side of the body. The transverse plane is a horizontal plane that divides the body into bottom and top sections. The bottom half is known as the inferior section, while the top half is referred to as the superior section. In order for the human body...

...Introduction The patient, a 20-year-old female ballet dancer, presented with pain in the lateral ankle, particularly in the anterior lateral malleolus and on the calcaneus, and swelling. Patient was examined immediately after the injury occurred. Upon examination, there were positive tests for both the talar tilt test and the anterior drawer test; greater than 10˚ and 8mm respectively compared to the uninjured ankle. Weight bearing on the injured limb was not possible for more than two steps; the patient experience great pain and described the sensation of her ankle “buckling.” A history was taken; the patient described rolling her ankle after landing on a colleague’s foot, and stated that she has had a lateral ankle sprain (Grade I) in the past. Patient was referred for radiographic (x-ray) imaging to rule out fractures and other ankle injuries. Patient was finally diagnosed with a Grade III ATF & CF ankle sprain. After radiographic and arthroscopic imaging was completed, it was determined that the rupture had occurred at the attachment point on the fibula for both ligaments9; an avulsion fracture was not found. Initial treatment performed on the patient consisted of the R.I.C.E. (Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation) method. Patient was wrapped with the foot in as much of a dorsiflexed position as could be tolerated, with u-shaped foam orthotics around both malleoli to help with compression and stability. Patient was informed of her options regarding surgical...

...Anatomy and Physiology 1-1 Explain the importance of studying anatomy and physiology. Studying anatomy and physiology is important because knowing how normal physiology helps you recognize when something goes wrong with the body. 1-2 Define anatomy and physiology, describe the origins of anatomical and physiological terms, and explain the significance of Terminologia Anatomica (International Anatomical Terminology). Anatomy is the study of internal and external body structures. Physiology is the study of how living organisms perform functions. There are four basic building blocks of anatomical and physiological terms. Word roots, prefixes, suffixes, and combining forms. Terminologia Anatomica serves as a worldwide official standard of anatomical vocabulary. So people all over the world can have the same anatomical terms. 1-3 Explain the relationship between anatomy and physiology, and describe various specialties of each discipline. All specific functions are performed by different structures. Meaning the way a body part is made up (anatomy) gives clues on how that body part will function (physiology). Specialties in gross anatomy is surface anatomy, regional anatomy, systemic anatomy, clinical anatomy, and developmental anatomy. Specialties in physiology is cell physiology, organ physiology, systemic physiology and pathological physiology. 1-4 Identify the major levels of organization in organisms, from the simplest to the most complex...
