On July 27, 2015, President Benigno “PNoy” Aquino delivered his sixth and final State of the Nation Address, at Batasan Complex, Quezon City, which is considered as his longest SONA.
For the past five years, the Philippines made a rapid advancement especially with regards to its economy. It seemed that the Philippine economy reacted positively with PNoy’s “Daang Matuwid”. The Philippines now is slowly climbing the global competitiveness rankings thanks to PNoy’s advocacy to good governance reforms.
President Aquino, highlighted his speech with the achievements of his administration including the improved economy and outlook; increased collection of revenues and benefits of his social service programs (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4ps) and PhilHealth), comparing this to the past administration of Macapagal Arroyo including fertilizer fund scam; the NBN-ZTE anomalous deal and "Hello Garci" scandal.
In our opinion, President Aquino rightly delivered a summary of what his administration has done to the country. He had to use previous administration's scandals so that the mistakes it incurred will not be repeated.
The most unexpected part of his SONA was his indirect speech towards Vice President Jejomar Binay the standard-bearer of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) for next year elections and his presidential endorsement.
Our President had dedicated his term on apprehending the corruption in our country. Comparing to the past administration, we can state that the President today had did what he planned regading on seizing the corruption on the three branches of the government, but anybody can point out that the most ‘corrupt’ people that his administration had targeted are those who were on the powerful positions. He popularized the saying “kung walang kurap, walang mahirap.”
In our opinion, President Aquino had a great impact regarding our politics.
