...On December 30th I saw a performance of Spongebob the musical at the Palace Theatre in Times Square. This was a wonderful experience, and the production of the musical was absolutely wonderful. The book was well written with a complex plot and characters, and the music was written and performed very well. One small qualm I had was that because almost every song was written by a different artist, it felt very disjointed at times due to the fact that there were not many common motifs in the songs. However, it is not as bad as it could have been, and for that I am grateful. One technical element that I believe was used effectively is the costumes and how they weren’t just copies of the cartoon designs, rather they were more personified versions with the same general aesthetic of the cartoon....

...SHARED THOUGHTS………….19.05.2012. =================================== As told by Robin Sharma. Richard Carrion, the CEO of Puerto Rico's top Bank, once shared a line with me that I'll never forget : " Robin, Nothing Fails like Success." Powerful Thought. You, as well as your organization, are most vulnerable when you are most successful. Success actually breeds complacency, inefficiency and - worst of all - arrogance. When people and businesses get really successful, they often fall in love with themselves. They stop innovating, working hard, taking risks and begin to rest on their laurels. They go on the defensive, spending their energy protecting their success rather than staying true to the very things that got them to the top. Whenever I share this point with a roomful of CEOs, every single one of them nods in agreement. Please let me give you a real world example from my own life. This past weekend, I took my kids to our favorite Italian restaurant. The food is incredible there. The best bresaola outside of Italy. Heavenly Pasta. Super foamy lattes that make me want to give up my job and become a barista. But the service at this place is bad. Bad, Bad, Bad ( like it is at most places ). why? Because this place is always full. And because they are doing so well, they have taken the lines out front for granted. And guess what? It's the beginning of their end. I love taking pictures. My dad taught me to record the journey of my life with photos. So...

...The effect of television on a childs attention span Samantha Martin COM/156 May 6, 2012 Jodi Galvan Axia College of the University of Phoenix The effect of television on a childs attention span In watching my 13-year-old daughter, and constantly trying to get her to complete the simplest of tasks such as loading the dishwasher. I have often wondered if watching too much television has anything to do with her inability to complete the smallest of tasks. Some people think that children who watch too much television are likely to develop ADHD; however, it may be the opposite. The child who is prone to Attention problems may be drawn to watching television to sooth their minds (New Scientist, 2007). Is it possible that children too watch much television? According to Eric Landhuis of the University of Otago, children should not watch more than two hours of television per day (New Scientist, 2007). More than two hours of television can lead to attention problems in adolescence. Children who watched more than three hours of television had above average symptoms of ADHD (New Scientist, 2007). Rapid scene changes can over stimulate the brain. Recently their was a controversial news story on how the rapid scene changes in the cartoon Sponge Bob Square pants on the network Nickelodeon over stimulated the young brain of children under the age of six. The over stimulation can make real life seem boring. Landhuis goes on to say, “children who watch...

The similarities that exist are due to the fact that the obstacle that SpongeBob and Patrick found out that King Neptune’s crown got stolen from Plankton and it is taken to “Shell City”. Krabs is threatened to death, so SpongeBob and Patrick decide to go to shell city to get back the crown. This is similar to when Odysseus is called to fight the Trojan war. He does this by holding out through his favorite song. They also encounter a pit of monsters they have to walk through....

...Gender Role Stereotypes and Children’s Television For this paper, I had to watch a wide variety of different shows. I had to watch a few cartoons, sitcoms and PBS shows. What I found in this study I found very interesting. I found that the most traditional roles in men and women were found in the PBS shows. I am sure this is because when children watch these, they are usually at the age where they are establishing the roles of girls and boys. I found that in the sit-coms, especially friends, my research correlates with what the Signorelli article says. According to the article, “Women make up at least half of the characters in soap operas.” This is true in Friends; there are three boys and three girls. Also true in The Office, they have just as many women as they do men. In the article I also found that “women characters have the stereotypical role of emotional, romantic, and affectionate emotions.” This is true in the way that Monica has a stereotypical occupation of a chef. That is very domestic. She also does all of the cleaning, and nurtures all of her friends. Another way is that Rachel is a waitress, which is also very domestic. They are both pretty emotional. The article also states, “On average women tend to be about 4 years younger then men.” I am not sure of the exact ages of the women or men in Friends, but they women do look a little bit younger. It makes sense; Ross is Monica’s older brother. The research in the Signorelli article states how women in television...

...normal, natural, right and good for its male and female members. Regardless of what view you take gender as, it ultimately leads to relations in the male and female category. One major subject of gender is gender roles, which basically means how males and females should speak, think, dress and act within the context of society and can be linked to gender stereotyping (also a topic of discussion). It is apparent in most if not all cultures, but the “role” itself varies from one culture to another. A major gateway for this is through the media. In the United States, children’s cartoons are a prime example. Of the plethora of cartoons available for discussion, four highly popular ones, current and old, will take priority: Dora the Explorer, Spongebob Squarepants, Rugrats, and the Scooby Doo series. First to be discussed is the extremely popular, Dora the Explorer. The show can be considered a global phenomenon being dubbed in over twenty different languages, so it has a large fan base amongst the varying cultures around the world. Now, on to the topic of gender in regards to the show, the show itself is not necessarily targeted solely towards young females/girls. In fact, the show is highly popular amongst young males/boys as well. This is mainly due to the fact that Dora isn’t your typical “girl” in the sense of gender roles, which she is more or less considered a tomboy. Dora wears a t-shirt, shorts, and tennis shoes and carries a backpack; she also has short hair. Also, the context...

...This theory states that the seven main characters of the animated series SpongeBob SquarePants, represent the seven deadly sins. SpongeBob, the star of the show, represents lust. Even though he is not lustful, his personality is completely revolved around his love for everyone. Patrick, SpongeBob’s best friend, represents the sin of sloth, which makes a lot of sense due to his characters main characteristic is laziness. Sandy, an underwater squirrel, represents the sin of pride. She shows her sin through her love and pride in her science work and Texas roots. Gary, SpongeBob’s pet snail, represents gluttony, which also makes sense due to, “SpongeBob forgetting to feed Gary is a ‘thing’ on the show” (Rodriguez). Squidward, SpongeBob’s coworker and neighbor, represents wrath due to his grim mood and anger toward everything within the show. Plankton, the owner of the Chum Bucket restaurant in the show, represents envy. His envy trait comes in with his jealousy in Mr. Krabs success. Lastly, there is Mr. Krabs whose deadly sin is greed. His trait comes within his greed for his money which is constantly represented...

Science findings are based upon evidence. Introduction to the Scientific Method Worksheet Long ago, many people believed that living things could come from nonliving things. They thought that worms came from wood and that maggots came from decaying meat. This idea was called spontaneous generation. In 1668, an Italian biologist, Francesco Redi, did experiments to prove that maggots did not come from meat. One of his experiments is shown below. Group I Group II Redi placed pieces of meat in several jars. He divided the jars into two groups. He covered the first group of jars with fine cloth. He left the second group of jars uncovered. Redi observed the jars for several days. He saw flies on the cloth of the...
