The middle squad covers from the 6 o’clock position up to the 2 o’clock position. 3. The most desirable method for executing and area reconnaissance is ling range observation and reconnaissance. ...Commander had taken the time to read the full email message not just the subject line and first paragraph he would have seen at the bottom of the message that he was copy furnished with the same memo that was sent to all Supply Sergeants for that unit. I think the main cause of misunderstanding was not paying attention to detail. The Commander was probably rushing through his email and knowing the significance of the memo just sent it without reading all the information. Assignment #2 Who is the sender: First Sergeant Who was the receiver: Squad leaders What was the message: To give him the names of all the soldiers that has not passed the Physical Fitness Training Test. What channel was used to send the message: Email What was the misunderstanding: Not all squad leaders have access to computers during their workweek. The First Sergeant should have sent the email to the Platoon Sergeant. He would have contacted the squad leaders to have the information...

...The purpose of this counseling is to go over Motivation, Competence, Leadership, Responsibility and Accountability and overall performance during our Platoon FTX, WarPaint Focus. During the FTX you maintained full accountability of all sensitive items on your track, squad, section and in the platoon. I couldn't ask for more on G2G reports and accountability. You are a very competent NCO and I have no question about your Tactical and Technical proficiency as a leader during mounted and dismounted operations. You know our SOP's and executed them to perfection when the situation occurred. Motivation and Leadership are two of the big subjects I want to talk about today. Motivation was high and low for you. When I asked you to get something done you were willing and able and accomplished the mission or task that was given to you. I’m very confident in your ability to lead and take charge but you need to start thinking on your own and not be told what to do every time. I feel you are one of the better Squad Leaders in the Platoon if not the best and will make an awesome Section Leader when your time arises. But for you to become that Section Leader you must start to think like one. You know what needs to get done, when it needs to get done and how it needs to get done. As an NCO our soldiers are first, If they are sitting around doing nothing they are learning the exact same thing, NOTHING. This goes during the FTX and back at Garrison. I can't always be around and during the...

...Obtain a study guide. The purpose of a study guide is to make you aware of the type of questions that board members may ask and to put the material in a "user friendly" format for study. The questions in any study guide should not be considered to be the only questions a board will ask. Some units provide a basic study guide for their soldiers. Study guides can also be purchased at the PX. One excellent study resource is the U.S Army Board Study Guide (www.armystudyguide.com). This is a free and very comprehensive online study guide. Seek counsel; other soldiers in your unit who have previously been to "the board" can provide you with a wealth of valuable information. They will be able to tell you about the process, the types of questions asked and their views on what the board members are looking for. Additionally, they can participate in a mock board to help you prepare yourself (see mock boards). Knowing what to expect can help to ease your nerves and prevent you from being surprised by unexpected questions and situations. Know your unit's history, meaning of the unit crest and the unit's current mission. If being considered for promotion, know the MOS and skill level that you are being recommended for. Be familiar with the Soldier's Manual and be proficient in the duties required of that skill level. Be prepared to express yourself on current events (world and national and local level). Pay close attention to news programs and read the daily newspaper at least a week prior...

...“Best Buy Corporation: Strategic Management Analysis” S. Bensen, A. El Haddi, K. Fitzsimmons, A. Hussein, H. Marotske Strategic Management University of St Thomas, College of Business Executive MBA program, Cohort 62 Abstract Best Buy’s news coverage of the last few years has been consistently negative. The company’s performance and reputation suffered greatly. Its Earnings per Share fell by more than 200% in 2012 alone. These negative events were the result of governance problems, a changing market landscape (cloud computing, music streaming, online purchasing, online gaming, etc.) and a significant leadership turnover in a period of crisis. The company’s value stream is in a state of flux and could be said to be a master of none at this time. This paper presents strategies to deal with these problems by creating a strategic road map that will first stabilize Best Buy and eventually put it on a growth path. As a result of our analysis, we recommend that the company employs new strategies that include growing its online business by capitalizing on Geek- Squad’s expertise and exploring an internal fix-it strategy with the development of a compelling mission and vision. Finally, we recommend that BB explore the formation of an alliance with its rivals and leverage opportunities presented by new markets. 1. INTRODUCTION The purpose of this paper is to examine Best Buy’s (BB) strategies using SWOT, TOWS and value stream analysis. It proposes business strategies that can mitigate...

...Brandon Arechavala BUAD 455 Dr. Ghoreishi Best Buy: Strategic Audit June 8, 2015 Current Performance: Best Buy’s historical advantage has always been pricing. However, now that other specialty electronics retailers have dropped out of the market with the fall of Tweeter and Circuit City, Best Buy now must compete with discount retailers such as Kmart, Wal-Mart, Target, Sam’s Club, Costco, as well as online retailers like Amazon. Consumers no longer have to go to Best Buy to purchase DVDs because buyers can get them through dozens of online sellers or stream them online via NetFlix or Amazon. You can buy a Blu-ray player or camera at a discount online. Televisions and appliances are the two products Best Buy sells that many people are less likely to purchase online because of their size and prohibitive shipping costs. If Best Buy wants to continue to be the number one seller of electronics and electronics related accessories such as games, DVD's, and electronic wiring, Best Buy needs to focus on shoring up television and appliance dominance to ensure sufficient foot traffic. Best Buy must also address the phenomenon of 'show rooming', which is the practice of shopping for merchandise in a brick-and-mortar store and later buying online at lower prices. In the past, Best Buy has provided only one week training sessions for new hires. However, as a first step...

...Article Analysis #1 Richard Mamola Eastern Oregon University Bylund, Anders. “Best Buy: To Boldly Go Where Circuit City Went Before.” Daily Finance. 09 July 2012. Anders Bylund’s recent article, “Best Buy: To Boldly Go Where Circuit City Went Before,” touches on some of the problems that America’s largest consumer electronics retailer is experiencing this year. In an attempt to improve the bottom line, Bylund points out that Best Buy plans to cut 2,400 jobs, including 600 of its technical Geek Squad employees, and replace them with minimum wage hires. Bylund compares the lay-offs to a move a former rival made several years earlier. According to the article, Best Buy’s chief rival, Circuit City, laid-off a sizeable portion of its managerial staff and technical workforce in a last-ditch effort to stave off closure. Unfortunately, those lay-offs led to bankruptcy, which eventually led to the liquidation of America’s second largest electronics retailer. Bylund goes on to propose that, unlike Circuit City, Best Buy doesn't have an easily identifiable adversary at this time, ready to absorb the electronic giant’s fleeing customers. However, the article suggests that there are several big-box discount giants and an online retail behemoth lurking in the electronic fringes, ready to strike a lethal blow. The brick-and-mortar retail stores are having trouble, Bylund contends, keeping up with online retailers like Amazon, and it's starting to show more and more as brick-and-mortar...

...Stephanie Dunfee Article Summary 1 May 27, 2015 Video Case #1 – Chobani: Making Greek Yogurt a Household Name 1. Hamdi Ulukaya identified residents of Long Island, New York first for his first cups of Greek yogurt. The first cups were placed on shelves of a small grocery store in 2007. He focused on the “4Ps” to promote his yogurt. The first P was his product strategy. Ulukaya hired a yogurt master to help him develop Chobani. The product strategy focused on the actual product and packaging that product appropriately. The product undergoes an authentic straining process that removes excess liquid whey, resulting in a thicker, creamier yogurt with 13-18 grams of protein per single-serve cup. Chobani is higher in protein than regular yogurt, made with real fruit and only natural ingredients and preservative free. It does not contain any artificial flavors or sweeteners, but does contain five live and active cultures, including probiotics. As far as packaging, Ulukaya wanted a European style cup with a circular opening exactly 95 millimeters across. This shorter, wider cup is more visible on store shelves. In addition, he chose shrunk-on plastic sleeves with bright colors. Ulukaya’s price strategy involved approaching retailers directly rather than utilizing distributors. Prices were set high enough to recover costs and give reasonable margins to retailers, but not so high that they could be undercut. Ulukaya’s place strategy proved to be an extremely smart move. He worked...

...The book states that “the choice of segmentation bases is crucial because an inappropriate segmentation strategy may lead to lost sales and missed profit opportunities.” In order for Best Buy to stay ahead of the curve and provide their customers with the goods and services they desire, Best Buy has been broken down to target four different Psychographic Segments; with each segment essentially having its own personality. They have named these individual segments Barry, Ray, Jill and Best Buy for Business. This would be an example of a multisegment targeting strategy that “choose to serve two or more well-defined market segments and develops a distinct marketing mix for each.” Depending upon the name assigned to a store will determine the niche of the store itself for its concentrated targeting strategy. For example, the “Jill” segment has grouped together the suburban females who are a little techno-savvy. These stores offer personal shoppers who will be available should mother need assistance in purchasing a new camcorder for the family. There is also a wider variety of appliances than any other segment. A “Ray” store is more geared to the everyday man with more financing options available. A “Barry” store may not need these additional financing offers, as they are more able to afford higher-end quality. I do feel that the approach Best Buy has taken is a successful one. Best Buy offers a variety of technological goods. Most of which can be found in everyday households....

...BEST BUY After long thought of deciding which company to write about I have decided to go with a company I use often and I like the way things operate there. Best Buy is my company of choice; they have the latest in technology and can provide terms which are convenient for us the customers. Most recently this summer I purchased a 50inch TV for $387 before taxes, it was the last and only display model left; 5 months later I still feel I got a steal. They make it easy for the customer to finance products; as I did this summer with 12 months financing at no interest which will allow me to pay $25/month minimum and almost pay it off. These financing programs make things affordable for students and low income families. Another reason I like Best Buy is there customer incentive programs, with the card you receive points and they will email coupons for $5 off , $10 off, etc……As I continue with my own personal experiences I like the accessibility of Best Buy and the online friendly platform that so many customers use. Last Christmas while I was gone on military training I was able to purchase my fiancé a Kindle nook, services that are somewhat overlooked because everything is “online” now but they do a great job of using today’s technology tools. According to their website www.bestbuy.com is one of the top ten retail websites in the United States. Ethical and Social Responsibilities Now to get to the grits and facts of best buy and the business world, after reviewing some of the...

...assignment # 10- best buy case study Read the Best Buy case study on pages 491-492 and answer the following questions: 1. Why do you think so many of Best Buy executives opted for Choice 1or 2? What would you do to encourage more employees to adopt Choices 3 or 4? I believe majority of eligible employees opted for Choice 1 or 2, because the economic added value for Choice 3 or 4 was not explained very well. Usually people have difficulty to get comfortable with a metric if they do not have competitive and sufficient information. Another reason why Choice 1 and 2 were the most popular is the fact that not all employees attended the one-on-one counseling or took the online seminar. Therefor those who did not take advantage of these helpful tools, were defaulted into Choice 2: 50% stock options and 50% performance. Clearly, communicating these choices is challenging, but I believe that Best Buy can still encourage more employees to select Choice 3 or 4. One of the way to accomplish this goal is to sent out regular notifications about the metric to better explain the mechanism and show employees how that company is faring among others. 2. Does this Best Buy compensation program satisfy the line of sight requirements? Which of the four choices do you think has the most direct line of sight? In my opinion, this particular program meets all the line of sight requirements. Especially Choice 2 with 50% stocks and 50% performance shares. I believe...

...When I walked into the studio for the first time in three years, so many memories of dancing and hanging out with friends came back to me. It felt so good being back in that studio even though I had not started dance yet. Immediately, I was greeted by Ms. Lynette which I had not seen in a long time. We sat down, started chatting and she asked me this question, “What do you want to get out of dance?”. This was a very hard question for me to answer because I really wasn’t sure what I wanted specifically. Sure I wanted to become a better dancer so I can dance at Clemson but I also wanted to better myself in all aspects of dance and life. I was very nervous when I decided that I wanted to dance again. Everyone my age is such great dancers and I was far from being as good as them. Right when I said that to Ms. Lynette, she reassured me that it was not too late to start because she has known many dancers that have quit for a few years while they were younger and came back when they were teens. She told me a story about a girl named Mary that used to dance there when she was little. “Mary came back to us when she was a Junior in High School.” said Ms. Lynette. When she said that I thought to myself “If I am a Sophomore and Mary was a Junior, I can definitely do this!” and it gave me so much more confidence. Ms. Lynette continued the story, “She bled, she cried, she sweat, she worked so hard and it all paid off. She is now at NC State University and she is teaching at a dance studio.”...
