...SPRING VALLEY FOREST PRODUCTS CORPORATION Upon returning from his annual two-week vacation in early July of 2002, the treasurer of the Spring Valley Forest Products Corporation, a Mr. Fred Firr, found the firm's audited balance sheet as of June 30 on his desk. Close scrutiny of the company's financial condition as reported in this document suggested to Mr. Firr that the cash flow picture for the enterprise was deteriorating. In times gone by, the firm had been able to maintain sizeable cash balances in its bank of account, Tippecanoe Trust Company, during the major portion of the fiscal year, and had found only modest seasonal borrowings necessary. Recently, however, a lengthening of credit terms to customers necessitated by intense competition in the company's dominant product lines had increased working capital needs quite substantially. Simultaneously, lower selling prices occasioned by the same competition had diminished profit margins. For these reasons, Mr. Firr-who had starred as a quarterback in high school, felt that a careful forecast of funds needs for the remainder of 2002 was in order. Spring Valley Forest Products (SPRIVORPCO) produced plywood paneling and moldings both for lumber wholesalers and major contractors in the north central Indiana area. The verdant Wabash River Valley had proven capable of supporting the lush growths of timber necessary to the company's production activities. Most lumber, however, was purchased from independent farmers and...

... BIO 280 9/9/2013 Acting Locally My father was a teacher. He would take the family on educational camping trips to learn about the environment. One of the trips that was most memorable is the trip to Death Valley in California. Death Valley is an amazing place to visit if you love nature. There is so much to see and learn about. You will see faults, geologic formations, sand dunes, salt flats, and so much more. Death Valley has the lowest elevation in the United States. Death Valley dates back to the Ice Age and was covered by ice. It contains many species and beautiful landscapes. Ash Meadows is a wetland region with springs, small reservoirs, and streams. “The meadows are protected as national wildlife refuge principally for the many types of birds found there, but they also support fish, lizards, and various mammals, and provide the sole United States habit for no fewer than 24 species.” (americansouthwest.net, 2013) Devils Hole is a flooded cave entrance which provides the only remaining habitat for the endangered species the Devils Hole Pupfish (Cyprinodon diabolis). Farming has caused a dramatic drop in the water level in the Ash Meadows. This...

...One of my educational goals is to receive my masters in sustainable agriculture or ecology. I would also like to receive my teaching credentials. Once I graduate I want to work on research projects in my field; specifically, conservation projects. I also would like to teach botany, plant science, and pedology, soil science, to high school and college students. I plan on sustaining my 3.475 GPA so that I can transfer to either UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, Humboldt, or Cal Poly. Because I only earn $15,000 annually, I need supplemental help to pay for the expenses of college. I plan on saving any scholarship money I earn at Diablo Valley College to pay for the tuition I will soon owe at the four-year institution I transfer to. I will also use the...

...Death Valley. Pahrump is about 35 miles long and 8 to 15 miles wide, an area of approximately 364 square miles. Surrounding the Valley are the Spring Mountain range to the east and the Nopah Mountains to the west. This document is a report analyzing the current property market status and demographics in Pahrump. The purpose of this report is to assess the viability of building a mobile home park in Pahrump, NV. Location of Pahrump in Nevada on Google Maps Pahrump – An Introduction The peaceful Pahrump Valley of Southern Nevada is located approximately 45 miles West of Las Vegas and 60 miles East of Death Valley. The word Pahrump is a Paiute Indian expression interpreted to mean "water rock" or "place where big waters flow". Pahrump offers a rural, country-like atmosphere with clean fresh air, plenty of good water and a temperate desert climate second to none. The surrounding majestic mountain ranges and breathtaking sunsets are truly awesome. People are friendly, property taxes are low and there are no personal or corporate taxes. With a population of about 36,000 there is no traffic to fight and very little crime. Pahrump was originally inhabited by the Shoshone. It was slowly inhabited by American settlers in the late 19th century. They reportedly chose the name for Pahrump after the original indigenous name PahRimpi, or "Water Rock," so named because of the abundant artesian wells in the valley. Because of the artesian wells, the new inhabitants of Pahrump Valley began...

...Manicured golf courses and tree-lined streets belie the fact that there is very little natural greenery in the Coachella Valley. Notable exceptions are the scenic hikes in Indian Canyons, near Palm Springs. The longest of many hikes on this Native American land is the Palm Canyon Trail, a total of 15 miles. This trail follows Palm Canyon Creek, which may or may not have flowing water depending on the time of year and recent rainfall. Once you pass the tollgate, the second parking area reaches this trail. This is also the parking area that houses the trading post, which offers a nice collection of Native American crafts and gift items, along with restrooms. The Native Americans here are the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuila Indians, and they’ve lived in the Palm...

Many of our customers meet us in person at the local markets before buying, but we also gain many customers through our website (www.lebeaubamboo.com). In the coming year we plan to also start selling directly online, shipping our plants throughout Oregon to increase our customer base. My father and I have always shared a deep passion for growing plants, so we decided to start the nursery when I was twelve years old. Originally we had a focus on selling vegetable starts such as tomatoes, peppers, corn and squash. In the beginning bamboo was only a small part of the business. As our collection of bamboo species and varieties grew from five to ten to fifty, I began to realize how different bamboo was from other plants and ultimately how useful they could be. I am now 20 years old and studying public accounting, CPA track, at Southern Oregon University. My father has been teaching...

...The Arizona valley is home to thousands of species of animals, including the javelina (or Peccary), which is one of the most destructive species that has recently began to expand its environment to the streets of cities that border their natural habitat. The cities I’m talking about are Ahwatukee and Paradise Valley, whose citizens have seen an increasing occurrence of javelina encounters. There are several problems that these animals tend to cause in the aforementioned cities; Javelina’s are wild and destructive, they eat landscaping/plants that citizens pay so much to keep presentable, attack dogs and people, attract larger predators such as mountain lions and bobcats, and tend to travel in herds of two to twenty (AZGFD). This invasive species poses a great problem for the community of cities that border the untamed desert. This problem we face may not be regarded as rampant right now, but it would be best to implement a proper solution now so that problems they cause do not become an epidemic. Often, javelina attacks against people are due to lack of information on how to deal with the animal. People who are misinformed or uneducated about the situation tend to get close to the animal or try to feed it, and in most cases the animal will charge. Javelina’s eyesight is deemed as terrible, and sometimes they think that they are cornered when they are not. In this case they become aggressive to defend themselves or their herd. In addition to being misinformed, citizens of these...

...was alone again in the quiet darkness.” [20-21] ch. 1 One of the first symbols mentioned in the book in the first chapter. Here the green light is made to symbolize Gatsby’s dream and his hope for his future. His love for Daisy and his dreams are materialized in a light in which he reaches over and over again but cannot attain. “This is a valley of ashes–a fantastic farm where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills and grotesque gardens; where ashes take the forms of houses and chimneys and rising smoke and, finally, with a transcendent effort, of ash-grey men, who move dimly and already crumbling through the powdery air. Occasionally a line of grey cars crawls along an invisible track, gives out a ghastly creak, and comes to rest, and immediately the ash-grey men swarm up with leaden spades and stir up an impenetrable cloud, which screens their obscure operations from your sight. …The valley of ashes is bounded on one side by a small foul river, and, when the drawbridge is up to let barges through, the passengers on waiting trains can stare at the dismal scene for as long as half an hour.” [23 & 24] ch. 2 The Valley of Ashes shows the people who are not able to accomplish the American Dream and they look and stare out at the people who pass by who are not in the valley wishing to be part of such a status. The people living here are like Gatsby, looking and reaching out, but cannot obtain anything. ““You’re a rotten driver,’ I...

I realize that I have failed to maintain my full-time F-1 student status and would like to explain the circumstances, beyond my control, which prevented me from enrolling in full 12 credit hours of undergraduate program at Park University last semester. Due to extreme sickness resulted from not being used to the weather changing, I had been absent from class longer than 2 weeks and wasn’t able to contact the teacher which I deeply regret. This had conflicted with school policy so I was administrative withdrew from classes. I wasn’t aware of the seriousness of this situation after I returned from school and being told that I was no longer in my registered classes. I had contacted the international office at my school then to get this problem resolved but it was too late so I couldn’t sig n up for new classes to replace the classes which were missing. I tried to apply for admission at Penn Valley Community College and got accepted and this letter was required to complete the admission process. I’d like to state that I was not being out of status for more than 5 months and I file this reinstatement letter as soon as possible under these circumstances and failure of this could lead to extreme hardship for me and my future education.
