...My essay is about the space race. I will answer the following questions: What was the rocket that sent a satellite into space originally designed for? What was the space race and what caused it? Who was in the race? Did the US launch the first human into space, the first dog etc.? My essay will focus on the major events of the space race and on answering who won the space race and why. The first missile ever created was the V2 used by the Nazi’s in ww2. It was used to bombard and kill thousands of people. “American and Russian scientists raced to improve the range and accuracy of such missiles.”(history this day) Their goal was to have a missile that can travel a longer distance for the purpose of reaching the other side of the world to deliver...

...The Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union was a turning point in the history of mankind. You may ask why the space race was even considered a race in the first place. There were different reasons as to why these two countries tried to conquer space and to outdo one another. Why wouldn't they make it such a big deal, humanity was looking to step foot on the moon for the first time, that would mark history forever. To begin with, the competition intensified as each side attempted to prove the advantage of its technology. According to blog.yizzam.com/the-space-race-usa-or-ussr-more-competitive/, "Tensions quickly grew among the Cold War rivals and it became evident that the race embodied so much more than having bragging rights." The space race was a competition where both countries tried to develop aerospace capabilities. Thus, they wanted the world to see which was the better and more innovative nation. Beginning in the late 1950s, space would become another dramatic arena for this competition, as each side would prove to have superiority of its technology. At first, for a while people...

...Since the dawn of time humanity has been intrigued by the vastness of space. So many questions have been thought of and so many have yet to be answered. Is there extraterrestrial life in the universe? Is interstellar travel possible? Can humans harness the possible energy sources space has to offer? If the need arises can humanity come together and set aside each other’s differences and find a new planet to call home? After World War Two had ended the United States and Russia began a conflict that lasted almost 30 years. Not until the 1950’s was this conflict called The Cold War (The Space Race and the Cold War). Between the 50’s and 70’s the U.S. and the Soviet Union began what is now known as the great space race (The Space Race and the Cold War). With the increase of advanced technology, humans could now possibly send a man into space and return him home safely. The Soviet Union was the first country to launch a satellite into space on October 4, 1957, and they were also the first country to send a dog into space on November 3rd, 1957 (The Space Race...

...The Race in Space: The U.S. Remains Victorious As the entire world watched from Earth on July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong stepped foot on the moon. He was not only the first human, but the first American in doing so. The race to the moon ended on that day and the United States proclaimed as the victor among their immediate competitor, the Soviet Union. Over the next 4 years, an additional eleven men would leave their footprints in history, all similar Neil, being American. Since then, countries all over the world have attempted to surpass the U.S. for a chance at being first in space exploration and development. None has been a bigger competitor for the U.S. than Russia. Because of the advances the United States has and continues to make, the...

...The Space Race changed history and captivated scientific exploration in the world. It began after World War II in the mid-20th century during the Cold war. The battle was between two great powers in the world, United States and the Soviet Union. During the late 1950s, the competition between the two arose because they wanted to prove which one of them is more capable and superior in technology (military and political-economic system). The Soviet Union launched the first earth satellite Sputnik 1 officially in 1957. After a while, the USSR sent Sputnik 2 which carried a dog named Laika, and it was the first spacecraft to carry animal as it made them the first country who sent a living creature in a spaceship. The U.S. was afraid of communism during the Cold War, as Russia got other people thinking that they might send out nuclear weapons that will somehow destroy the U.S., due to the fact that they sent out Sputnik and the first man into space....

...It whet humanity’s thirst for the unknown in a whole new way. Now, the biggest step after landing a man on the moon is putting one on Mars. The planet is the closest rock possibly capable of sustaining life and has been a huge subject of debate since the 1960s. Mars captivates the imagination, with many books and movies trying to guess or dream about what life there might be like. But before those dreams become reality, there are many advancements in science that need to take place, just as there were in the Space Race. This project will be intense, but like the Space Race, which brought us incredible advancements such as duct tape, GPS, and cell...

...The arms race that started between the United States and the USSR following the end of World War II metamorphosed into a space race that effectively started with the launch of Sputnik in 1957 and ended in 1972 with the cancellation of the Apollo Project at NASA. The launch of Sputnik shocked the United States out of its post-WWII false sense of scientific superiority. American pride and a sense of national security required that the United States not lose the new great frontier regardless of the cost. At the peak of the Space Race, the United States was spending over four percent of the national budget on the effort, exceeding the amount spent on housing and community development. No one questions the impressive achievements of the space program,...

...Writing Assignment #1 – Segmentation and Consumer Research This paper examines research on segmentation and consumer behavior. Consumers can be described using geographic, benefits sought, psychographic, and behavioristic dimensions, yet demographic factors continue to be top of mind predictors or explanations of shopping patterns. Consumer segments are often described using demographic characteristics such as age, gender, race, ethnicity, income & education, and many demographic stereotypes exist about what and how consumers buy. Some stereotypes are close to the behavioral reality of today, while others are not. This paper challenges you to examine current research on segmentation and consumer behavior and shopping data from the MRI Reporter Database. To learn about recent research on segmentation and consumer behavior, particularly the demographics of age, gender or race/ethnicity, access the Business Source Premier database available through the Temple University library website and locate at least two relevant academic articles published since 2000. Relevant academic journals include Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Behavior, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Consumer Marketing, Journal of Consumer Affairs, and Young Consumers. The paper should be 3-4 pages and should use three headings in bold and underlined: Introduction; Findings From Past Research; and Conclusion. ...Alen Sonny Mr. Lewis APUSH Period 5 13 April, 2014 The War between Communism and Democracy for Dominance of Space The Space Race was a war of firsts between the United States of America and the Union Soviet Socialist Republics. But it was also the culmination of the dreams of man for many millennia and the team who worked on the space programs was able to discover what so many of the people that came before and after them could only dream of. It was an endeavor that all of humanity was invested in at the time. It was a testament to the power of the human spirit and it showed how nothing was impossible if we persevered and strived to be better. The space race did not start as one would expect with the respective American and Soviet space agencies. But rather it began with the German V2 missile launches towards the end of World War 2. The V2 missile was designed by Wernher Von Braun a German scientist who had dreamed of traveling to the moon for many years; however this dream had to be secret as it was considered to be treasonous and not helpful to the German cause. Von Braun and many other amateur rocketeers were drafted into the German war machine in order to help build a super weapon and their base was Peenemünde. When the war was nearing its end the Third Reich unleashed its secret weapon, the V2 missile. It could hit anywhere within its target range and there would be no warning. When it hit, it caused scenes of mass destruction. The V2 missiles were to be Hitler’s...
