...SPSS Output Summary Name of the student Name of professor Date The relationship between IQ scores and GPA follows a null hypothesis. It can be expressed as null hypothesis: p = 0, there exists no correlation between IQ scores and GPA Alternative hypothesis: 0, quantifiable correlation between IQ scores and GPA Results of the test showed statistical significance. There exists a positive relationship between IQ score and GPA. The strength of the relationship is 0.446 with a variance of 0.2: consistent relationship of the values. A high rate of behaviors related to GPA has a significant effect on the performance of children in school. Their verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory, and processing speed skills is clearly noted in adulthood (O’connor, 2000). We can draw conclusions from the research related to the data. It supports the impact of the subjects behaviors, and the often portray some comprehension, memory and processing speed issues. There are some notable negative correlation and some diminishing academic success. This provides predictions about the personality of a child in adulthood and adult age (Bellinger, 1989). However, a closely related variable is the EF a domain that controls the inhibitory responses that influence the behavior inhibition and inhibitory control. The study fails to prove a substantial reason to support the correlation existing between inhibitory control and fluency, planning, working memory and set shifting...

...Dave’s Crash Course in Statistics using SPSS 1.0 Classifying the different types of data There are four types of variables: nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio. Distinguishing between these types of variables is important, as several statistical tools may only be used for certain types of data. Nominal variables: where values are assigned to categories in no particular order. This assignment of values is arbitrary and holds no particular meaning or order to them. For example, “sex” where 1=male 2=female “marital status” where 1=never married 2= married 3=defacto “yes/no type questions” where 1=yes 2=no. Ordinal variables: where values are assigned to categories that are related to each other in some logical order – such as ascending or descending order. For example, “age group” 1=under 21yrs 2=21-35yrs 3=35-49yrs 4=50 yrs and over “education” where 1=high school completed 2=tertiary studies completed 3=post-graduate studies completed. The higher the value assigned, the higher the category (ie. higher age group or education level). Interval variables: where the values assigned are ordered in the same way as ordinal variables, however, the intervals or distances between the categories are equally spaced. For example, “please rate the importance of the following attributes…” according to the scale 1----------2----------3----------4----------5 where 1=strongly...

...INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ADM NO. 113/01479 SPSS REPORT INTERNAL INDUSTRIAL BASED LEARNING 1 PRESENTED TO: JULIUS NYERERE SPSS is a software package used for statistical analysis. The software name originally stood for Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). SPSS is the acronym of Statistical Package for the Social Science.SPSS is one of the most popular statistical packages which can perform highly complex data manipulation and analysis with simple instructions. It is designed for both interactive and non-interactive uses. It is also used by market researchers, health researchers, survey companies, government, education researchers, marketing organizations, data miners, and others. The original SPSS manual (Nie, Bent & Hull, 1970) has been described as one of "sociology's most influential books" for allowing ordinary researchers to do their own statistical analysis.[4] In addition to statistical analysis, data management (case selection, file reshaping, creating derived data) and data documentation (a metadata dictionary was stored in the data file) are features of the base software. Statistics included in the base software: * Descriptive statistics: Cross tabulation, Frequencies, Descriptive, Explore, Descriptive Ratio Statistics * Bivariate statistics: Means, t-test, ANOVA, Correlation (bivariate, partial, distances), Nonparametric tests * Prediction for numerical outcomes: Linear...

...STAT582 HW7 Review of Two Statistical Software Packages – Minitab and SPSS Yan Sun As a statistician, have you ever got stuck in front of your computer, trying to figure out the correct syntax of a command to type into the little programming window, and just could not get it right? At that moment, I am sure you would wish there was some magic easy button that you could just click and then things would work the way they should. Well, magic does not happen everyday. However, some better choices can make life easier. Instead of using programmed command lines, some statistical software make their usage much easier by using a menu-driven interface. This kind of software are like well-organized control panels. Each of the things you need to do is controlled by a button somewhere on the panel. Once you get familiar with the layout of the panel, the actual work should be quite an enjoyable process. Several good menu-interface statistical software are available. Among them, Minitab and SPSS are the most widely used ones. This report serves as an introduction to these two software packages. For each of them, the software’s specialties, advantages, and suitability will be discussed. Some important functionalities, their implementations, and programming in the two software will be introduced. This report also includes ‘helpful resources’, which I personally found very helpful in learning and using the two software. 1. Minitab History Minitab was...

...information is called statistics. Statistical Data: According to Horace Secrist “By statistics we mean aggregate of facts affected to a marked extent by multiplicity of causes, numerically expressed, enumerated or estimated according to reasonable standard of accuracy, collected in a systematic manner for a pre-determined purpose and placed in relation to each other”. Features of This Definition Are: * Statistics are aggregate of facts. * Statistics are affected to a marked extent by multiplicity of causes. * Statistics are numerically expressed. * Statistics are enumerated or estimated according to reasonable standard of accuracy. * Statistics are collected in a systematic manner. * Statistics are for a pre-determined purpose. * Statistics should be placed in relation to each other. Functions of Statistics: * It presents facts in definite forms. * It simplifies mass of figures. * It facilitates comparison. * It helps in formulating and testing hypothesis. * It helps in prediction and * It helps in the formulation of suitable policies. Limitations of Statistics: * It does not deal with isolated measurements. * It deals only with quantitative characteristics. * Its results are true only on average. * It is only a means. * It can be misused. * Graphs can be misleading (scale). * Association does not necessarily imply causation (addiction and talented) About spss SPSS is a software package...

...One Way ANOVA using SPSS Introduction The one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) is used to determine whether there are any significant differences between the means of two or more independent (unrelated) groups (although you tend to only see it used when there are a minimum of three, rather than two groups). For example, you could use a one-way ANOVA to understand whether exam performance differed based on test anxiety levels amongst students, dividing students into three independent groups (e.g., low, medium and high-stressed students). It is important to realise that the one-way ANOVA is an omnibus test statistic and cannot tell you which specific groups were significantly different from each other; it only tells you that at least two groups were different. Since you may have three, four, five or more groups in your study design, determining which of these groups differ from each other is important. You can do this using a post-hoc test (N.B., we discuss post-hoc tests later in this guide) Example A manager wants to raise the productivity at his company by increasing the speed at which his employees can use a particular spreadsheet program. As he does not have the skills in-house, he employs an external agency which provides training in this spreadsheet program. They offer 3 courses: a beginner, intermediate and advanced course. He is unsure which course is needed for the type of work they do at his company, so he sends 10 employees on the beginner course, 10 on the intermediate...

...job category are listed. The Frequency column records the number of observations that fall within a particular job category. As I have sorted our using SPSS, Clerical, Office Trainee, Security Officer, College Trainee, Exempt Employee, MBA Trainee, and Technical job category represent 227, 136, 27, 41, 32, 5, and 6 respectively out of the total employees of 474. The percent column shows how much each job category possesses of total employees. As you can see, as Clerical, Office Trainee, Security Officer, College Trainee, Exempt Employee, MBA Trainee, and Technical employment category represent 47.9%, 28.7%, 5.7%, 8.6%, 6.8%, 1.1% and 1.1% respectively. The Cumulative frequency column lists the total of each frequency added to its predecessor, such as, Clerical job category itself represents 47.9% of all employees and then Office Trainee job category represents 28.7%, but both Clerical and Office Trainee represents 76.6% of the total population. If we consider, Clerical, Office Trainee, and Security Officer; all of them represent 82.3% of the total employees. This is what cumulative percent is all about. b) Using Chart Builder feature from Graphs Menu of SPSS 17.0, I have generated a Pie Chart that shows the percentages of employees within each job category: c) Using Chart Builder feature from Graphs Menu of SPSS 17.0, I have generated a Bar Chart that showing the distribution of employees within job categories: Question 2 a) Using Chart Builder...

...Demonstration for solving the homework problem assigned on Jan 20. Use SPSS to compute the mean, median, standard deviation, and standard error of the mean for the following set of data. Report your results in an APA-style table of descriptive statistics. | |Score | | | | |Group 1 |4 4 5 6 4 | | | | |Group 2 |2 4 4 3 4 | | | | |Group 3 |6 4 4 5 6 | One of the first things you needed to do was figure out how to enter the data. Remember, on the SPSS data spreadsheet, rows contain cases, and columns contain variables. So, how many variables to we have. Certainly Score is a variable. Are there any other variables? Some careful thinking (also spending some time working through the various tutorials available) should have lead you to a realization that we need a group identifying variable, Group, say. So, the first thing I do, after starting SPSS, is to go to the Variable View tab (at the bottom of the SPSS Data Editor) and enter my two variable names (see Figure 1 below). |[pic] | |Figure 1 | Next, I switch to the Data View tab and enter the data for each variable (Figure 2). Everyone in group 1 gets a 1 under Group, those in...
