Should I Take Juanita Pope?

1) Juanita fits the definition of children “at risk” because she was not brought up in a good family home. Her mother held her back from school and never motivated her. She never sent her to pre-school and Juanita did not attend kindergarten until she was 6 years and 9 months old. I do not think that Juanita was born or had a disability. However, I do think that she is very unmotivated and will continue to be this way until she gets the help that she needs, and maybe special programs at school is not enough support. 2) I see that some requirements were made from the IDEA by Juanita’s school system. They offered Juanita help from different types of programs at the school. They did not see how Juanita was or should be labeled in the “special education” program. She has very low IQ scores; however the evaluating committee determined that Juanita was ineligible for any special services because of her aptitude and achievement scores. Her scores indicated that she made improvement and did not need those classes anymore. Even though Juanita was still doing poorly in school she was offered to another programs with helped her get tutored in the classes she was doing bad in. 3) I think that Juanita should have been taught by a special education teacher. It was clear that she has no motivation and does not care about school at all. Juanita had a horrible home life that has affected her drastically. She appears to have problems are should be placed where she has full attention on her. General and special educators were collaborating in manors that appeared to be unprofessional. General teachers would constantly complain about Juanita behaviors and poor comprehension skills but sometimes did not bring it up with the special educators. Some general
