I love it here. This beautiful patchwork of greens and mild yellows and pinks, its almost mesmerizing. The small streaks of blue that border some parts, make quiet noises as they ripple. Even thought I should hate it, I don’t. I can’t.
Even though I do miss my life of grandeur and elegance, and my beloved mother and father, this place...its simply splendid. It so peaceful and calming compared to the old city. I was sent here because of the cruel war raging around the cities and towns. It was very sad leaving all of that behind, and my parents were quite concerned, but they had absolutely no reason to be. I spend many of my afternoons with my evacuee family, eating sandwiches and buns, but other afternoons, I spend underneath the large trees, reading books or drawing. If it is warm, I go paddling in the streams with Ben and Laura. They are so much fun. But I shall not bore you with what happened many weeks, or maybe months, ago, I shall tell you the thrilling tale of what happened the other day, and why I am now climbing hurriedly into an old rowing boat with Ben and Laura.
It was a pleasant sunday evening, and my whole evacuee family were settling into a wonderful dinner. We were chatting and laughing when suddenly there was a knock on the door. No one ever knocked on our door unless it was the postman, the police or a lost soul. But there was no reason for any of those people to be knocking at this late hour.
Papa John, as we call him, stood up and walked to the door, he slowly opened the door a crack. A very small man stood outside with a bundle of things in his hand, he wore the dirtiest and smelliest clothing I had ever seen.

“E-excuse me, is the lady Francesca in this house?” He asked, his head hung low, his voice soft and quiet.
I was full of curiosity. I wanted to know who this man was, rbecause I had never seen him before. I rose up from the table. “Um, pardon me Papa John, but yes, I am here,” I said slowly, trying not to sound rude.
Mama Jane pulled my floral dress by the hem and i took it as a hint to sit back down.
“What were you thinking??” she whispered to me, clearly annoyed.”He could be any old ragamuffin, wanting to harm you!” I whispered an apology and sat silently again.
“Well, do come in. But how do we know we can trust you?”
Enquired Papa John.
“You have my word, kind sir.” Said the little man, bowing slightly. ***
We looked after the man, who we quickly found out was called . Mama Jane made him some new clothes, papa took him out hunting a few times. Then one night, I saw Albert downstairs on the phone, He was talking slowly and quietly, but still firmly.
“I want the men here by seven pm tomorrow! They need to be in all black----YES! You fool, of course they need a bag to put over the girls head! And they need rubber soled shoes.
Oh, and fake guns to threaten the family.” His eyes flickered

in my direction, so I retreated into my room again. I thought over what he had said. He was talking about me! When he

had stopped talking and was in his room again, I quietly tiptoed into Laura and Ben’s room. I shook them awake and told them everything I had heard.
“What!” Ben sounded furious.
“We have to run away,” said Laura. “We have a small rowing boat down by the river, and we could take some food from the pantry, oh me and Ben know the priest and his family from the next village, i’m sure they would understand.”
“Sounds like a plan.” Ben and I agreed.
The next morning we all stole some food from the pantry.
We made our bundle and left for the boat a few hours later.
And now I come to the present. We are in the priests small cottage in the next village.
“Thank you so much Father Tim, it was awfully kind of you to help us.” Said Ben.
“Well, thats no problem! My door is always open,” He said.
There was a knock on the door and Father tim opened it revealing Papa John and Mama Jane’s worried faces.

... “As a woman in this day & age, I am in a position to ask a man what can you do for me that I can’t do for myself? I pay my own bills. I take care of my household without the help of any man…or woman for that matter. I am in the position to ask, ‘What can you bring to the table?’” The man looked at her. Clearly he thought that she was referring to money. She quickly corrected his thought & stated, “I am not referring to money. I need something more. I need a man who is striving for excellence in every aspect of life.” He sat back in his chair, folded his arms, & asked her to explain. She said, “I need someone who is striving for excellence mentally because I need conversation & mental stimulation. I don’t need a simple-minded man. Character Sketch: Tobias Eaton

...Character Sketch: Tobias Eaton In Veronica Roth’s Insurgent, Tobias Eaton or “Four”, as he is otherwise referred to, is intelligent, loving and strong. He is intelligent both in love and in warfare. Tobias proves his intelligence when he gives Tris, his girlfriend, an ultimatum. She continuously throws herself into situations where she acts recklessly by risking her life and Tobias will have none of it. He grows so tired of her behaviour that he says to her, “You are a sixteen-year-old girl who doesn’t understand that the value of a sacrifice lies in its necessity, not in throwing your life away! And if you do that again, you and I are done” (260). Tobias is able to identify the signs of someone who can potentially hurt him. He knows that if something awful happens to Tris, he will be affected as well, so in order to prevent himself from possible heartbreak, he warns his girlfriend. The fact that he sees value in life shows his intelligence. Tobias’ actions toward his partner also exhibit that he has an affectionate side. He cares enough about her that he is willing to subtly threaten her if she does not stop trying to destroy herself. Tobias constantly tells Tris how much she means to him and performs a series of romantic gestures. As the two of them get ready for combat, Tris tells Tobias that she is unable to fire a weapon, but all he says back to her is, “Hey. You have done more for this faction than any other person. You...you’re the bravest person I’ve ever met. Stay here. Let...

...-One Walking into school after months of not showing up was like walking into a nightmare. I forgot the smell and the peeling paint and the tiled floor. I forgot how the people talk and walk and stare. But being here again, it comes back in huge explosive waves. I feel sick. All I’ve been feeling lately is sick. I search for my locker. All the numbers are wrong, jumbled and unreadable. Asking would mean something is clearly wrong. I hold onto all my books, my backpack pressing hard on my shoulders. The bell rings and it is louder than I remember. I clench my teeth. The sounds resembles nails on a chalkboard, at least to me it does. Every day for two months I went to history class at this time in Mrs. Waters’ room. And now, I have no idea where it is. “Edith,” a girl’s voice says. I turn. “Yeah,” I say to Clara. Clara is the sweetest person on the planet. For the longest time I thought she was super fake because how can someone be that nice all the time. But she just is. “You have Waters still, right?” “Yeah,” I say. She loops her arm around mine. “I’m glad they didn’t change it.” “Me too,” but I don’t really care. Pulling me around corners and through different hallways we end up in history class. The room looks familiar, but a faraway familiar. Like a dream or déjà vu. She sits in the front row right next to the teacher’s desk. I escape to the back, the corner, right next to the window. Clara looks around and then moves to the seat in front of me. “I get it,” she...

...The King Debate Disadvantages NASA and the Russian Federal Space agency are two of the most successful space agencies in the world. They have been capable of successfully launching rockets into the stratosphere, spending large sums of money to make this fantasy come true. Not criticizing their accomplishments, but I do believe that this is just a waste of time. Let’s start with the United States. The United States has managed to send about 12 American men to the moon, to this day they are still spending money to try and get more people on the moon and explore new planets. Knowing this, America’s economy is getting worse and worse. Taxes are going up and that doesn’t really seem to do anything or make a difference because Americans don’t want to spend more money on taxes. As of October 13th 2013, America’s debt has increased by 328 billion dollars in a single day surpassing 17 trillion dollars for the first time. Now, if America has so much time to somehow acquire money that can send astronauts up to space, it would be very considerate if they thought of using that money to get America out of this 17 trillion dollar predicament. Another point is that, money is better used to help the people of their own country have or live better lives. We know that us humans exist but we don't know if these so called "space creators" exist so why bother. If there are things out there they don't hurt us. We people in your country we are like family and you have to help family because family...

...WGU JET2 Financial Analysis Task 2 By Kat-Johnson | March 2014 * Zoom In * Zoom Out Page  of 9 Competition Bikes Inc. Storyline Operational Analysis 03/10/2014 WGU JET2 Financial Analysis Task 2 Introduction In this task, the budget schedule and proformas as well as the flexible budget were reviewed. Below you will find my analysis and recommended corrective actions as well as how management by exception applies.  Budget Planning Concerns Competition Bikes has a good starting point for a budget but is overall weak and has several budgetary concerns. A few of those items are mentioned for budget planning below.  Advertising & Research Development. Competition Bikes is expecting an increase in sales in year 9 yet they are not investing in any more in advertising or research and development. In year 7 when sales were the highest, Competition Bikes spent $32,760 in advertising. In year 8 when the advertising budget fell to $27,428, so did the sales. Although management is predicting an increase in the market for year 9 and the advertising expense is 2% of projected gross margin, this may be unrealistic. Annual Budget. Quarterly budgets are more efficient for planning, coordinating, evaluating, and controlling costs. The budget for Competition Bikes only shows annually. Sales differ by season with the company so their budget should reflect a similar breakdown. Quarterly budget would be closer to the seasons than just an annual one. Further breakdown...

...666 Stockbridge Road At the end of the deserted cul-de-sac 666 sat much like the other twelve houses that split even and lined on either side of it. Each house looked very much the same: the same beige siding, the same beige shutters, the same ruler edge driveways and even the same porch, perfect for summer evenings. Pushing the heavy gates open, the touch of the iron bars as cold as ice seized up my hand completely. With every breath I drew a misty and chilly exhale followed. Even though I could feel the unevenness of the old cobbled path below me, they were smooth in contrast to the crunching of the old dead leaf that I stepped on. Towards the center the steps were worn smooth but nevertheless covered in dirt however the steps near the sides were rougher and more difficult to make out because overgrown thorns, moss and weed covered them like a blanket. Carrying up on the path the grass carried on forever into the horizon, a dull grey color as if it had lost the will to live and stopped growing altogether. Weeds and dandelions poked out from the cracks in the walkway leading up to the house and the vines formed a twisted maze upon the side of the house reaching their tentacles towards the roof. Ominous, great black clouds circled overhead drawing nearer and nearer to number 666, the demanding winds fed into the clouds screaming for my attention. As the house drew nearer everything around me became quieter and more distant- the trees murmuring couldn’t be heard anymore and...

...train for a priesthood, but his interest was turned to art first by William Morris, his fellow student, and then by Rossetti, who remained the decisive influence on him. He left Oxford without taking a degree in 1856 and settled in London. Rossetti gave him a few informal lessons and he attended life drawing classes for a while, but essentially he was self-taught; his taste was more classical than Rossetti's and his elongated forms owed much to the example of Botticelli. He favoured medieval and mythical (especially Arthurian) subjects and hated such modernists as the Impressionists, describing their subjects as ‘landscape and whores’. His own ideas on painting are summed up as follows: ‘I mean by a picture a beautiful romantic dream, of something that never was, never will be—in a light better than any that ever shone—in a land no-one can define or remember, only desire—and the forms divinely beautiful.’ He had a fairly low-key career until 1877, when he became famous overnight with the showing of eight large paintings at the opening exhibition of the Grosvenor Gallery. Thereafter he acquired huge fame and prestige, not only in Britain, but also on the Continent: he had considerable influence on the French Symbolists, and the ethereally beautiful women who people his paintings, like the more sensuous types of Rossetti, had many imitators at the end of the century. Although he was lauded for his poetic qualities by many critics, some thought his pictures ‘morbid’ and ‘unmanly’. His...
