MoSPE Standard 1- Reflection
“To ensure, support and empower students with special needs and their families, so all students receive individualized services and resources they need to develop to their maximum potential in their school and community.” I believe strongly that ALL students must have access to and participate in the general curriculum throughout all aspects of the school environment. – This is my personal vision however as an educational leader my charge is collaborate with stakeholders to develop shared vision and mission statements for a school/department or program.
The Vision statement of school is defined as an “ideal image” of what school will look like or achieve in the future. The vision on the school should not come solely from myself. If others feel left out they might have “buy in”. It should involve input from teachers, parents, community leaders and other stakeholders. However I would have to do some strategic planning based on data-driven process; making sure that I understood and researched the current status of educational community. It is very important that the development of the vision is based on values, hopes, and dreams of diverse populations. I would strongly advocate that every student has equitable and appropriate learning opportunities. I believe creating a shared vision should not occur in long and drawn out planning sessions. Once completed, the vision statement should be put in print and very visible in the community. It is my responsibility to communicate the vision to the various internal publics.
A Mission statement defines “who, why and how” of an organization. Along with the core beliefs and values, this provide the guidelines in which staff and other stakeholders have agreed to work to achieve a shared vision. This involves processes needed for growth.
