This source gives background information about suit therapy and how it is an effective intervention for children with cerebral palsy. Alagesan and Shetty’s article focuses on how this alternative therapy is used to improve gross motor movement in children who have cerebral palsy. In the study, thirty randomly chosen children, ages four to twelve years old, were chosen to study the effects suit therapy has on gross motor movement. This source, written by Bailes, Greve, and Schmitt, gives more information on how suit therapy is used: it is very specific. It describes how suit therapy was used as an intervention for two children diagnosed with spastic diplegia. This source differed from other sources because it was measuring very specific outcomes. These outcomes were “...gait, functional skills, caregiver assistance, and gross motor ability in children with cerebral palsy” (Bailes, Greve, & Schmitt, 2010). This source is credible because it was published in an accredited journal, Pediatric Physical Therapy. This means it was peer reviewed, which makes it an academically credible source. This source is also relevant because it was published relatively recently. The article does not contain bias: the authors simply researched and recorded the statistical effects suit therapy had on two children. This particular source is useful because it gives a specific treatment plan in which suit therapy was utilized. This information has been difficult to find in other sources, so this source is valuable to our research. It is also useful because it contains observations of the case study from an Occupational Therapy perspective, which has also been difficult to find in our search. This study was conducted at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Physical Therapy Department carried out this experiment. Goal of this study was to test the effectiveness of intense physical therapy intervention on children with cerebral palsy. 17 children were chosen for this study. They wanted to see if intense physical therapy could help gross motor and community walking in children with cerebral palsy. There is no bias in this article. There is no bias because this article is just a report on the study. Other occupational therapist and parents would benefit from this article.
