PART 3

discutir- to argue enfermarse- to get sick enojarse- to get angry ponerse (avergonzado) - to get embarrased portarse- to behave? quejarse- to complain recordar- to remember reírse- to laugh

Ok so heres what I think the paragraph is supposed to mean.

When Julia doesnt answer well, he laughs because hes nervous. When I dont (remember?) the correct response I (get embarassed?).
When we dont turn in our homework on time the professors (get angry?)
When there is an exam all the students (complain?) because they didnt get enough sleep. All of them (laugh) because they say they have a lot of work to do.
Generally, college students are responsible and (behave?) well in class.
The teachers dont like (arguing?) with students about the grades they give them.

PART 13

ok so for 13... a relative has died and in his will hes left various people stuff. the questions are asking "to whom did he leave his furniture/car/truck/new camera/etc." So the assignment is to replace the thing thats being given with the pronoun that corresponds to it.

So for the first one it asks "To whom does he leave his furniture?" The answer is "he left it to ana and ernesto." because its trying to teach you not to be redundant.

So break it down.
A quién le dejó sus muebles? to whom he leaves his furniture?
(AKA To whom does he leave his furniture?)

Le is the indirect object pronoun and is the dead guy. muebles is masculine and is replaced by los as its pronoun. and must always come before the verb acting on it. dejó is the verb ana and ernesto are the recipients of the gift.

Therefore,
Le los dejó a ana y ernesto. should be your answer.

BUT if "le or les" come before "Lo, la, los, las" then the "le or les" becomes "se" (dunno why it just says so on the internet"

So the answer is:
Se los dejó a Ana y Ernesto.
He it left to ana and ernesto (literal

Decision in Paradise Part 1

...this country was not as we had pictured it. Kava appeared to be a mess which could cause problems with branching Lund products. I arrived at the office to meet Alex who would be my boss and mentor but to my surprise the office was also a mess which now raised doubts about how successful this task would be. Alex was a one man show. There was no receptionist only Alex so it was clear that Alex and I would be a two man team, I guess you could say we were short staffed. As Alex was briefing me on the facts about Kava I realized there were numerous problems that would certainly cause problems for us. The population of Kava consisted of 50% of the individuals were under the age of 15 as well as several different languages including English, Spanish and French. Another fact was the economy being mostly petroleum, coffee, cocoa, spices, bananas, tourism, fishing and natural gas which proved there was not much competition in the truck accessory field. This normally would be a great thing but considering that over half the population being under the age of 15 we had to question what kind of need there would be for truck accessories. The main concern to us was that the country of Kava had numerous disaster threats including Tidal waves, tsunami, typhoons, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes etc. These disasters were the main cause of why Kava was so unappealing. Now with all of...

Web Conferencinf Memo

...Research for a new, easy-to-use web conference program Message: On your request I have done some research into various web conferencing programs. Included is a table of the different programs I researched. In my research I came across several very good programs, but as I continued with my research one program stood out above the rest, Adobe Connect 8. When I did my research I was looking at usability, cost, features, and company reliability. Beck (2010) states, “Adobe Connect 8 is easier to use, offers better collaboration, richer audio and video experiences, improved access and extensibility, and increased security and support.” Connect is set up so that web conferencing is easier to setup and connect to. It has optimized screen control and enhanced audio and video controls. According to Info Tech (2011) "on a relative basis, Adobe maintained the highest Info-Tech Value Score of the vendor group." Value score: "Vendors that score high offer more bang for the buck(e.g. features, usability, stability, etc.)than the average vendor, while the inverse is true for those that score lower." (Info Tech, 2011) I recommend that we purchase Adobe Connect for our web conferencing needs. Not only it will it be easy to integrate into our system but it also has applications for eLearning and webinars, making it a great tool to help our people stay on top of the game. An evaluation of three popular web-conferencing programs (Infinite Conferencing©, Adobe® Connect®, and Citrix® GoToMeeting®) has been conducted by my department. Based on my findings, I have requested the use of Infinite Conferencing web-conferencing service to conduct multi-point status meetings. The following points outline my recommendation. 1. Organization requirements Infinite Conferencing accommodates our growing company’s web conferencing needs for both now and in the future. Infinite’s competitive pricing plan will provide the convenient online collaboration our organization needs in a flexible and cost-effective manner (Infinite Conferencing, 2012). Additionally, scheduled, immediate, and missed or delayed conferences can be addressed with Infinite Conferencing’s features (such as, e-mail invites and recording capabilities). ...WFL: Strategic IT Implications Stephan Fenty D03246578 Spring Semester A 2011 Section S The Information Technology (IT) landscape changes at a rapid pace. For businesses, both public and private, this can have a vast impact and can affect whether a company has a sufficient IT business strategy in place to compete, and even survive. The many versions of Moore’s Law that have developed over the years teach us that the speed of technology will double, while the price will be cut by one-half, every 18 months. This rapid pace has forced companies to re-evaluate their IT infrastructure and their related business processes much more often and to look for ways to do things better, faster and cheaper. Reducing costs while increasing revenues is vital in business today and Government agencies are no exception to this rule. With Federal deficit out of control the Government has been forced to limit budgets for its agencies and to put in place accountability measures. The Company we will analyze in this paper is a Federal agency called the Western Federal Lands Highway Division (WFL), a child agency of the Federal Highway Administration. We will look at a number of technologies with the potential of reducing business costs while increasing productivity, and which may result in a flattening of the organization hierarchy. Forefront in all this is Telecommuting and its related technologies such as Teleconferencing, VPN, VoIP, and Cloud Computing. We will also analyze...

...and gave up communicating in Spanish quickly. Her parents determined that their children would only speak, read, and write English to fit into what they called the “Anglo Society” (Barrientos, 2011). In her younger years, Tanya herself believed that if she fit in with this society, she could escape the Spanish stereotypes. At sixteen, Tanya’s father decided to send her to Mexico to help her see that being called Mexican was not an insult but more of an honor. Tanya was reluctant to go, but when she did, she found out that she loved the environment and culture. Sending her to Mexico gave her a new sense of pride that she didn't exactly know how to sustain. The author opens the essay registering for a Spanish class for the sixth time. According to Tanya in the wake of expressing her last name, she naturally heard that snippet of delay from the other man on the telephone. She reveals how she feels when people see her or hear her last name, they automatically expect her to speak Spanish. Tanya and her family came to the United States in 1963. Immediately at the age of three both of her parents decided that their children would defy the odds of their Guatemalan culture and fit into the American society entirely. They communicated to them in English and spoke Spanish only to each other. Barrientos wanted to resist the generalizations being set on Latin individuals while in the meantime trusting them herself. Tanya claims "[To her], speaking Spanish translated into being poor (Barrientos...

Speak Spanish At Home Analysis

...I love speaking Spanish at home it makes me feel connected to my roots. Knowing that when i get home my mom would be there and she would talk to me in Spanish is a good feeling that i get every time i had a long day at school. I Am free to speak any language at home but I feel more connected speaking Spanish because it part of my culture to speak Spanish and also I don’t have an option to speak to my mom, because she only speak English, But I'm glad I do speak in Spanish at home. Usually at school not everyone speaks Spanish so it makes more sense to speak it more at home. I had to move to the Unite States when I was only 7 years old. It sad because I really don’t remember most of the things that I did in Mexico because I was so young. That why I feel that the only thing that I have from Mexico is a few memories and of course my language that I love to speak when I get a chance. It makes me feel connected with other people that speak the same language as me. Usually at work there are a few consumers that don’t speak English, it makes me feel happy because I’m able to understand what they want when they ask me in Spanish. at work I speak mostly Spanish to my co-workers because we share the same language that we are able to...

As Frijoleros Border Analysis

...Self-Identifications vs. Ascribed Labels, Gendered Identities and Machismo. In Gloria Anzaldúa Borderlands/La Frontera, Anzaldúa builds on how Chicano Spanish is a border tongue and writes, “ [...] for people who cannot entirely identify with either standard (formal, Castilian) Spanish nor standard English, what resource is left to them but to create their own language? A language which they can connect their identity too, one capable of communicating the realities and values true to themselves -- a language with terms that are neither español ni inglés, but both. [...] because we are complex, heterogeneous people, we speak many languages.” (Anzaldúa 77) Here, Anzaldúa gets at the manifest of Language use in Chicano culture and elaborates on the various types of languages they speak such as working class Spanish, Tex-Mex Spanish, Pachuco Spanish and much more. Language itself is “ethnic marker” on the basis of cultural differences and Anzaldúa makes notice of how this culture particularly is unique in the case of their many complex tongues. Saying all Spanish is the same would create chaos, as we can see in Borderlands even native tongue from one culture can have significant differences, you can just imagine the variety of sorts of Spanish from all around the world such as contrasts between Spain Spanish to Dominican Spanish, to Guatemalan Spanish. Although they may have there similarities clumping them all together the would strip away cultural identity. Cultural identity or in other...

Hispanic American Diversity

...Mexicans are proud of their country, culture and lifestyle and try to preserve it as much as possible even when they are living anywhere other than Mexico. Out of the 26.4 million Hispanics that live in America, 64% of them are Mexican Americans (Thinkquest.org). The Mexican American culture is a mixture of the Mexican culture and the American culture and often causes them to stand out. The primary influence comes from Spain while the secondary influence comes from America. Mexican Americans have strong ties to their families loving each other and taking care of each other. Honor within the family connects all the members together and loyalty without question is expected. They work hard, strive to live in the same house together or in houses near each other. They also have a good temperment (Kwintessential.co.uk). Depending on the generation their first language is either Spanish or it's English. There are some Mexican Americans who have never learned English, however, they have relatives that known both languages. The religious beliefs of Mexican Americans is very strong and many of their...

Se Habla Espanol Summary and Response

...Tanya Maria Barrientos expresses her struggle of being a pure Latina who doesn’t speak Spanish. Being born in Guatemala, a Spanish speaking country, she and her family moved to the United States of America at three years old. (Barrientos, 2011) now living in Texas her parents made the decision that their children would cease speaking Spanish only to speak, read, and write English molding them into America’s Anglo culture. Barrientos set out to defy the stereotypes being placed on brown people while at the same time believing them herself. She stated “To me, speaking Spanish translated into being poor. It meant waiting tables and cleaning hotel rooms.” (Barrientos) Not being seen as Mexican was a compliment in her eyes while not speaking Spanish equated to being white. Clearly she was not proud of her heritage and at the age of 16 in attempt to reverse the disdain for her culture Barrientos was sent to Mexico for the summer by her father. To her surprise pride emerged but created a new dilemma. How can you be a proud Latina and not speak Spanish? She set out to learn it. After taking several Spanish classes she continued to feel laughable around native Spanish speakers. Not only did she struggle with the language but with the fact that she was now frowned upon as a Spanish woman who can’t speak the language. Barrientos eventually learned to speak Spanish and now proudly calls herself “Spanish Challenged and pura Latina.” (Barrientos) The purpose of the descriptive essay “Se...

Gloria Anzaldua's Essay How To Tame A Wild Tongue

...“How do you tame a wild tongue?” Gloria Anzaldua asks. Today, we live in a society where we are stripped and torn apart by the way we act and where we come from. In the essay “How to Tame a Wild Tongue”, Anzaldua makes it known to us that the different languages and the various ways we speak is something that separates us from each other. Anzaldua chooses to focus this topic on the Spanish culture and uses her personal experience to further dive into the struggle of growing up in a place where speaking Spanish was not accepted. Early in the essay, she mentions how at a young age, she was mistreated for speaking Spanish in the classroom and was told to “go back to Mexico where [you] belong”. Because of the culture she grew up in and the language...
