Greek Life vs. Non Greek Life

Greek life is depicted and usually thought of as a giant party; however it can creates a more stable and structured environment for a college student

Measurable differences can be seen in a comparison of the average gpa’s of greek students versus that of non-greek students.

A common misconception is that your paying for your friends and that is all Greek life consists of.

Most people see the media give a perception of Greek Life and convinces everyone tobelieve that everyone acts the same and is stuck up, even though you meet some of the most interesting people through the Greek system

The Student Printz, a regular magazine published by USM students reported nearly a .327 difference in the GPA average of a greek students versus a non-greek students

Most people would guess opposite of the actual results due to an all-party-all-the-time perspective given to greek society by the media

Most greek organizations have a minimum GPA requirement which forces a higher GPA’s from the start. A minium GPA is required just to register for Formal recruitment.

Most fraternities and sororities are required by IFC, Panhellenic,and there nationals to host study hours on a weekly basis to help boost grades further

Weekly study hours are usually set up for brothers, and most pledges are required to attend, so that they can pick up good habits and get over the stress of first semester of freshman year

Students involved in a greek organization have a lower drop out rate than those not involved in one because the organization fosters encouragement and community

Punishment such as individual social privilege being revoke can be handed out for poor academic performance in the classroom

Fraternities and sororities can be and
