Environmental considerations are of utmost importance to many individuals in Canada such as the impacts of development on things such as agriculture, air quality, wildlife, lakes, rivers, oceans and water supplies, greenhouse gas emissions, contamination from industry activities. Firms are under pressure to minimize their industrial footprint. One way of managing their environmental impact is through stakeholder engagement to identify sensitive environmental issues that are at the community level and to work with the public to make sure that development is responsible and come up with solutions to fix concerns.
Stakeholder engagement is a process that involves any individual who is directly affected by decisions made by firms as a way to minimize the effect on the environment by working with the stakeholder to implement a solution. Stakeholder engagement has a critical role in informing the public of potential impacts of a project to come up with technical and managerial approaches that will allow benefits to be maximized while reducing consequences; best of both worlds for both the company and the stakeholders. Though it’s not as simple as that, public involvement requires a two-way communication street so that stakeholders and the firm can work together to solve any issues. This …show more content…
Fracing is a process that cracks shale-using liquids under high pressure to extract oil and natural gas. This has allowed firms to be able to extract natural resources from reserves that would be usually hard to reach; therefore it increases the amount of production. Those opposing fracing have environmental concerns such as water contamination from liquids that they use to crack shale, the tremendous amount of water needed to crack the shale and even increased concentration of toxins in air which can cause nosebleeds all the way to brain
