...know what is in their food and exactly what they are putting in their bodies. California's proposition 37, states the requirement to label all food products that contain genetically modified organisms (GMO). It is important to the health of humanity to be aware of the harmful effects of GMO. Unfortunately, due to the dangers of the food they consume, that to them seem ''healthy'' as this Prop did not pass. Even organic food is not safe to eat anymore because there might very well be GMO in it. Why is GMO bad? I believe, in order to improve the culture of humanity and unify a healthy way living there must be a change in notifying people what they are putting into their uninformed bodies. Genetically modified organisms may have benefits that make food look better, taste better, more plump and juicy, or have more color than its original pure form. In order for GMO's to achieve this, the food must be changed in a laboratory by a specialized scientist. Companies portray their product to be all naturally grown and organic, but it's likely that they contain GMO unless there is a label saying there is no GMO. GMO's harmful effects that people need to be aware of are increase in toxicity, decreased nutrition, new allergens, cancer, and tumors. For example, Monsanto is the world's leading producer of GMO and scientists there have discovered cancer in their lab rats after the consumption of genetically modified corn. Food that has a label which say it has no GMO is usually more expensive...

...You Are What You Eat Ever wonder why organic food prices are higher than non-organic produce? For example, when shoppers go into the produce section of the store they see two parts, organic produce and non-organic. Non-organic strawberries are cheaper than organic strawberries. Why would the price differ if they are both the same strawberries? They may taste the same, but the non- organic strawberry have pesticide residue on it. Eating organic food is healthier than non-organic food, because organic food does not contain harmful pesticides, have a higher nutrient content, and does not contain genetically modified organism. Organic is referred to the way farmers grow and process their products. Organic food is better for the environment. Organic growers conserve energy by decreasing the use of fossil fuel. By organic farmers doing this, it helps to minimize the environment pollution. Farmers on an organically farm do not use harmful pesticides to grow their food. A pesticide is a substance used for destroying insects or organism harmful to discriminating animals and plants. Organic farmers use safer methods to protect their crops. One of the rigorous methods is trapping insects instead of using pesticides that can stay on non-organic produce. On the other hand, conventional growers use toxic substances to protect their crops. Even with washing off conventional produce there is still residue left on the food. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, pesticides can...

...Modified Organisms Should not be allowed in our foods today. The debate over Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are starting to become more of a hot topic and is now not a secret that GMO-ed foods have spread out rapidly to the whole world. Government officials should take the proper steps to ensure our countries safety and not allow GMO’s in our foods today, and if it is needed, labeling should be mandatory. Even though it is banned in other countries, our government is still allowing the United Stated to continue with GMO cropping and without labeling it. We should know why it is harmful to our health and how we can prevent it. GMOs could cause health issues, create allergies, toxins, new diseases and nutritional problems. First, GMOs are harmful to our health. Second, these crops can lead to contaminated organic crops, and serious destruction of the environment, which could also lead to toxins and allergens surrounding us. Third, there are some companies that intend to monopolize market-foods, which work with GMOs. Finally, labeling should be a very important factor in the GMO industry, to ensure people would recognize how dangerous GMO’s are for us. GMOs are special organisms in which the genetic material has been altered for improvement productivity and product quality. First, Research and studies show that GMOs could be very harmful. Through manipulating our crops our health is at a serious risk. “Numerous health problems increased after GMOs were introduced in 1996...

...Lives In recent years, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) have replaced our diet with genetically altered foods, which have adversely affected human health as well as local communities. Being resistant to pesticides, GMOs are created by splicing genes of different species that are combined through genetic engineering (GE), something that is impossible to do in nature (The Non-GMO Project). Consuming these genetically altered and more processed foods can lead to increased risk of diseases and even cancer (Genetically Modified Food). Most of the time we do not even realize that we are eating these harmful toxins as they are infused in our food without our knowledge (Label GMOs). The farmers that maintain the traditional farming practices and choose to grow organic produce over crops that are GE are constantly trying to keep their businesses alive. Larger corporations, however, who choose to use genetically modified (GM) seeds, make larger profits with less time and effort involved. Choosing to buy local organic produce over crops that contain genetically modified organisms can not only help you stay healthy, but also keep our local farmers in business so that they may continue to grow their crops the way nature intended. Living in the Bay Area we are extremely fortunate to have access to all sorts of organic fruits and vegetables that are grown right in our own backyard. There are countless farms in California that can grow just about anything due to the fertile soil and ideal...

...a widely controversial topic among many farmers, health consultants, and the general population. These new breeds or organisms have created an immense separation in the food industry, basically splitting people onto sides of organic or non organic. Organically grown and non modified foods have become its own genre of products and are rising in popularity against their modified versions, which have ruled the food industry for the last 10 years. There are many environmentally safe and healthy ways for genetic modification can expand into other crops and foods without harming the animals, plants, or environment. These...

...Rebecca Vann 30 September 2013 We have the right to know The era that we now live in is so big that farmers are using Genetically modified foods (GMO) to help make more produce for the society("20 Quotes About”). There are benefits from GMOS but there are also consequences of the GMO’S. The only thing they tell you about the GMOS is the side effects that are not harmful to the body. They make the produce taste and look better than the organic foods that do not have the GMOS on it. The people deserve the right to know if the food is being genetically modified or not. The first thing I want to address is the benefits of the GMOS. The GMOS help farmers produce more product and they help kill the weeds that grow in the fields. Some people are saying that they GMOS help the body absorb some the vitamins we need in are body to make are body healthy ("PolicyMic."). Fourteen states have now tried to legislated a law that shows which foods are genetically modified and the risks that involves the food modifications. California is trying to follow the legislation in becoming the fifteenth state. People say we do not need to know what is modified or not because the food we eat no matter what has bacteria on them ("PolicyMic."). Henry Miller pointed out that the GMOS help crops grow in harsh environments produce less water and less carbon oxide ("PolicyMic."). The GMOS help produce cheaper food in huge amounts and in a suitable manner. Companies do not want the consumers to know...

...The Growing Problem with Obesity One of the biggest health problems that face America’s is the increasing number of obese people. Obesity has surpassed smoking as the number one cause of health risks in America. With the number of obese people growing by the day something has to be done soon. Many people know and understand that alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs are bad for us and should not be used, but few people know or realize that food could be just as damaging. Food is just like water, we need it to survive, but if it is used in excess it could be very damaging or deadly to the human body. America and the world have been getting larger and larger over the last thirty to forty years which has lead to health problems and will lead to decrease in life expectancy. So what has caused this shift from normal body fat to excess body fat? Many people believe that the increase in the world’s body fat is due to fast food and lack in exercise. Although these factors may be true there is more to that than one would think. Fast food and possessed foods are a main contributor to excess body fat as Andrew Martin writes in an article “Hardee’s restaurants recently scrapped almost its entire menu to focus on hefty sandwiches called Thickburgers--including the Double Bacon Cheese Thickburger, weighing in at two-thirds of a pound and 1,148 calories” (Martin, 2003, para. 1). This is just one example, of a burger that is more than half the recommended 2000 calories that a person should...

...Domino’s Pizza Goes Natural Nicole Phillips MKG310 – Introduction to Marketing Colorado State University – Global Campus Professor Michael Aubry October 25, 2015 Executive Summary The pizza industry is a mature and highly competitive market, while the organic/natural and vegetarian market is one that is seldom addressed, yet consumers are increasingly showing their interests in such foods. Domino’s Pizza has the opportunity to be an innovator in this groundbreaking field, and by only seeing a slight increase in costs of sales and advertisement, creating and releasing menu items that are organic/natural based or vegetarian will help Domino’s dominate the competition, while gaining three new market segments and positive PR. The following market plan will show in detail the opportunities Domino’s has on the horizon that they can utilize their competitively low prices for, and the steps and tactics they will need to implement in order to achieve success in this new field. Company Overview In 1960, brothers Tom and James Monaghan borrowed nine hundred dollars to purchase “DomiNick’s”, a pizzeria in Ypsilanti, Michigan (History, n.d). After growing bored of the pizza business, James traded Tom his half of the company for a Volkswagen Beetle, making Tom the sole owner of the company (History, n.d). Monaghan changed the company name to the one we know and love today, Domino’s, in 1965 with a mission to sell more pizza, and have more fun (Domino's Vision, Mission and Value...
