The free health camp required voluntary and effective people’s participation to render its services. I volunteered in the camp and helped as much as I could. My participation in the health camp was useful enough to aid at least a few people. From managing the crowd to helping the ills, I contributed as much as I could. I assisted the health attendants in the camp which made it easier for them to perform their duties. I volunteered consistently in the week long health camp which was a virtuous contribution towards the betterment of the community. Hence, my service was useful because it helped the organization and the community as a whole.
“Teach this triple truth to all: A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things which renew humanity.” This quote by the Light of Asia, Gautam Buddha, is content with the message for community service. The 42 hours of service at the health camp organized by K.B. Polyclinic was not just an opportunity to help the communal people of Banepa, but also a platform to learn something.
The health camp basically enriched my information on health. I came across many diseases and health related issues in the camp during the service duration. I became quite acquainted with those health hazards and their prevention techniques while helping people during the health camp. I could use my experience from this camp to help people in similar health campaigns in days ahead. Apart from health issues, I learnt to work, coordinate and deal with people of different sorts. Besides, I learned through the community service that greater satisfaction could be gained even by rendering little help.
The health camp was beneficial for the organizer, for the people, and for me as well. The organization conducted the seven days free health camp to provide health services to the people so as to make the community ailment free and resultantly, to create a healthy environment. This health camp earned K.B. Polyclinic good image and trust among the people. The organization also got an opportunity to utilize the helping hands of many youths who volunteered in the campaigns and discharge its services. On the whole, the organization achieved its aim of serving people and creating a healthy community.
For the people, they received quality health services at very affordable price. Sugar patients, in particular, got free medicines along with liberated diagnosis. Along with health services, people also gained awareness regarding various health hazards. Their queries and doubts related to several health issues were clarified. Thus, this health camp and our service acted as a step towards a healthy society.
Since the camp happened to fall during our semester break, I could utilize the leisure time well. I discerned various health issues during the service duration which not only enhanced my information on health but also increased my awareness level. I achieved a feeling of contentment through the community service. Furthermore, I developed a helping attitude along with confidence to interact with people in the community. The community service also helped me excel my moral character.
Being a management student, I mostly got to learn about the management and business ethics. A week long community service at a free health camp developed a cultured attitude in me. It taught me to become a socially responsible person in every goal that I pursue. It provided me an incentive to conduct similar sort of health campaigns or other various programs related to education, cleanliness, food and cloth distribution and other similar programs in other communities as well.
In fact, the community service has induced me to search for communities where people lack basic needs of life such as food, clothing, education, health, etc. and do even the smallest things possible that directly or indirectly benefit the community and its people.
The career that I pursue will help me earn my living and help me financially. But, the community service would facilitate me do something for the community and help me morally. The community service taught me to become a helping hand in both, professional and personal life.
