The data needed to prepare this report has been collected from both primary and secondary sources.

Secondary data has been collected through relevant books, annual report and different manuals of SQUARE Group, and other published papers. It has also been used from the existing information about the company profile which was available in booklets of the company. The company website of SQUARE group was greatly at help to gather some important information about the company background.

Limitations of the study
I tried my level best to enrich and complete this report although there are some limitations which are as follows:
 Unfortunately due to the company’s limitations (business secrecy and confidentiality), I was unable to acquire sufficient information.
 Personal barriers like inability to understand some official terms; office decorum etc. created a few problems for me.
 Time was also a limitation. Gathering a huge amount of information during working for only three months was really a difficult job.

Textile Industry in Bangladesh
The textile and clothing (T&C) industries provide the single source of economic growth in Bangladesh's rapidly developing economy. Exports of textiles and garments are the principal source of foreign exchange earnings. Agriculture for domestic consumption is Bangladesh’s largest employment sector. By 2002 exports of textiles, clothing, and ready-made garments (RMG) accounted for 77% of Bangladesh’s total merchandise exports. By 2013, about 4 million people, mostly women, worked in Bangladesh's $19 billion-a-year industry, export-oriented ready-made garment (RMG) industry. Bangladesh is second only to China, the world's second-largest apparel exporter of western brands. Sixty percent of the export contracts of western brands are with European buyers and about forty percent with American buyers. Only 5% of textile factories are owned by foreign investors, with most of the production being controlled by local investors. Bangladesh's textile industry has been part of the trade versus aid debate. The encouragement of the garment industry of Bangladesh as an open trade regime is argued to be a much more effective form of assistance than foreign aid. Tools such as quotas through the WTO Agreement on Textiles and Clothing and Everything but Arms and the US 2009 Tariff Relief Assistance in the global clothing market have benefited entrepreneurs in Bangladesh's ready-made garments industry. Bangladesh, with apopulation of about 156 million, is among the most densely populated countries in the world. In 2012 the textile industry accounted for 45% of all industrial employment in the country yet only contributed 5% of the Bangladesh's total national income. (www.assignmentpoint.com, 2015)

Applique

...is that patchwork or piecework is the process of seaming small pieces of fabric in to a larger whole, while appliqué is the process of sewing smaller pieces of fabric onto a larger background fabric. It is a technique of forming a single pattern with different pieces of cloth. Pieces of fabric are applied on top of another for decorative or functional purposes. 1.1 History Appliqué is an ancient technique of creating beautiful and decorative items with different pieces of cloth. Nomadic people of the desert have long pieced together their tents and even decorated them with elaborate appliqué. Festive patchwork textiles created for special occasions are found in many places throughout India. Pieced and appliquéd household items are made by women for dowries. These objects include decorative bags, pillows and sitting mats. Appliqué played a part in religious textiles as well. It has long been used to make decorative clothing, because most clothing is used until it is worn out and then again reused to create beautiful patterns out of the worn fabric. This serves both economic and decorative purposes. Small pieces of fabric are cut and joined side by side to make a large piece of fabric or for repairing a damaged fabric. The craft seems to have been prevalent all over India. “ In all periods there are to be found in pieced quilts both unique and conventional designs; within the framework of the latter each maker had full liberty in terms of colors, arrangements, sizes of the...

The Role of Technology in the Growth of the Philippine Textile Industry

...2012 ABSTRACT The rise of globalization has shifted the manufacturers of textile and apparel to many different parts of the world in search for cheaper labor and maximization of profits. Trade liberalization also means that the world can be your market, and that everyone can be your competitor. We examine the current state of the Philippine textile industry in this context, and the role that technology plays in an industry that is struggling to survive in the face of stifling competition. The Philippines textile industry has suffered steady decline in the past several decades despite starting out strong in its early stages. This study aims to explore the potential for growth of the Philippine’s textile industry given a boost in more advanced technology and innovation. The author focuses on technology because this is the one thing that other countries have already adopted, and with which the Philippines has still yet to fully embrace, partly due to lack of funding and government support. This study will look at the Philippine textile industry’s production output from the year 2000-2010, and aims to establish a relationship between the production volume and the number of patents awarded to innovators within the Philippines, which will be used as a measure of the country’s technological advancement. This research used regression analysis and utilized the Auto Correlation and Ordinary Least Squares Method. The findings show that the patents data may not be a reliable measure...

Obi Fragment

...drew me to this obi fragment was not necessarily due to the fact that there is a great amount of detailed work that was invested into it but because it acts as a part of a traditional piece of clothing: the kimono. The kimono serves as a silhouette for which the origin of clothing – a form that is a functional yet can be artful, as interpreted in Japanese culture. Rather than including imagery, this obi fragment is geometric and follows a clear checkerboard like pattern with variation in square shapes. As mentioned at our visit, the piece could very well be contemporary, my thought being that it its geometric and linear form as well as the hidden underlying repeat geometric patterns are what makes it so. The fragment is roughly 18 x 14 in. and includes plain weave, twill weave, supplementary weft patterning, and silk brocade. Observing the hand of the fabric it is evident that there are layers that comprise the hidden diamond shape geometric pattern that are featured in most of the larger square shapes. Materials include metallic thread as well as kinran (paper weft) – what is known as a truly luxurious weave where kin, meaning old, and ran, which refers to a flowing style of an ancient robe that features gold or gold leaf threads included in the warp, weft, or both. This may mean that this fragment was made to be a part of a robe that also featured gold or gold leaf threads. I am personally curious as to why this piece is only a fragment and not a full obi and what was the robe...

Prehistoric man, as early as 9,000 BC, was the first to incorporate the stencil printing technique into their surroundings, by placing his hand against the cave wall and blowing pulverized pigment around it. Examples of this early application can be found in caves in France and Spain. Today, this technique is extensively employed for decorating wallpaper, ceilings, textiles and furniture. Textiles are formed by weaving, knitting, crocheting, knotting, or felting. The words fabric and cloth are used in textile assembly trades (such as tailoring and dressmaking) as synonyms for textile. However, there are subtle differences in these terms in specialized usage. Textile refers to any material made of interlacing fibres. Fabric refers to any material made through weaving, knitting, spreading, crocheting, or bonding that may be used in production of further goods (garments, etc.). Cloth may be used synonymously with fabric but often refers to a finished piece of fabric 1 Etymology The word 'textile' is from Latin, from the adjective textilis, meaning 'woven', from textus, the past participle of the verb texere, 'to weave'.[4] The word 'fabric' also derives from Latin, most recently from the Middle French fabrique, or 'building, thing made', and earlier as...

Textile Experience

...PREFACE: To The Evaluators Of My Training Program If we look at our surroundings, all the human beings would be wearing some cloth, most of which is woven. Today the average consumption of textile products per person per year is 6.7 Kg. The world population has crossed the six billion figure, so more than 40 million tons of fabric is utilized by the mankind of world each year. Indeed both consumption per person and population are increasing at a faster pace. Consumption per person is confidently expected to increase after December 2004, as WTO would eliminate the quota costs, import duties and other such tariffs. To be competitive in the textile market, the manufacturers of this industry will have to transfer this benefit of low cost to the customers, which in turn would encourage the customers to buy more. This process would yield economies of scale for the producers and thus the textile companies will achieve enormous growth. Pakistan has competitive edge over many other countries in the textile industry, so it will more focus and capitalize on this concern. This gives a view of future prospects of opportunities in textile and importance of textile products. More specifically the shade, look, handfeel of fabric and durability of shade are the crucial factors of concern for the textile customers (these factors are expected to gain more attention of customers in future). These factors are complied in dyeing processes. Kohinoor Dyeing Mills Ltd. (KDML) is involved in the business...

At least 1,129 people were killed when the Rana Plaza factory complex collapsed outside the capital Dhaka in April, sparking demonstrations against Western brands and prompting some retailers to threaten to cancel orders. Government data released on Tuesday showed that the country's total exports -- 80 percent of which come from the garment sector -- soared by 16 percent year-on-year in June to $2.7 billion, following an increase of 15 percent in May. "The disasters didn't have much impact. They are scattered incidents," head of the government's Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Shuvhashish Bose told AFP, referring to the Rana Plaza tragedy and other factory fires that have killed another 130 workers since November. Total exports from Bangladesh, the second-biggest clothing manufacturer in the world after China, grew by 11 percent to a record $27.02 billion in the 2012-13 financial year to June. ...
