Unemployment occurs when people are without work and actively seeking work. During periods of recession, an economy usually experiences a relatively high unemployment rate. According to International Labour Organization report, "More than 197 million people globally are out of work or 6% of the world's workforce was without a job in 2012. The unemployment rate is measured and calculated as a percentage by dividing the number of unemployed individuals by all individuals currently in the labor force. The International Labour Organization has four different methods on calculating unemployment rates.
The four methods of calculation are labour force sample surveys, official estimates, social insurance statistics, and employment office statistics. Sample surveys are a calculation of unemployment by different group categories such as race and gender. This method is the most internationally comparable. Official estimates are used from one or more of the other methods combined. The social insurance statistics are based on the number of people insured representing the total labour force and the number of people who are insured that are collecting benefits. This method has been heavily criticized due to the expiration of benefits before the person finds work. The last method, employment office statistics, includes a monthly tally of unemployed people who enter employment offices. This method also includes the unemployed who are not unemployed per the ILO definition. Unemployment can also affect an individual in many different ways.

Individuals can be affected by unemployment and can cause malnutrition, illness, mental stress, and loss of self-esteem, loss of sleep and the unemployed individual who may lose a sense of who they are. All these things could lead to depression. A study by Washington State and Lee University said it was more likely that if someone is unemployed

...Stats PaperCara Robertson September 19, 2013 Elements of Statistics MAT121.M2 Jenny Fiedeldey Chatfield College Statistics Paper #1 “It Ain't Necessarily So” Being as interested in news and politics as I am, I was already aware of the fact that statistics are extremely inaccurate. Statistics falsely portray their sample or population to be over exaggerated or under exaggerated. Either way, statistics are basically lies, whether that is the intention or not. Reading “It Ain't Necessarily So” has only further confirmed by beliefs about statistics and their falseness. I had never taken into consideration all of those who are involved in the inaccuracy of said statistics, though. I had always just blamed the news sources for that. However, reading this paper has taught me that the news sources are probably the only people not involved in what is basically a lie; they are just given the information and told to report it. I now know that the victim (or in some cases, so-called “victim”), investigator, and the person collecting the data are the ones who are to blame for the misrepresentation. These false studies are being presented to the public every day, concerning a very wide range of topics. Extreme confusion is caused when the public hears drastically varying numbers and reports concerning things such as presidential approval rates, unemployment rates, and any other topic one might think of. When each news source is reporting entirely different information on...

These protein concentration determinations necessary for downstream manufacturing processes to make sure the correct protein concentrations are used to meet product specifications and product performance. In the testing areas there are several test methods used by the laboratory to determine protein concentration. One method is the Amino Acid Analysis method (AAA). This method takes the protein and “unzips” the DNA strand of the protein and analyzes the protein for the different Amino Acids, then calculates a theoretical protein concentration based on the testing. Another method employed is the UV absorbance method (A280), where UV light (wavelength 280) is passed through the sample and hits the detector on the other side of the sample, at which point a measurement is made. The instrument will then use the light reading to determine...

...BSAD 221 01 Alexander Lewis NHL Team Salary Cinco de Mayo 2015 Morrisville State College Professor Boyce Part 1 Data Represented By a Population A population is all the subjects that you want to study. It takes every part of a category that is going to be studied and makes it a known hole. The population for this project would be Forward Cap, Defense Cap, Goaltender Cap, Total Cap, and Cap Space. Data Represented By a Sample A data sample is a set of data collected or selected from a statistical population by a defined procedure. Data Collection Methods (Non-Probability or Probability-based) The difference between Non-Probability and Probability-Based sampling is that Non-Probability uses or involves a random selection where the Probability-Based method does not. This means that Non-Probability samples can’t depend on the rationale of the probability theory. Using a Probability (Based Method) To make sure the sample I collected is Probability-Based, I used a Stratified Random Sampling. In a Stratified Random Sampling, you divide the elements of the population into smaller groups called strata. This will be used in my dataset where I will gather the different team into different strata. Part 2 1. The set of data that I chose for this project includes 30 observations and 6 quantitative variables. The data includes 30 measurements of the NHL team’s salary. The detailed salary per team was measured by Spotrac. The variables in the data set are Forward Salary...

...writing. In fact, the three universities that I have attended in the past have all required me to use the APA style of writing. As I recall my high school years, the APA style of writing also seemed to be a favorite amongst my high school teachers. They all required that term papers be written in APA style as well. This type of writing actually does not differ much from the ones included in the text reading. The text mentioned the APA style of writing several times. In my opinion, it appears to be the most popular style of writing, especially amongst college students. Based on the results of the quizzes, my grammar skills were actually a little better than average. I actually had expected to do better, but I guess my grammar skills are not as good as I thought they were. In any event I feel very confident when it comes to spelling, as I have always been a great speller. Even in grade school, I was a good speller. I learned at a very young age to challenge myself when it comes to spelling. Challenging my-self in that area really paid off as I became older, as I’ve never had a problem with spelling. However, I feel that I need more help with run on sentences and with thought patterns. Though I proof read my paper several times, it’s hard for me to see that I have several run on sentences until after I get my grade back. In general, I feel that my writing is just mediocre. However, I also believe that when it comes to writing, I am my own worst critic. Reason being, I am never...

...Terrica Thomas Mr. David Makhanlall Eng 090 12-11-11 My journey as a writer is when I do my papers I have to make sure that I have the correct grammar and no misspelled words. Because when write you want to make sure that your papers flows and that you stay on topic. Because you as a writer wants the people to understand what they are reading. Because your paper have to have so meaning to it and it have to have some clarity to. When I revise my papers it make me look at the things I done wrong. Like when I have misspelled words I can correct them and when I have sentences that don’t make sense and I take the out. When I write I make the mistake of writing a lot of write on sentences. I have to make sure that I don’t do that anymore. I have to make sure that I don’t forget the punctuations because I have the habit of not putting them where they belong and stuff. When I was writing my paper on my mother I think that I did a good job but I think that I could have writing about her goals in life. What she has done with her life right now and what she wants to do right now. I could have talk a little more about what she has done for me when I was growing up. What she had to do to raise three girls on her own. The pattern of errors that I need to work on is run on sentences.
