Every sound we hear around us is also part of our lives. If we look at the other side of sound, it could be our memory or rewind us back to our childhood time. Sounds come from everywhere, everything, and such as: animals, nature include weather, or objects in the environment. For me, I hear a lot of sounds in my whole life. Some of the sounds I hear can make me think back of my childhood’s memories. Summer season almost approach to us. Sound that most reminds me of the summer are related to insect, weather, and natural.
Surprisingly enough, insect is the most annoying bugs at night in the summer. They are everywhere, from the grass to the trees. One night in summer day, I was sitting outside in the balcony in the dark and couldn’t see things well because I lit the candles. I heard the “buzz, zee” sound around my ear; I knew some kind of bee around me. I was terrified that night because I would look horrible if I got stung. I immediately blew the candle so the bee couldn’t see me. Lucky me, it flew away after a few minutes. Bumble bees are a big nightmare to me. So every time I see bees, I remember that night. It was a scary night but also a memory in summer. Bumble bees are friendly to some people but it is my enemy.
Summer is the season of rain, thunderstorm and lightning. Everyone likes rain because it cleans out all the dirt and pollen from the trees. When I see rain, I remember my six- grade school year in my country. Back then, we wore uniform when we went to school with a white top, blue bottom and a tie. I didn’t know it will rain that day, and I rode a bike to school. When I rode back home, on the way I started to see dark cloud and hear “boom, boom, bang” from thunderstorm, “hu, hu, hu’” from the wind. Also, the moment I started to shiver because I didn’t bring an umbrella. Five minutes later, the pelting rain “xi, xi, xao, xu” pours down on me like someone splash water at me. I was wet like a rat and trying to get home as fast as possible. When I heard the sound of rain, I remember that day in May,2005.

Last but not least, we can’t live without food. Food gives us energy to work, function, and do other things as well. Summer is a good time to barbeque all the good meats. Every will gather around with family and friends. When I think of food, I always think of the “ jizz, jazz, hizz” sound from the barbeque. The raw meat is ready to cook and eaten. The brown meat with some of the burn taste to yummy if dipped with sauce. When the meat are set on the table, I still hear the “ xi, jiz, jiz” sound of meat just came out of the grid. Food is a heaven to me. People can have a barbeque indoor in other season, but best season to have barbeque is summer. I can think of summer when I see people grill the meat. Food taste yummy if people know how to enjoy it.
In conclusion, we can hear everything in our lives even it sound a little. These above paragraphs are the most memorable sounds for me about summer. When I hear those sounds, I remember my experience with it and summer season. Some sounds are really enjoyable but some are scary. Bumble bee remind me of my terrifying night in the summer, raining sound relaxing but also my embarrassing moment, food look tasty but it also good by hearing those sound from the meat. These sounds are often remind me of the summer season.

Physics of Sound

...Physics of sound Sound is a mechanical wave, sequence of waves is resulting from an air pressure disturbance produced by vibration, and sound propagates through the medium such as air or water. During the propagation, sound can be reflected or attenuated by the medium. Humans can hear the sound is because the vibration pass the wave in to our ear, this is called Traveling Longitudinal Waves. The propagation of the sound can be affected by the density and pressure. The temperature determines the speed of sound with in the medium, also the medium itself would affect the propagation such as wind (moving medium) if the medium is moving therefore the wave would propagated further; with the medium don’t have viscosity, sound would be easier to propagate, but if the medium have an negative viscosity such as water the it would affects the motion of the sound wave. On the top is the diagram of the travellingwave the bar above the diagram represent the concentrations of the pressures on the wave, when the curve are compression (the part above the horizontal line) it represent a high pressure; when the curve are rarefaction (the part below the horizontal line) it represent a low pressure and they change from one to another, this pattern repeats indefinitely. Speed of sound = wavelength*Frequency Wavelength (it can be written as λ) is the distance between two consecutive corresponding points of a waveform. Normally the wavelength is about a meter long. The pitch/frequency of the...

Sound Motifs

...In the film, The Limey, there are different sound motifs that are used to help tell the narrative of the story and give the audience cues to how the action or character is related to the sound. Music or sounds help the audience associate and connect certain scenes with their implicit meaning. Wilson’s love for his daughter joined with a regret over lost time that might have, or should have been spent with her, leaves him bound to investigate and avenge her untimely death. “Tell me about Jenny”, is Wilson’s quest to find out what happened to Jenny and his quest causes the narration and action in this film. Wilson’s memories (flashbacks) of Jenny are what keeps him driven in his search for answers. The reoccurring sound motifs in this film are wind chimes, the sounds of the ocean (waves), Wilson’s humming and a unique melody of piano music. These reoccurring sound motifs aid the audience’s understanding of the film’s non chronological temporal order of the story. The film uses different sounds during flashbacks to help add or reveal new information to the viewer about Wilson’s past and the film’s scenes that occur out of the story’s chronological order. The flashbacks are used to create suspense and intrigue in the narration by gradually revealing the entire events of the story. The piano music motif is associated with Wilson’s quest for the truth about Jenny’s death. The piano music is used for different purposes throughout the film. One use of the piano music is...

Sound of Love

...Zihe Zhao EN 101-Composition 1 Joel Gabel July 4th, 2011 Sound of Love Life whispers in our soul and speaks to our heart. Sometimes, we don't have time to listen. Do we sometimes ignore lovely things because our lives are too fast and busy leaving them to wonder whether we really love them? I thought I was a patient man, but I was not until I met a nine year old boy. He let me know that people should pay attention to the small things, even a smile or a sound. I was almost tortured to the point of madness by my neighbors when I arrived in Omaha. I lived in a cheap place so I had to put up with the noise. One of my neighbors is a guy from Nepal, an international college student who only goes to school on Tuesdays and works six days a week for tuition and bills. Ironically he was a delivery man whose car engine sounded like an asthma patient with a megaphone. Every night when I had just fallen asleep in bed, the car would be back with its “cough” to wake me up. Another neighbor was Korean and bought a saxophone; he liked early morning practice the best. Every night I was devoid of sleep from drowsiness by the car, and I was woken up by the saxophone’s weeping sound in the early morning. I often, out of anger from sleep deprivation, wanted to make my way over to speak with them both, but didn’t right away. That car is the Nepalese guy’s career; and the saxophone is the Korean guy’s hobby. How could I let them give up their career and hobby? On behalf of my...

Animal Sounds

...a dog is known to bark guk guk, in Catalan it barks bup bup, while in Albania it barks ham ham. A Japanese dog, in turn, barks wanwan, while its counterpart in England barks bow-wow or woof.

Pigs also have different sounds depending on where you are in the world. A Mandarin Chinese pig goes hu-lu hu-lu, while further up north in Finland it goes roh roh. Next door in Sweden, a pig goes noff noff, while in Wales it goes soch soch. In the English world, a pig goes oink oink.

Bird sounds also vary around the world. In English, a small bird chirps while a medium-sized bird tweets. A larger bird, however, squawks. In Spanish, a bird goes pio pio, while in Korea it will be heard going jek jek. In French? Pit pit. Although animals sound the same the world over, humans, with our many languages, do not. Different human societies simply have different ways of describing similar sounds. Part of it is explained by the speech sounds used in a particular language. Another part by random choice – how a sound was first heard, interpreted and then evolved over thousands of years.

The English language offers especially diverse onomatopoeia. Did you know it’s the only language that confers different sounds to birds of different sizes? Maybe you know a few sounds that could be interesting. If so why don’t you take part and get in touch with us? We will love to get people’s help and expand...

The Sound Machine

...The Sound Machine Analysis: The written version of The Sound Machine is a more valuable study then the film version. Katarina Hiebert ENG1D October 3, 2014 The sound machine, written by beloved author Roald Dahl, and also now a motion picture, is a unique story filled with depth and feeling. As with most literature made into film, there is controversy about losing context and value while created into movie. Stories as so well thought as this one should be presented and studied in a form that benefits the reader or viewer in the largest way possible. The written version of The Sound Machine is a much more valuable study, because the readers can experience Roald Dahl’s creative writing style, it allows the reader to imagine the characters and supernatural sounds, and preserves the author’s original theme of the story. Roald Dahl is an author that has written many well-loved stories. Some of his most popular works are short stories, including The Sound Machine. In the way the story is written, readers are able to feel how enamoured the character Klausner is with the world of sound. The way Dahl writes his dialogue, readers feel convicted and a part of it. For example, when Klausner so vehemently speaks to the doctor, “I believe that there is a whole world of sound is around us all the time that we cannot hear. It is possible that up there in those areas where sounds are so high we can't hear them, there is a new exciting music being made, a music so powerful that it would...

The Sound of Life

...men hammering at the steel- the sole musical evidence of survival." (261-267) in this, Steven Church gives a very illustrative narration of a crowd of people waiting to hear the sound of trapped miners signaling their life from underground. In Church's "Auscultation", the underlying theme is that sound is essential to life. Sound can mean more than words ever could. Steven Church's "Auscultation" is a 4 chamber essay. Personally, I believe that the 4 chambers represent the 4 chambers of the heart. This is relevant due to the topic of the essay; the sound of life. The first chamber sets the tone by describing a mine that collapsed leaving 6 miners trapped in the deathly grasp of the mountain. The second chamber introduces the stethoscope as an essential part of life. The third chamber expresses the importance of the stethoscope, what makes a doctor a doctor, and the different instruments that a doctor has. The fourth and final chamber ends the essay by describing another devastating collapse leaving 9 coal miners trapped by rising water leaving families as well as other miners on edge about the life of their coworker, friend, or loved one. The essay compares a baby's heartbeat to the sound of a sledgehammer hitting metal within the womb of the cave -or stomach. This is because both of those sounds indicate life. Church describes this by musing that the doctors are "...hopelessly dependent on the curl and twisting turns of simple listening technology, the only tool for the...

A Lesson in Sound

...My family is deaf. All my aunts and uncles are deaf. We like to get together and have a good time while making a lot of noise, but it doesn't mean anything to us. My husband is deaf and we had a daughter who was born hearing. We were surprised that she was born hearing. That meant that we had to learn about how sound is interpreted by hearing people. I remember a funny story that I'd like to tell you now. One day, my hearing daughter brought her hearing friends over. They were all sitting in the living room while I was in the kitchen doing dishes and putting them away. My daughter came to me concerned and asked me “Mom, are you okay?” I looked at her confused and said “Yeah, I'm okay.” She said “Well, are you mad?” I said “No, I'm not mad.” She asked “Are you not feeling well?”. I said “No, I feel fine. Why do you ask?” My daughter said that they thought I was mad because I was making loud noises in the kitchen. I said “What do you mean?” She said “You were closing the drawers very hard and putting the dishes away very loudly. My friends said you were angry at me for not helping you clean.” I said “Oh, okay.” The next time she brought her friends over, I told myself “Okay, I got to be careful putting things away.” I cleaned everything very quietly and put everything away carefully, very different from my usual way of doing things in the past. When I was finished doing that, I was exhausted. My daughter came in and asked “Are you okay? You are being very quiet.” I...

Jet Noise, the Sound of Insomnia or Sound of Freedom

...Matthew Ricci Dr Merricks English 102 28 February 2014 Jet noise throughout South Hampton Roads The sound of freedom or not? Society today is filed with noise; there is no escaping it. The combined toll of occupational, recreational, and environmental noise exposure from sounds that is heard daily can possibly pose a serious public health issue. Everyday noise society looks at as “common” can include heavy construction equipment, sirens from emergency vehicles, lawn mowers and a little more noticeable, jet noise. No denying that anyone who has lived near an airport in any number of big cities or spent time in proximity to a military installation has been exposed to and possibly inconvenienced by the loud sounds of jet aircraft. To the locals that have lived and spent time in the Hampton Roads area, jet noise is as common as hearing a fire engine. Anyone living or working near one of the several military bases in the area or the Norfolk International Airport has heard or been affected in some way by jet noise. Jets noise in this part of Virginia is not just a daily occurrence but also a necessary one in order to preserve troop readiness and even society’s way of life. An examination of the state of global insecurity creating much higher operational military requirements since 9/11 and the economic stability our military bases provide reveal the necessity for higher tolerance of jet noise. Military training and readiness are directly proportional to the rise...

Sound Research Paper

...This research paper will cover sound. It will cover what sound is, how sound waves are created, Parts of a sound wave, Ears, Jobs, and the speed of sound. There will be pictures, equations, and illustrations to help explain the research. sound is an amazing gift from God, and it is important to know what it is. Sound is differing waves of pressure, or vibrations, made by molecules moving back and forth. There are 3 main points of sound: Quality, Amplitude, and Frequency and Pitch. Quality is how well it sounds. Amplitude will be addressed later. Frequency is how often a vibration occurs. Frequency is referred to as Hertz (HZ). Pitch is how high or low sounds are, but is not loudness, though that is a part of sound as well. Frequency and pitch go side by side. If the frequency is high, the pitch is high, if the frequency is low, the pitch is low. The volume, or loudness, of sound is measured in decibels. It is named after Alexander Graham Bell, the creator of the telephone. It was in the beginning just bels, and went from 0 bels to 13 bels, but was not precise enough, so decibels were created. Decibels are a tenth of a bel, and ranges from 0 decibels to 130 decibels. The next point of sound is how sound wave are formed, and what the parts of the sound wave are. The...

Film Sound

...Semester Term Paper: Film Sound Katayoun Nawabi University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill On my honor, I have neither given nor received aid in completing this assignment. _____________________________ Katayoun Nawabi In analyzing film, critics constantly gloss over the importance of the use of sound. Those critics that do touch on the function of sound often underestimate its role in the overall impact of the film as a whole. There are those that are of the opinion that there has been little, if any, real contributions made by sound in film. Should sound have been added to film at all? A look back at the history of film, from silent movies to “talkies” to major motion pictures of the 1990s, will help establish the fact that film has not only benefited from the addition of sound, but has only gotten more sophisticated with time. “Reevaluating the role of sound in film history and according it its true importance is not purely a critical or historical enterprise. The future of cinema is at stake. It can be better and livelier if it can learn something valuable from its own past” (Chion, 1994, p. 142). There is no argument that, in cinema, it is the image that will continue to radiate power and spectacle. However, the technological and conceptual advances that have been made over the decades reinforce the fact that it is the role of sound to decorate the image and “show” us what it wants us...
