Sojourner Truth AKA Isabella baumfree was born in swartekill, ulster county New York in 1797. Sojourner truth died November 26, 1883. Sojourner Truth is best known for her extemporaneous speech on racial inequalities, “Aint’t I a woman?” She was sold at an auction with a flock of sheep for $100. She escaped to freedom with her infant daughter, Sophia her other daughter and son stayed behind. She was alive during the Civil War, she helped recruit black troops for the army.
