Hunting Dogs

...Hunting Dogs Charging into the cattails, my golden Labrador retriever flushes a huge male pheasant. My dad pulls the trigger, the pheasant is hit, but it is still flying. I tuck my shotgun in, and BOOM! The rooster is falling to the ground. My two dogs a English setter and a Labrador Retriever, takes off towards the spot where they saw the big bird go down. After a couple of minutes of sweeping the area, looking for the pheasant, we couldn't find it, so we moved on. Later that day, as my dad and I were walking in the field, our English setter froze up on point. Both my dad and I walk up to break the point when three Hungarian partridges break I pull up and get one and so does my dad. The night is a fun one, because we eat the two birds and my dad tells stories about his hunting trips. Read on for even more of those stories. The Labrador retriever is one of the most family friendly dogs, I think. According to the American Kennel Club the Labrador retriever is owned by over a million people. "The best for any kind of shooting... generally black and no bigger than a pointer, very fine in legs, with short, smooth hair... extremely quick running, swimming, and fighting... and their sense of smell is hardly to be credited," noted British sportsman Colonel Hawker, referring to the Labrador retriever. The Labrador was originally bred in Canada in the 1800's and used for hunting waterfowl for the most part. With their big mouths, they can retrieve the biggest types...

...to meet with Charles (Chuck) Griffin, take the dogs for a walk, and get a cup of coffee from the Deer Perk coffee shop located in Deer Park, Texas. Chuck was a bold character, never backing down from an opportunity to bring a smile to the faces of his friends and family. Every week, I met Chuck outside the gated, community east of Houston, Texas. We shared a comedic greeting, usually at my expense, regarding haircut, eyeglasses, or clothing and gingerly began our walk towards the soccer, fields located behind a group of shops smartly placed to attract patrons of the sporting events which occurred regularly. Our walks were always filled with laughter about current events, coworkers, or politicians. Two to three hundred feet from the park, our energy filled canines would started to show their excitement as they anticipated our destination and the activities always afforded them by this midweek rendezvous. Frisbees always began flying well before we arrived at the center of the soccer fields. Dogs came off the leashes and bolted in the direction towards those floating discs, always wanting to be the first to sink their teeth into what we thought must be the best tasting plastic around. Chuck’s dog (Sam), more often the winner with the longer legs and the more muscular of the two, always held his head high as he trotted back towards his master, looking like the police dog who had just found the drugs. Shane (my dog) continually tried to take the trophy and perform...

Natural vs Artificial Selection

...Natural Vs Artificial Selection in dogs that has been altered to suit a person’s need Introduction Dogs exist in both wild and domestic set-up whereby they vary in shape and size. This means that there are different breeds of dogs resulting from artificial and natural selection. Each existing species was created separately but they can be modified by the environment. However, these changes are limited hence cannot produce a new species. Artificial selection is whereby a species of a particular plant or animal is modifies by breeders into a distinct breed with unique physical attributes. The offspring obtained from each breeding process may exhibit minimal differences that only a breeder can identify. The aim of this breeding process is to breed an offspring with desired physical attributes, which is then allowed to breed further. An offspring with undesired physical attributes is not allowed to breed. The breeding process is repeated until the small differences observed increase gradually. This represents the process of artificial selection (Venemma). Natural selection represents a similar process that occurs in nature. In a natural setup, organisms normally vary hence reproduce at a specific geometric rate. Survival of these organisms depends on adaptation to the natural environment (Pollan 23). This creates a division whereby organisms that are environmentally suited will reproduce and those not suited will die. This is a resemblance of artificial selection, but this natural...

Skechers Commercial

...Siltanen, chairman and chief creative officer of Siltanen & Partners. Last super bowl, the company used celebrity Kim Kardashian to create buzz for their Shapeups sneakers by showing a sex appeal advertisement. Kardashian’s contract expired in late 2011 and she was not resigned by Skechers due to her recent negative publicity. This year, Kim Kardashian was replaced by a French bulldog who appealed to a wider audience. The commercial featured the dog named Mr. Quigley who was sporting athletic clothing and two pairs of red Skechers Gorun sneakers. He is shown racing a pack of greyhounds at Tucson Greyhound Park and not only wins the race, but also manages to do the moonwalk across the finish line to rapper Tone Loc’s hit single, “Wild Thing”. The commercial ends with a funny remark stated by billionaire entrepreneur and owner of Landmark Theaters and the Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban. The use of animals, especially dogs, was a featured trend of this year’s super bowl commercials. A lot of people enjoy pets, so the use of a cute dog in this commercial makes it easy for anyone to relate to. In the Skechers commercial, the use of Mr. Quigley demonstrates the company’s attempt at humor appeal for their audience and it is also a metaphor for the brand as the company’s CMO, Leonard Armato, states “There’s an underdog in all of us”. Skechers succeeded with this commercial in reaching the intended audience as a sneak peak was pre released prior to its full premiere during the super...

With that in mind, I do believe that leisure can be applied to everyone when they actually sit down and think about leisure.
