In the novel, Parable of the Sower, Octavia Butler proves to us that sovereignty is something everyone should obtain; they just have to be bold enough to take initiative when the time is right. Lauren is living in a neighborhood that is walled up and the only way you can step foot outside is with a group of people armed with guns. She knew her community would be left in ruins sooner or later. The government is still standing but has no sufficient meaning in their world anymore. Smiling at his friend foolishness, he got to work. About an hour has passed and Stiles was now awake and was aiding Scott with the shelter.
“ What should we do now”, Stiles asked, weaving a twig with a branch.
“ I don't know, we can do whatever we want”
Stiles still didn't know what to do. He wasn't that much of an adventurous type, considering his dad was the town's sheriff. “ You mean, we can do anything we want”, Stiles replied while rubbing his neck.
Turning his attention back to his friend, he sent him a mischievous smirk. Turing his body to face Stiles he replied, “ Anything Stiles, and I mean anything.”
The two best friends have done nothing but explore their new, maybe, forever home. They were having the time of their life, but Stiles being, well, Stiles, decided that they needed some ground rules. Scott just went along with it for the sack of his sanity.
“ We have to Agree on things before doing anything irresponsible.”

“ We each have a job to do, we can assign them later.”
