The ideas of what is called “source confusion” and that our memory is “reconstructive” are the key ideas in this chapter of Mistakes were made (but not by me). However, the fact that these concepts exist in our psyches holds many implications for our everyday lives.

In the world of criminal justice, this causes a few problems. The most obvious being witnesses to a crime. Since memory reconstructs to more or less protect the person, this can cause the memory of a traumatic event to be greatly confused. Unfortunately this can cause a multitude of issues for those in law enforcement. For instance a person might completely forget the face of a criminal or they may even forget the event altogether. This can lead to false accusations, potentially in a criminal lineup, a case taking longer to solve due to missed information, giving the criminal more time to cover up, and …show more content…
For instance when looking back on events both may have self justified version of the story at hand. Both may have had self justified versions of what happened. Take for instance two close friends of mine who will remain nameless. On halloween night one of the friends wanted to go to a corner store to get some soda, however, for one reason or another she need to leave the other behind. The following wednesday I was surprised to find out that they were no longer friends. Upon talking to them one claimed she was left by the side of the road and ditched, whereas the other claimed she simply went to the corner store and returned later to find that the girl she had left behind was no longer there. Already there was a hint of self justification but a week later both of these stories had devolved into just slams of the other until it seemed as if there was only a small grain of truth to their testimonies. The implications of this can cause relationships to fall apart after one small

My Writing Reflection

...ideal, how assignments were written on the papers were confusing. My first assignment in this class was not my best grade and definitely showed my confusion. Without a doubt, that continued to occur in almost every assignment. However, the essays that truly contributed to my newer depth in writing were the Three-Source Synthesis Essay, Research Paper, and this final essay. To begin, I would like to say, the synthesis essay was one of the hardest essays I have ever written. Finding the comparisons between three similar yet completely different articles was not easy. I had spent around 70 hours on this particular essay and even turning it in was nerve wrecking. Yet, this paper helped me improve my writing style greatly by pushing me to actually complete the essay. I had to learn how to find sources using the libraries website. To be truthful, using the libraries website was the most difficult part of finding reliable sources. The second essay that really pushed me was the research paper. I found plenty of sources but had the hardest time arranging them into essay formatting. Another difficult part of this essay that had helped influence my writing style was finding the...

There are areas for improvement in the piece (e.g. carrying through with the author's initially posed question; focusing more critically on Bodi's argument and/or her responses to this author's comments), however, it is offered as a formidable example of how to initially tackle a critically reflective piece by focusing on only one point, argument, (or in this case, sentence). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I found the article written by Sonia Bodi was very informative and interesting. Although many of the ideas she presented I agreed with, there were also a few points that I'd like to argue against. First I would like to answer the question that was proposed in the title of this article: How do we bridge the gap between what we ( professors) teach and what they ( students) do? To fill in that gap, both sides need to work together. Students need to push themselves to expand their knowledge and help themselves become more inquisitive, critical, and reflective. Professors, on the other hand, should push and...

...Literature Search Paper NUR443 September 19, 2011 Professor Dina Faucher Literature Search Paper Numerous studies have been conducted to prove the relationship of shift work and fatigue and the results noted on medication errors. Two articles were chosen using the University Library, a qualitative research study and a quantitative research study from peer reviewed articles through the use of databases such as EBSCOhost, ProQuest, and Gale Powersearch. To research this topic, the query tool utilizing terminology such as shift work, fatigue, and medication errors was used to narrow the search. The intent of this paper is to identify the difference between research study articles versus plain journal articles, the type of nursing journals, and if the article is peer reviewed. EBSCOhost allows one to narrow the search, by selecting the mode as Boolean search, the source type as Academic Journal, the subjects as errors and patient safety, the publication as Journal of Nursing Management, AORN Journal, and Journal of Nursing Education, and finally the database as CINAHL plus with full text reduced the results to 259 articles. The articles are in order from most relevant to least relevant. Effects of working conditions of intravenous medication errors in Japanese hospital, written by Seki and Yamazaki was the most relevant article posted that encompassed the use of a quantitative research method to support the educational content. According to Burns and Grove (2011) “quantitative...

...recent paper posits a new theory of insider trading which may provide some coherence what is now a dog’s breakfast.  For those in investment research, any improved clarity would be a godsend. Sung Hui Kim, a law professor at UCLA, released a paper last month titled “Insider Trading as Private Corruption” which argues that insider trading should be based on a corruption standard rather than the current standard of common law fraud.  Kim posits a new definition of insider trading: “use of an entrusted position for self-regarding gain.”  In her view, insider trading is a form of private corruption, analogous to public corruption. Current confusion In the paper, Kim applies the new standard to existing insider trading cases, including controversial cases which exemplify regulatory overreach.  In SEC v. Dorozhko, for example, the SEC argued that a hacker’s infiltration of a company’s server and his subsequent trading on the extracted financial information violated federal insider trading law.   However, based on precedent, the hacker would not be liable for insider trading because insider trading generally requires the breach of a fiduciary duty.  Nevertheless, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals held that liability could be found—even without a breach of fiduciary duty—as long as the defendant “affirmatively misrepresented himself in order to gain access to material, nonpublic information, which he then used to trade.” In Kim’s view the SEC has benefited from confusion and disagreement...

A State of Confusion

...A State of Confusion Wendy Haugen BUS 415 Douglas Edmunds Tanya Trucker’s lawsuit versus the State of Confusion conveys a paradigm concurrent with the course book regarding Interstate Commerce. Commercial traffic within the states, considered Interstate commerce, will affect commerce between states. The Commerce Clause allows the federal government to regulate the interstate commerce. The statute enacted by the state of Confusion requires all towing trailers and trucks that drive through the state of Confusion to use a B-type truck hitch. Tanya Trucker, a resident of the state of Denial is livid, incandescent with fury, yet she controls herself as she contacts a known law firm, which specializes in this field of commercial law. In a genteel fashion, she has expressed her extreme displeasure in the situation with her attorney, pointing out the additional expense this statute imposes on her business. She intends to file suit against Confusion to overturn the statute. Tanya Truckers lawsuit will occur in the jurisdiction of the Federal District court. Her Attorney and his colleagues research their sources, discovering the statute is void as it violates the supremacy clause; No Preference shall be given by any Regulation of Commerce or Revenue to the Ports of one State over those of another nor shall Vessels bound to, or from, one State, be obliged to enter, clear, or pay duties in another. “Federal jurisdiction based on diversity of citizenship requires...

Nursing Reasearch

...Writers Description This paper discusses therapeutic communication from the point of view of the writer's clinical experiences as a nurse. It discusses the concept of therapeutic communication and how important verbal and nonverbal communication is with patients. The paper presents a case study that the writer was involved in and discusses how therapeutic communication was successful or unsuccessful in this scenario. 1 From the Paper: "Even when the nurse has experience with therapeutic communication, there can still be the problem of a breakdown in that communication. The nurse can have empathy, respect for the person, and use active listening skills, but the problem could still come about. The reason it happens is that the nurse also needs to do critical thinking. That kind of thinking means that that she is always assessing the patient and the situation (McNabb, 2006). Another point is that sometimes it can be very difficult to see things from the perspective of the patient. Bournes and Mitchell (2002, p. 59) state, "health is the way people go on and live what is important to them, moment to moment and day to day". Health for me is very different than it is for a person such as Mrs. A. The only way I can understand her experience is by empathy and through active listening." 2 Sample of Sources Used: 1.
