On November 1, 2007 Meredith Kercher a British college student that was studying abroad Italy was murdered in the home she shared with American student Amanda Knox. On November 2, Knox found Kercher’s body; Kercher was partiality clothed and her throat had been slit. On November 5, a few days later Knox and her befriend Raffaele Sollecito were questioned regarding the murder. At this point the prosecution and police claim that Knox states that she’s at she was at home when Kercher was murdered and implicates the owner of the bar she works at; Patrick Lumumba. Lumumba was later released due to him having an alibi. Knox claims that she was forced to confess and was hit when she did not give police the answers they wanted. The police later arrested Rudy Guede who’s DNA was found in the DNA taken from Kercher.…show more content… Guede was convicted and sentenced to 30 years. His sentence was later reduced to 16 years and he is currently appealing for a new trial. At first the prosecution claimed that this murder was a sex game gone wrong. Prosecution claimed that Knox, Sollecito and Guede forced Kercher to have sex with hem and then proceeded to stab Kercher to death. The prosecution than changes its story and claims that Knox killed Kercher because she did not like each other. During the trial the prosecution uses the alleged confession that Knox made during the trial the defense states that these were coerced statements and clearly false. The murder weapon that was found was a kitchen knife belonging to Sollecito, which had Knox’s fingerprints on it. However, the defense claims that Knox has cooked at Sollecito’s home since he was her boyfriend. The prosecution claims that traces of Kercher’s DNA was found on the knife; however, DNA experts claimed that the evidence on the knife isn’t conclusive.
