In order to provide a thorough overview of how I plan to develop and implement the two week unit project, I will discuss each day of the eight day project. My discussions will include some of the questions I will ask to stimulate their curiosity and encourage positive choices. I will also describe some possible activities that may help guide them towards the goals that they wish to accomplish. However, as this project is completely student-driven, I will certainly need to adapt my questioning strategies and change the proposed activities in order to support the actual choices that the students make during the project. Therefore, the following overview provides only an estimated framework for the project. Timing is very flexible. If it take two days longer to complete, that will be fine. If the students finish sooner, we can always add to it.
In the first lesson, the key objectives are for the students to understand what endangered animals are and for them to be motivated to want to help them. The students will watch a brief, funny video clip of the animated movie, Ice Age. The teacher will ask questions, such as, “What animals did you see?” It is anticipated that the students will reply that …show more content…
What do we need to share with others to make them aware that our animals need help? Do we need to know where they live / what they eat / about their habitats etc.?” Students will research the information about their animals using the wealth of resources provided for them to determine what they want to share and delegate roles within their teams. For example, “Who wants to draw pictures, write the words hold the camera etc.?” Students can change roles if they want in order to get a different experience or they can keep the same role throughout the project as long as it is agreed by all team members.
