In addition to the time factor, easily obtainable information allows an individual to avoid difficult obstacles that can often hinder obtaining information. Ordinarily one has to thoroughly search and travel to obtain information, but if its easy to retrieve certain methods can be eliminated. I used to use MySpace to talk to friends, share pictures, promote my music, and share my blogs. These were the main functions that I used MySpace for. MySpace was one of the first big steps that lead other social media networking where it is. Being able to interact with your friends and family in a virtual world is a big success to being able to so be many places at once. Facebook is another social media networking tool that took the world by surprise. With Facebook you are able to share photos, express what is on your mind with your friends and family, write messages between you and others, and stay connected with people all over the world. Facebook came and conquered most of, if not all, social media networking web sites. The main thing that separated Facebook from any other social media web site is that it was made for college students. Little by little it became so popular that everyone wanted to be a part of this network. Businesses really took advantage of the social networking site for advertising. With so many advertising competitors on the network, it is hard for users not to take advantage of the products advertised. Businesses even have commercials that tell to “like” them on Facebook to ensure the attention of the social media users. The latest installment to the social media networking web sites that...

The City of Cleveland also use social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn as their communication channel to reach our stakeholders to provide information as well” ( Johnson, 2013). “Prior to social media being as popular as it is today, communication was provided by regular U.S. mail, email blast and through community newsletters, which was very costly to the City’s budget. Now with communicating through electronic means, information is provided more effectively and by a faster means. Electronic communication is also forwarded to other stakeholders by sending a link in an email that is directly transmitted to other stakeholders to inform them of curtain information as well” (Johnson, 2013). Social Media Tools in E-Commerce Paper

...As more companies effectively use social-media tools for customer care, it also is becoming easier to shift customer-relations resources to the U.S. and feed into the fledgling "homeshoring" trend. Home-based workers have become de rigueur among employers to take advantage of better technology and gain more productivity.  When a Stanley Cup broadcast suddenly went black in late April, many Comcast subscribers simply scooted to Twitter to find out why. It was there -- not on a phone system with multiple options -- they discovered that a lightning storm in Atlanta had caused a power outage during the Philadelphia Flyers-Pittsburgh Penguins hockey playoff game, and that the transmission would be restored soon. "I did a search on Twitter as soon as the game went off the air," says Dave Decker, 31, a Web developer in Pittsburgh who regularly tweets while watching sporting events. "The mystery was resolved in minutes. Before Twitter, it would have been a nightmare trying to find out what happened on the phone." Comcast's deft use of Twitter underscores what is becoming a staple in modern-day customer  service. Increasingly, corporate giants such as Comcast, PepsiCo, JetBlue Airways, Whole Foods Market and others are beefing up direct communications  with customers through social-media tools such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. The popular communications technology has helped companies quickly and inexpensively respond to customer complaints, answer questions and tailor products...

...Beatrice Iheuwa College Writing II Social Media – Rough Draft Fall 2009 Instagram is an online mobile photo sharing application through social networking, this enables users to share videos and pictures and connect them with other social networking platforms like Facebook and twitter. In October 2010 Instagram was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger as a free mobile application and then it rapidly gained attention and grew in popularity with over 100 million active users in April 2012 and over 300 million as of December 2014. The person I chose to interview is my best friend Susan, I have known Susan for about 10 years now and one thing I know about her is that she loves attention and loves taking pictures. I believe Instagram was made for her. Susan first learned about Instagram sometime in 2011 being that Instagram started on October 6th 2010 so she wasn’t too late in signing up like the rest of us. She said the first time she signed up she wasn’t too savvy about the application she just loved the fact that she could take pictures and then filter them however she likes then upload them into the app for the whole world to see. Social Media Reaction Paper

...Reaction Paper Regarding the Flow of Influence and Social Meaning Across Social Media Networks Mahalia Miller Daniel Wiesenthal October 6, 2010 1 Introduction One topic of current interest is how language and sentiments are transmitted in the blogosphere and how individuals affect the sentiments of those in their online sphere of influence. Therefore, the focus of this reaction paper is threefold: (1) to summarize four journal papers related to sentiments and influence, (2) to critique the methods and scope of the journal papers and (3) to brainstorm directions for the term project. 2 2.1 Literature review Java et al. 2006 Java et al. (2006) explore models that determine the blogs with the most influence on the Blogosphere. The paper defines influence as a link from blog a to blog b implies that a influences blog b. They further create an influence graph that weights edges by a function of the amount of links. This paper evaluates various heuristics, such as Pagerank, indegree, and greedy algorithm, to determine which blogs have the most influence on the Blogosphere. The analysis shows that PageRank is rather efficient and converges quickly. The paper also analyzes the effect of splogs, i.e. spam blogs. The results indicate that not removing splogs greatly impacts the accuracy of the influence models. As such, the paper uses some algorithms to identify splogs, and then, and only then, do the heuristics converge to within 70% agreement on the predicted number of influenced...

...Marsha Lovingood Final Position Paper Eng112:On-line Does Social Media/Networking Contribute To Our National Obesity Problem? The creation of the Internet has caused an explosion of new technologies, especially in the last ten years. Social Networking has become more than a way to communicate with others and has crossed the line into an addiction for some people. In my opinion, our culture is being impacted in a harmful way with the amount of time people spend using social networking sites and the internet, it appears to be a factor in the rising obesity problem our nation is experiencing. According to the YouTube video, Oct 23, 2011, , “The Social Media Revolution 2013”, Americans are spending over 15 hours a week or more in some cases, on-line using social networking sites to communicate with family, friends, and acquaintances. This reduces the time we are spending exercising and engaging in physical activities for physical health. We are becoming a society of overweight couch potatoes who spend too much time on-line while healthy lifestyle habits fall by the wayside. However, there are positive impacts on our culture because of the invention of the internet and social media; we are able to keep in contact with those we want to interact with around the clock, any time of day or night. We share music, videos, and pictures with all of our friends through social networking sites and we can post comments and information on our friends’ pages with ease. We can log...
