Two boats, the Prada (Italy) and the Oracle (USA), are competing for a spot in the upcoming America’s Cup race. They race over a part of the course several times. The sample times in minutes for the Prada were: 12.9, 12.5, 11.0, 13.3, 11.2, 11.4, 11.6, 12.3, 14.2, and 11.3. The sample times in minutes for the Oracle were: 14.1, 14.1, 14.2, 17.4, 15.8, 16.7, 16.1, 13.3, 13.4, 13.6, 10.8, and 19.0. For data analysis, the appropriate test is the t-Test: Two-Sample Assuming Unequal Variances. The next table shows the results of this independent t-test. At the .05 significance level, can we conclude that there is a difference in their mean times? Explain these results to a person who knows about the t test for a single sample but is unfamiliar with the t test for independent means.Since the p-value is less than 5% we reject the Hypothesis Test: Independent Groups (t-test, unequal variance) Prada Oracle 12.170 14.875 mean 1.056 2.208 std. dev. 10 12 n 16 df -2.7050 difference (Prada - Oracle) 0.7196 standard error of difference 0 hypothesized difference -3.76 t .0017 p-value (two-tailed) -4.2304 confidence interval 95.% lower -1.1796 confidence interval 95.% upper 1.5254 margin of error From the results, we are able to conclude that the difference in the mean times is -2.7050. This tableis the results from an independent t-test, showing the differences between Prada and Oracle. The independent sample t-test is used to compare the mean difference between two groups and in this case, the difference in mean times is -2.7050. If the value of the test statistic is beyond a critical value then there is less than a 5% chance we would obtain that outcome if the null hypothesis were correct, so in this case we reject the null

Bis 155 Week 7 Ilab

...Hopefully you will find this week’s iLab activity fun and useful. We’ll be exploring the world of statistics from a business perspective this week, allowing you to practice your skills with descriptive statistics, formatting, graphs, and regression analysis. As discussed in the lesson, the value of statistics lies in the ability to analyze data more effectively for the purpose of improving decision making. You might have heard the expression that “statistics never lie, and only liars use statistics”. There is an obvious truth in this statement, in that, depending on the questions being asked and the data collected, the statistics can skew reality. For example, it is true that as ice cream sales increase, accidents at swimming pools increase. Does this mean that the more ice cream that is sold, the more accidents it causes (correlation/causation)? Of course not, but the data, if not interpreted correctly, could lead to false conclusions. It just so happens that both are correlated to a rise in temperature in the summertime. The hotter it is outside, the more kids flock to swimming pools, leading to more accidents, and the more ice cream is sold. So you see, although statistics are vital in the world of decision making, you have to be wise, and ask the right questions. Determining Financial Viability

...Accounting and finance are closely related to a certain extent in which both deal with the financial aspects of a company. Accounting and finance work together in creating “a company’s budget or working capital analysis” (Wise-Geek, 2012, p. 1). Accounting involves recording of an organizations operations of a business as well as showing the information in the outline profit and loss accounts, which demonstrates the gain or loss of the organizations throughout the year. In addition, accounting includes provisions of a balance sheet replicating the monetary positions of a business at a specific time period. It should provide clear and precise figures about the proprietary and financial condition in a specific entity. Finance is a wider view and uses information, which is obtainable in the accounting area such as “profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statement” (Parikh, 2011, p. 1) to decide upon financially linked judgments, for instance how to increase funds for upcoming plans of a business. These statements provide a valuable amount of information for a company. The statistics retained in these statements assists financial directors with analyzing past performance as well as future inclinations of a business. ...data I picked was Intrinsic. I picked intrinsic because Of what the definition said it was which was belonging naturally. A qualitative variable is a variable without a sense of order. A qualitative variable is measured on a nominal scale. A nominal scale is a scale with no order but has some numeric values are nominal. An example nominal scale would be the data showed on the excel sheet for this assignment where male and female are showed as, 1-male and 2-female. Quantitative variables are numerical. An example of quantitative variables would be the number of people in a town which is a measurable attribute. Population is a quantitative variable. An easy way to remember the two variables is when you think of qualitative variables think or something being categorical and when you think of quantitative think of numerical. Qualitative variable The data above use qualitative variable. As stated before a qualitative variable is measured on a nominal scale. A nominal scale is a scale with no order but has some numeric values. An example nominal scale would be the data showed on the excel sheet for this assignment where male and female are showed as, 1-male and 2-female. As you can see everything listed on the above chart is in no specific order but is number so that you know what’s what. ...UNSW School of Economics ECON1203 Business and Economic Statistics Session 1, 2015 Major project: AdVantage Purpose The idea is of this assignment is to simulate a professional work task involving statistical analysis. It is designed to help students learn about what is involved in undertaking basic statistical analysis to understand a real-world problem, and communicating the results of this analysis to business stakeholders. Context and Problem You are working as a business analyst for Crunch-IT Consultants, a Sydney-based company that specializes in providing statistical consulting services to small and medium-sized companies. Your company is contacted by AdVantage, a designer of online advertisements whose business model is based on selling their design services to businesses that place ads on social media sites. You attend a breakfast meeting with a senior Crunch-IT consultant and AdVantage’s owner-operator, Arnold Valenzuela, to discuss Arnold’s concerns. At the meeting, Arnold says: “Well, first, I’d like to know whether any of the four designers I’ve hired are underperforming relative to their peers. It’s easy to see that there are big differences across my designers in the styles of their ads, and I can’t help thinking that maybe some styles drive traffic better than others – but maybe that’s not the case. Of course, as with any business, ensuring I am offering a value proposition to clients is key to generating repeat business and word-ofmouth...

Economic Research Paper

...Economic Forecast Paper The discussion in this paper is about Economic Forecast. The different places that are discussed will be The Bureau of Labor Statistics, The Economic Report of the President, The Federal Reserve System, and The United States Census Bureau. Over the course of this paper we will see how each department is important in our economy and what each department does in order to help or hinder the economy. The Bureau of Labor Statistics The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) was established on June 27, 1884 as a division of the Department of the Interior. President Chester Arthur appointed Carroll Wright as the first Commissioner of Labor. Many studies, reports, and statistical ideas developed under Wright’s tenure, “but perhaps his greatest accomplishment was the establishment of the principle that the Bureau would be devoted to ‘the fearless publication of the facts without regard to the influence those facts may have upon any party's position or any partisan's views’” (“History of BLS”, 2013). As the fundamental fact finders for the Federal Government in the area of labor economics and statistics, the BLS collects data from various sources. It processes and analyzes the data before publishing essential statistics for use by the American public; federal, state, and local governments; and businesses. “BLS data must satisfy a number of criteria, including relevance to current social and economic issues, timeliness in reflecting today’s rapidly changing economic...
