One question many Kohelet students will ask themselves is “what is it that I want to do this summer?” For many, the answer is summer camp, or some other type of camp-like activity. However, for those who are interested, the summer is a great opportunity to take part in research! Summer research can be almost anything STEM related that a student is interested in. As many students know Mrs. Weintraub is friendly with many researchers within the scientific community, which makes her a valuable resource for students interested in doing summer research. For instance, one Kohelet student took it upon themself to take part in summer research at a laboratory, helping develop and optimize a protocol, through analyzing how to quantify the results of experiments proving whether or not soy derived skin scaffolding is really better than the current alternative skin grafting materials. …show more content…

Obviously, one does not have to look far within our own school to see that Kohelet students and faculty are closely working together to give students opportunities in scientific research. Not only was this research successful in terms of its educational goals but it also yielded promising results for success on the market. The soy derived skin scaffolding and the protocol that our student has created to utilize it, will hopefully be soon implemented in hospitals, and will provide burn victims (and others in need of skin grafts) with cheaper and better skin graft options. Whether it be in molecular engineering, zoology, or pharmacology, there is almost always an opportunity to take part in
