Stella’s Adventures was written for children between the ages for 7-9 years old. The book is intended to show kids that traveling to another country can be very fun, even if not a lot their classmates are traveling out of the country. Even though Stella’s classmates were all going to Disneyland, Stella found out that there were other things that could be better than Disneyland. She experience “Disneyland” in her own culture, giving her a better experience.
The theme of the book is traveling to another country. Being born in the United States, many children are accustomed to the American lifestyle. Traveling outside of the country may not sound like a fun idea to children because of the far venture. In this story, Stella, the main character does not want to go to China for her family vacation because all of her classmates are going to Disneyland or Disneyworld. They are telling Stella that she isn’t going to have fun because she isn’t going to be at Disneyland. The resolution of the story is that Stella actually has a lot of fun, and ends up going to an amusement park with a Disney theme. When she comes back to school, and all the children tell their stories of what happened during their summer vacation, Stella tells them the full-detailed story about her vacation, and the bully, Marvin, actually says the he wishes he can go to China.
Stella starts off as an ignorant child, only thinking about herself and what her classmates think of her. She does not consider what her family wants, which is to go to China. She constantly complains about not being able to go to Disneyland or Disneyworld. This makes her pout and not enjoy her first days in China. As the story progresses, she learns that China is a beautiful place, and she is having a lot of fun. She learns the value of being privileged enough to travel to another country. She also learns the virtue of gratitude

Jack London

...Jack London began his adventures at a very early age. Born out of wedlock and into a poverty-ridden family he learned to find ways of escaping the dull routine of work. At the age of ten London was selling newspapers to supplement the family income. He labored in canneries, mills, doing laundry and shoveling coal so that he could support his family. Between the laborious chores of earning a living London also had numerous adventures when he tried the other side of the law. The adventures started when he buys himself a small skiff and teaches himself to sail but the pressures of home life take that away from he and he is forced to work at a cannery starting at the tender age of 14. Even at that age Jack London still had continuous thoughts of writing for a living. At the age of 15 London is tired of the low wages and the back breaking work of the factory and decides to take matters into his own hands. He sails out to become an Oyster pirate with the ship “The Razzle Dazzle” that he purchases with money borrowed from Virginia Prentiss. The title “Prince of the Oyster Pirates” is soon given to him, but he soon becomes disillusioned with the rough life and decides to change to the other side of the law again. The next year he joins the Fish Patrol to stop the pirating of the oyster fields. He does not find that to his liking either. His main thought is to get money anyway that he can, legal or illegal, and still have all the adventures he craves. London...

Ecuador Monologue

...One summer, when I was about 12 years old, I got to do just that. I was very young when my grandpa and grandma got involved in the foreign exchange program. An 18 year old man named Angel Uruchima, from Ecuador, came to stay with them and go to school. Angel now lives in Australia, but he frequently visits his family in Ecuador. On one of his many visits my grandpa and I were invited to go to Ecuador with him. We got on plane and flew all the way to Ecuador, where we met Angel’s family and started our adventure. There, customs were quite different from what I was used to in the United States. I had never left the country before, so I had no clear idea on what to expect. The food that we ate was an adventure in itself. We ate all sorts of vegetable that I had never heard of before, swordfish, and even guinea pigs, which is considered a delicacy. The next journey that we embark upon was whale watching and snorkeling. A local business took us out on the ocean to watch whales jump and spray enormous amounts of water high in the air. After a few hours on the water, we got the opportunity to stop and snorkel. I saw tons of fish I’ve never seen or heard of before while snorkeling and the coral reefs were stunning. The activity that terrified me the greatest was going waterfall rappelling. All of Angel’s younger cousins and I, first climbed up a multitude...

Ten Million

...travel to Madagascar where I would begin with a trek in the Bongolava Mountains. We could spend weeks mountain climbing and repelling from mountain peaks. Swinging from ropes and camping cliff side. Imagine the view in the morning when we would wake up, seeing the sun rise over those African island mountains. Perhaps I could purchase a pet lemur to sit on my shoulder as I venture through the wilderness of Madagascar. Then my team would have to have a canoe safari on the Manambolo River. Without life jackets we would brave the white water rapids and explore the Gorge of Bemaraha, with its steep rocks and grottos. The beauty and sheer wonder of this unspoiled tropical island make Madagascar the perfect place to begin my worldly adventures. Next the team would fly to Cambodia, to see the unexplored and exotic destinations it holds hidden in the jungles. We would bushwhack through the rugged jungles and find ancient and remote temples. Our days would be spent hiking through the lush vegetation in search of the exceptional secluded tribes of native jungle peoples and natural and manmade wonders. In Cambodia I would ride an elephant to the temple complex of Angor. My crew and I would maneuver the flooded forests of the Mekong, and see rare fresh water dolphins in remote jungle streams. We would snorkel in the pristine locations on the Cambodian coast and off secluded islands off Cambodia’s coast. We would enjoy...

...My Dream Job (narrative essays) Many years ago, when I was a small child, I admired adventures. I think that since I breathed in for the first time and felt the ground underneath my feet, when for the very first time I looked at the night sky and its many eyes, I wished to live the life of an adventurer. To stride the deserts, to explore the jungles, to wander through the lost cities and to dive into the deep darkness of the ocean I find extremely exciting. My wish is to be an adventurer. To be an adventurer you need some qualities. You need to know how to get out of some risky and dangerous situations. You need to know how to survive. It would also be recommended to know how to sail, because a good sailor a good adventurer. What is more, the most epic adventures are found on the sea. The best thing about going on an adventure is that it is really exciting, filled with thrill and danger. And, I know it is a bit cliche, but danger is my middle name. Another good thing about adventure is the sights you see, the beautiful forests, and the castles... so many wonderful castles that have numerous ancient tales about knights and dragons. But like every human has his disadvantages, going on adventures has its bad sides too. In all the thrill and danger, many have lost their lives. And so 'through the darkness and night a beam of light appears and the Dovahkiin comes,' as the legend says. One day, a man shall appear and repell all the evil, he'll kill all the foes of his...

Adventure

...Adventure refers to the exciting activity or unusual experience. These experiences are often of daring or risky nature. There are many people whose life is filled up with adventurous experiences. The definition of Adventure varies from person to person. It is in actually defined as ‘a risky undertaking of unknown outcome’ which means that an adventurer is one who gets a thrill out of exploits, the result of which may also be dangerous or if in favour, then sublime. Let us consider the options individuals have for adventure, in the modern world, to suit their tastes. To start off with, we can consider sports and its varied disciplines, which are adventurous for sportsmen. Ballooning is a sport which has a lot of scope for adventure; of course it is only for those who can afford it, being a costly proposition. The element of risk is always there with the change of weather and balloons filled with helium prone to lightning and leaks. One can imagine the thrill of rising high into the sky without the drone of an engine and with the advantage of being able to control the direction. The risk factor also is great like the attempts at crossing the Atlantic where these contraption have fallen into oceans after facing turbulent weather or landed on top of mountains with the occupant not equipped to get down to inhabited areas. Speed Boating, Car Racing, Buggy Jumping aster all very adventurous sports, enjoyed by thousands of enthusiasts, the world over. There are some people...

Science Remains Undiscovered

...My Adventurous Journey Travelling has always excited me and when it gets more adventurous it is more interesting. I love travelling and so do my parents. So whenever they get time, we set out for our great journeys that are filled with lots of adventures, fun and excitement. This time we thought we would go trekking. I was so excited that I could not sleep for days. I have only seen in movies and read in books how difficult it is and how one does trekking. My father told me that I would not be allowed great heights and no fuss at the location and so I had no choice, other than listen to him. We, along with our family friends, on our holidays planned our trip and started preparations for it. We used to do our daily exercises so that it would strengthen our bones and muscles for the climb. On the D-day we were so excited that we kids could not control it. With lots of instructions and warnings we stared our journey and the much awaited journey came to an end. When we reached our destination. It was real fun. First we kids were allowed to climb for a small height. It was really adventurous. Stepping on the foot of a mountain to climb it is really exciting. We tried hard, but could not make it to a good height that we could. Then our parents went and they too had a tough time. Slipping and falling and then again retrying, it was all so much fun. We then took a break and tried climbing once again, this time getting better. We were briefed with the risks involved and so...

...Adorno (Audience Theory) Passive Consumption, Hypodermic Model (Frankfurt School): "A strong argument suggests that audiences may be passively affected by the sexist, violent representations in GTAV as it is a more realist text than other shoot em' up action adventure games. Young audiences ultimately may begin to view women differently and think that the aspirational violence is acceptable as a means to an end". Andy Medhurst (Representation Theory) Stereotyping is Shorthand for Identification: "One way that texts like Waterloo Road and Skins for example allow for audience identification is through stereotyping and giving characters an extreme representation". Angela McRobbie (Gender Theory) Post Feminist Icon Theory: "Lara Croft, Lady Gaga and Madonna for example could be identified as post feminist icons as they exhibit the stereotypical characteristics of both the male and female strength, courage, control and logic but also are willing to be sexualized for the male gaze. This control element of their own representation is crucial in understanding the theory". Baudrillard Hyper Reality: "Some texts are difficult to distinguish in terms of the representation of reality from a simulation of reality e.g. Big Brother. The boundaries are blurred as codes and conventions create a set of signifiers which we understand but in fact the representation is a copy of a copy". Doug Levandowski's Meaningful Decisions

...Meaningful Decisions: Doug Levandowski on Design Choices in Gothic Doctor In our Meaningful Decisions series, we ask designers about the design choices they made while creating their games, and what lessons other designers can take away from those decisions. In this edition, we talk with Doug Levandowski, the co-designer of Gothic Doctor, about player choice, balancing powerful cards, endgame triggers and more. The rules for Gothic Doctor tell players to remove any action cards they want to before starting the game. Why? Gothic Doctor is a broad enough game that it could be good for younger gamers or gamers more interested in a light experience--and with the Partial Treatments variation in the expansion, it can be good for players who want to make more risk vs. reward kinds of decisions. With that in mind, John McNeill, the game’s co-designer, and I decided--even before the expansion--that we wanted to put this caveat into the rules. Some players want to play more of a multiplayer-solitaire game, and some players (especially in set collection games) really hate having their sets disrupted; on the other hand, some players want to have a stronger take-that element to the game. So in light of that, we decided the easiest way to make the game fun for all different kinds of players was to give players the option to alter the balance of the action cards however they wanted. We sort of stole that idea from Dominion. Don't want curse/attack cards? Cool! Leave them out! Want to attack...

The Effect of the Internet on Tourism

...CHAPTER I The Problem and its Settings Introduction The term ecotourism was unknown in the English language as recently as the mid-1980’s. Yet, by the beginning of the 21st century, this form of recreational activity, which essentially involves the observation an appreciation of wildlife and other aspects of the natural environment while minimizing the related ecological or sociocultural costs, had emerged as a major component of global tourism and an important focus for academics in the field of tourism studies. Many stakeholders, however, while enthusiastically embracing the concept of ecotourism as defined above, still do not really understand what it means: what activities qualify, who participates, where it occurs, what impact is acceptable, or how it can be optimally managed. A balanced and comprehensive exposure to the growing knowledge base of ecotourism that will assist their ability to place in context, critically evaluate and effectively manage the sector. (Weaver, D. Ecotourism, 2nd edition: ESP Printers, Inc. 2008). Just as tourism has grown and changed, ecotourism also has gone through a kind of metamorphosis. In its early days, ecotourism was seen more as a type of travel and a specific market niche. Today, it is increasingly viewed as a travel concept or philosophy, based upon a set of principles that can, and should, be applied across the widest possible spectrum of the global tourism industry in an effort to make tourism truly sustainable and a positive...
