Summarize the sociological journal article The purpose of this article is the critical analysis of the criminalization of sexual commerce in Canada. The author does this by examining three main points of contention in the publics view. The first being contested terminology that are being misused or used in the wrong context. This terminology is mostly coming down to whether you consider sex workers to be prostituted or victimised (Davies, 2015). The second is the philosophical differences that are observed between the two major political parties of Canada. With the conservatives focusing on violence and victimization, and the liberal party focusing on the human rights aspect. She does an excellent job of critically analyzing the issues at hand with sexual commerce in Canada, but she doesn’t specifically state which side she is on. The weight of her words backs the fact that there are many things that are unfair about the current situation, and many things that needed to be changed. She discussed much about Canada being the free trade market, and draws comparisons to selling sex as the same to anyone selling their time for work (Davies, 2015). The authors study on this would be from the social conflict theory perspective, as this there are many different opinions, and laws that need to be modified in relation to this conflict (Macionis et al, 2016). The author does a great job of presenting all sides to this argument, and backs up her statements with plenty of references. The way in which this article has been wrote appears to not show much biases, and backs up this research as credible. She also explains in details the current legislation within the Canadian Criminal Code that is written about sexual commerce, and breaks down all aspects of the new Bill C-36 The Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act (Davies, 2015). The article is backed up with plenty of evidence, and research from many different groups. She also makes sure that all sides to the argument have strengths in their evidence. Current laws, and public opinions are archaic, and are in desperate need of change. The language is also something that needs to be changed as it is a root cause for many people judging women, and men on their choice to engage in sexual commerce. I also believe the laws are unconstitutional and need to be changed to help the people who work within this unpopular field; however, I do believe more needs to be done to protect women who are being exploited, and trafficked within the sex industry. Although I may not agree with sex workers given career choice. I believe sexual commerce needs to be treated like any other job, these people within the sex trade need to be given safety, and security though the legalization of

In my opinion the vast majority of the other critiques read as though the author was simply trying to find examples for that particular type of critique where there was probably very little intentioned meaning behind it. Some of the meaning behind the game that was analyzed seemed as though it was forced. The biographical critique, however, analyzes the author’s intent behind the game using quotes from the author himself. Although idealists and realists both provide good reasoning, neither argument by itself completely explains the perception of objects. We need to apply both views.
