Following the 1948 Convention of the American Psychological Association, Benjamin Bloom, an American educational psychologist, took control over the development of the goals of the educational process. The goals of the educational process included knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. Ever since, the debate over critical thinking has been a hot one (Schneider, 2002). What is critical thinking? Well throughout the past decade the definition of critical thinking has somewhat changed and there are numerous definitions to define it. The students read the packet of information on energy drink that included infographics, graphs, tables, and articles where the students used critical reading strategies to mark the text to be prepared for the Socratic seminar (See Student Work Sample #2). Students were also able to post comments or reply to other students on a discussion board using the selected statements that were used in class for the Socratic seminar. Next, the students did a lab on energy drinks. They used dialysis tubing filled with water to model cells. They wrote hypothesis statements about what would happen to the model cell if it was submerged in water (control group) compared to a tube submerged in energy drink (experimental group). The students massed each tube before they added it to either water or energy drink. The next day, they removed the tubes, dried them off and re-massed the tubes again.
