...Pursuing My MBA Pursuing My MBA May 6, 2008 Introduction One of my many dreams has always been to completing my education. As a single parent raising two boys, and working fulltime, it was a dream of mine to earn a college degree. Finally, I had the courage to get my undergraduate degree at the age of 49 from Jacksonville University. I considered myself lucky because several professors truly made quite an impact in my life. They advised me to pursue the MBA after one year of rest, in order for me to get some of my personal affairs in order. My former professors perceive me to be an outgoing person with a vision and a low tolerance for incompetence. They often refer to me as a natural leader. Possible career as a manager, I did not want to risk having my plans ruined. I thought long and hard to analyze the time it would take me to complete the MBA and the time I had to give up to accomplish my dream. My decision to pursue an MBA degree was more on considering the benefits of an MBA degree and the opportune time to do it. I decided that it made more sense to wait a year rather than pursue immediately after earning my undergraduate degree. I knew that choosing to pursue an MBA would basically open up new career opportunities. Some of my concerns were getting back into studying and test-taking mode, which doesn't always come naturally after some time away from it. I’m fully aware that attending work and taking classes at the same time can be a heavy...

...Decision to Pursue an MBA Degree Decision to pursue MBA Program is a first step to reach my personal goal and start a new career. After my bachelor’s degree in Computer Science I was offered a job as IT Administrator to a well-known organization and never had an opportunity to think about further education. The decision to obtain an MBA requires a substantial commitment of money and time. However, there are many compelling reasons to pursue an MBA to get ahead in the business world. Below are some of the lines of reasoning that I want to mention: MBAs are internationally recognized Travel to many areas of the world, and most people have at least heard of the graduate degree known as the MBA. This makes it much more valuable than many other business degrees. For example, even though a Master's in Commerce may be a prestigious degree in some countries; other locations may not be familiar with the program. Having an MBA, which is recognized almost universally, will increase my ability to compete for jobs in more locations. MBAs can earn higher salaries One of the major reasons, as I have chosen to pursue an MBA is that it often allows graduates to earn a greater salary. Although the average starting salary for MBA graduates is influenced by the number of years of work experience they have prior to starting their degree, even those with fewer than three years of industry experience reportedly start out earning close to $70,000. This figure rises dramatically as graduates...

...Assignment 1: The MBA Decision 1. How does Ben’s age affect his decision to get an MBA? Ben must evaluate the cost of completing a MBA program against the higher earning potential after graduating. Therefore Ben’s age is one of the critical factors in his decision because his age determines how much longer he can work. If he would wait his MBA at age 40, he would have less time to recoup his cost by working at an increased salary resulting from graduating his MBA program. 2. What other, perhaps non-quantifiable factors, affect Ben’s decision to get an MBA? Asides from a purely financial standpoint, there are several other factors that may affect Ben’s decision to get an MBA. The value he attaches to education, completing a higher degree, or a sense of accomplishment may positively affect his decision. On the other hand the stress of a MBA program, the time commitment, or the intellectual challenge may be negative factors in Ben’s decision-making process. Ben may also think that a MBA and his increased earning potential may allow him to take better care should he chose to have a family. 3. Assuming all salaries are paid at the end of each year, what is the best option for Ben –from a strictly financial standpoint? In order to compare all three options, the net present value (NPV) of the three options must be calculated. NPV is the present value of future cash flows minus the present value of all costs associated in a decision (Ross, Westerfield, Jaffe, & Jordan, 2011)...

...Whither an MBA at Strutledge Strutledge University is a small private college located on the outskirts of a large urban city. There is a need to draw more students there and the idea of bringing an MBA program is in question. There are concerns that come along with idea of having a MBA program such as: the school not being able to compete with its competitors, the decreasing value of an MBA and the students being receptive to the idea. The MBA program contains many fields and can be of a great advantage to the University. The Board of Regents must take action to see if the MBA program would be a great fit at Strutledge University. The Board of Regents need to analyze what is being proposed and think about how this new program can be beneficial for the University. The program should be in compliance and aligned with the University’s mission statement. It’s important to make sure that the MBA program goes hand and hand with the mission statement and offers the same quality of work that the other programs offer. The Board of Regents should weigh the pros and cons that come along with starting an MBA program. In order to do this, the Board of Regents will have to gather more information about the MBA program because the little knowledge that they have on the program is not sufficient enough for them to make a decision. The Board needs to see if there is really a need for an MBA program at the school and if the students can benefit from it. As stated before, the MBA program can help...

...bachelor’s degree in Biology and Psychology. The original plan was to attend medical school immediately after graduating but I was always intrigued by the idea of obtaining an MBA. I also felt like I had a lot of growing up to do before starting such a serious career path. I am currently the General Manager of three Sports Grill locations in south Florida and I feel like I can achieve so much more with a business degree. I chose to get my MBA in healthcare because I have always picture myself working in a hospital and I find the field very interesting with endless possibilities for growth. I have always been a hard worker and I strive for perfection, which I feel, will help me succeed in this program. This field is very new to me and that is probably my biggest fear moving forward with this program. I feel like I have to work a little harder than my peers because they are already familiar with the healthcare industry. I am very excited about starting something new and my journey is just beginning. I plan to attend medical school after I complete my Masters and I am hoping that this MBA program will help me grow as an individual in both the school and work environment. FIU is growing rapidly which is another reason I chose to stay in Florida and get my MBA as a proud panther. I am very excited to start the program and I am feeling really good about the next year and a...

...decision to get an MBA” Instructor: Lawrence Kirsch Student: Carlos Ochoa Date: 11/01/12 Although the MBA program has been successful for the past years, economy has changed and professionals have adjusted accordingly. The MBA program will provide me the tools to understand and implement business and management principles. I have been working professionally for more than 15 years in challenging positions with engineering companies and have good experience with many of the problems businesses and markets are facing today. The main reason why I decided to go back to school and attend an MBA program is to increase my salary potential and advanced my career. An MBA degree will help me find more employment opportunities and it will make me a more marketable professional. Although I want to start my own business and an MBA will help me do it. I am convinced that in today’s economy we need more job makers than job seekers. Earning an MBA is not a decision to be entered into lightly. The biggest disadvantage of taking an MBA program is its cost. The average cost of an MBA is estimated at $30,000 and there is significant time, attention, and energy involved, and there's no guarantee that I will land the perfect job after completing the program. In addition to this, getting an online MBA program will prevent students to have face-to-face contact and networking opportunities. The lack of student-to-student contact is also a disadvantage of an online MBA program. Networking is...

...Writing an Argument Latasha Randle MGT/521 February 6, 2012 Dr. Marie J. Abram Writing an Argument A Masters of Business Administration (MBA) is a post graduate degree which focuses on Business Communication. The program focuses on providing its attendees with business knowledge, leadership abilities, networking opportunities, and career advancement. Although the intent of the program is understood, one must weigh the advantages and disadvantages when determining if pursuing an MBA is the right choice. Oftentimes, obtaining a degree is only seen in a positive light. However, there can be some hidden negative impacts to seeking a MBA. There are several factors I personally had to consider when deciding to enroll in an MBA program. The MBA program is recognized as the most sought-after postgraduate degree program (VanderMey, 2011). According to the Graduate Management Admission Council, the average starting salary ranges from $61,000 to $78,000 annually for recent MBA graduates (VanderMey, 2011). The thought of obtaining a highly sought-after degree and the earning potential were my first true reasons for desiring to be in the MBA program. On the contrary, the job market is currently in a downward spiral. This means that with an MBA degree, there is a likelihood of remaining underemployed or unemployed. According to recent statistics, college graduates are facing the highest unemployment rates in more than two decades (VanderMey, 2011). Another objection to earning...

...signing up to a raft of new private courses offering an MBA, or Master of Business Administration, according to educators and students. In the West, the MBA and similar post-graduate programs have long been the go-to qualifications for would-be high fliers. But as Burma’s government undertakes economic and political reforms to open the country up to foreign investment, managers still lack formal qualification. “In Burma, people mostly work using experience, but they lack the theory,” said Aye Aye Mar, principal of the Business Institute Yangon. “When the country opens up, we can’t work as we used to before, we have to follow the global trend.” The Business Institute Yangon is one of a handful of private institutions that have begun offering MBA courses in Burma in recent years, as people increasingly stay in country to get the qualification rather than study abroad. “Both theory and experience is required in the workplace,” added Aye Aye Mar. “People need to read and study sample [business] cases. [Managers] can make better decision where they have completed master’s-level business studies.” These private institutions in Burma have tied up with universities in Thailand, France, UK and the United States, who provide valuable accreditation to the degrees. Many study for their MBAs while working a job, so courses are structured so that teaching is at weekends and in the evenings. Su Myat Mon, who is studying for an MBA and is also overseas director at SR Worldwide Education...

...Why an MBA University of Phoenix MGT/521 May 31, 2010 I could not decide if I wanted to go after my Master’s in Business Administration, or just stop at my bachelor’s degree. It took me 26 years to decide to go back to school to pursue my AA in Accounting, despite all the pressures, and pushing that I had received from my parents and my family members. So in 2006 I decided that it was time, I looked around to a variety of different colleges and decided that I wanted to attend University of Phoenix Online because I did not want to deal with going to classes, instead I preferred to stay home and be comfortable. After my associates in accounting I decided that because I could still not find a permanent job, I would go ahead and pursue my bachelors of arts in accounting as well. When I was in my last class of my bachelor’s degree, I was toying around with going after my master’s in business administration, and then what will I specialize in. I had been looking for jobs for quite some times on the Internet and in the papers for quite some time and have been sending out hundreds of resumes and have received no responses. I figured that if I went for a master’s degree it would open many more doors in the future. It was a tough decision on whether I wanted to pursue that master’s in business, after all I had been going to school now for the past four years, or if I should just stop at my bachelor’s degree and look for a job. It turned out that finding a job was not working out...

...Pursuit of an MBA Marvin Conway MGT/521 1 April 2010 Construct and Support an Argument Decision to Pursue an MBA To some, pursuing higher education is a waste of money and time. Others, such as me, may argue that it is an accomplishment and the benefits from acquiring a degree are worth the efforts and hard work. With the current national unemployment rate at 9.7% (US Department of Labor, Feb 2010) and steadily rising, it seems improbable that finding that “ideal” job is likely. During these tough economic times, I find myself with a bachelor’s degree at a low paying job with a child to take care of. It is because of this situation that I have chosen to pursue a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) degree with an emphasis in Accounting; receiving higher education could be the answer to my problem. According to the job outlook by education 2006-16 (Occupational Outlook Quarterly), increased earnings and lower rates of unemployment are trends associated with additional levels of education (Liming & Wolf, 2008). After taking the Jungian 16-Type Personality Self-Assessment test, scoring ISTJ, I found that my results support my decision to pursue my MBA with an emphasis in Accounting. A person scoring ISTJ are found to be organized, compulsive, private, trustworthy, and practical people. Their possible career choices are office manager, accountant, business manager, tax agent, and public servant (Pearson Prentice Hall, 2007). I recognize that I possess...

...Plan Project: MBA Program Branch in Portland Section: Wed 9:00 am Team Member: Menghui Lin, Yu Chen, Jun Yang and Xiaoyi Ji Introduction Based on the success of MBA program in Corvallis (OSU main campus), we are planning to establish the MBA program branch in Portland. It will be a good choice to expand our MBA program in Portland because Portland is the biggest city in Oregon and there are a lot of business corporations which can provide many potential business opportunities. The primary objective of our project is to get more students involving our MBA program, build a high quality education program and improve the influence of OSU in the whole Oregon, no matter in education or in the business realm. Meanwhile, we must admit that there are several potential risks we will face in implementing the practical program. There is more specific information and analysis as follow. Risk Identification Through the analysis of the whole parts of the new program, we identify the following risks: competition risk, financial problem, teaching quality and reputation impairment. OSU is not the only one who provides MBA programs in Portland. So it may face the fiercely competition with other school like Portland State University. And starting a new program in Portland that is far away from the main campus, the program may need a lot of money to operate. The financial problem is the core that decides the normal operation of the MBA program in Portland. As a MBA program, the teaching...
