In 1842, Joseph Smith, founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, was asked by the editor of the Chicago Democrat, Joseph Wentworth, to summarize the basic principles of the newly founded religion. Included in the response, Smith presented thirteen declarations which have collectively become to be knows as the “Articles of Faith”.
