...time in each person’s life when they must step out of the world they know and take a chance. It is not an easy thing to do, nor is it always done in the correct manor. However, it is something that is done around the world by people in all walks of life. Here, in the United States, it is most common for children to “leave the nest” when they graduate from high school and move off to college. Yet, not everyone follows this pattern and it has been found that the longer you wait to leave the harder it is to do. In the fall of 2010 I was asked by my older sister to move to California with her, her husband and their – at the time – four children. I kept telling her “No” but she kept asking. Finally, in March of 2011 I decided that I would go down to California and see what happens. After all, I lived at home with my parents and my two nieces that my parents have custody of. I thought that maybe if I were to leave it would force my younger sister to step up and be an actual parent. I decided that I would finish out the summer at work and move to California in the fall. I was hoping that it would not be too hot if I did it that way. I therefore put in my notice at work, telling them that I would be leaving in August. I took my time to pack and tell my friends and family that I was moving to California and that I did not know when I would be back. This was the entire process of my decision-making. My sister asked me to move, I said yes, I quit my job, I bought a one-way ticket to California...

...decision. Fritzsche, David (2007) states “ Personal values have long been associated with individual decision behavior” (p. 1). As mentioned in the quote, the decision was driven by my personal values. The process and the decision of buying a home were longer than expected. The process in making the decision was based upon continuing to rent or own a property. In the decision-making process I was assisted by my wife and it consisted of the following, Identifying my decision, self assessment, gathering information (pros/cons), weigh out the best option, analyzing my option, select my option, and finally take action toward my decision. The process in making my decision had a structure, as previously stated I had identified my decision of buying a home rather than renting. This first step was based on my family values and proving a place to call home. The second step was completing a full self- assessment. Part of the assessment consisted of analyzing my finances, needs, and wants. This second step was a very important one because evaluation my finances played an important role in the final decision. The third step was gathering all the information of owning a home rather than renting. Part of this step included understanding the pros and cons of both options. The fourth step embraces the third step, after gathering enough information I ensured the pros surpassed the cons to help me lean toward the selection of...

... Decision Making Process Introduction There are several steps in the decision-making process. Have you ever wondered how do you make the decision that you make? In my paper I will be discussing each step of the decision making process. I will also compare my decision making process to the one in the text. Also I will include how my decision outcome would have been different if I would have made another decision by following the decision making process. I will be discussing a time in my life where I had to make a bug decision. I think that the decision that we make along the way can sometimes come back and ruin your life. Decision making process The first step in the decision making process is to identify and detect the problem. This step lets you reveal whatever the problem is to inform you that a problem exists. A few years ago, my friend told me that they were hiring where she was working, she knew I was looking for a job and I told her that I would think about it because working with friends can be a problem sometimes. So a couple of months went by on the job and I saw that my friend was taking things from the store. So the problem was should I tell on my friend. The second step in the decision making process is to generate alternatives to the situation; either I would have to tell on my friend or put in my two week notice. I had to really think about all my options that were available to me. The third step in the decision making process is to evaluate your alternatives...

It does not possess plentiful resources, finances or land mass. On a personal level I was once much like my country—insignificant and unnoticeable. I didn't play sports or embark on any adventures or challenges. I lived a boring life. If I were a flavor, I'd be vanilla. At the age __, things changed. A strong desire birthed within me to do something meaningful with my life. Dreams of attending university and plotting a career path dominated my thoughts. Looking around at my situation, I quickly realized that HOMETOWN was not the suitable place to achieve that dream. I was a frog in a well. I began to search for what I felt would be the ideal setting to study and to fulfill my goals. My quest soon culminated with (College). Here was an institution that had all the elements I was looking for as an international student preparing to make a global impact. New York is one of, if not the most, cosmopolitan cities in the world. It thrives with people of various nationalities and ethnicities. Even though the grand stage of __________ is a far cry from my home city, (COLLEGE)'s multicultural student body and international focus is exactly the environment where I'd feel at home. In addition, because of its focus, and international campuses, (COLLEGE)'s academic programs offer relevant, and first-hand perspectives on world concerns. That kind of emphasis...

...I believe that an MBA is vital for both my current and future endeavors. As the world’s population is getting more educated and challenges are becoming more complex it is pivotal for one to possess a well respected and extremely useful advanced degree. I feel that gaining my undergraduate degree and working for some years after has prepared me for the challenge and privilege of working towards acquiring my MBA. I would greatly utilize, honor, and respect the award of a graduate degree from The University of Maryland. My short term aspirations after receiving my MBA are to acquire a managerial or more senior level position within a large, international organization similar to where I now work. In the current business environment those making important decisions and being entrusted with greater responsibilities must have the prerequisite experience, education, and background to succeed. The Smith MBA will inspire confidence in potential employer’s that I can handle the myriad of possibilities that must be dealt with on a daily basis. In order to be confident of your upward mobility within an organization or as a business owner you must be someone who is prepared for current and future challenges that you will face. My colleagues at the World Bank have demonstrated to me the advanced educational background and constant desire to learn that is necessary to thrive in today’s competitive business environment. Most of those in leadership positions within large organizations...

...The American Dream Dreams can be big or small, sentimental or materialistic, from wanting five dollars to a nice car to world peace and everything in between. Everyone has dreams in life, they are what make the world turn, but only the person dreaming can put forth the effort to achieve that dream. I have a dream to become a cardiologist or heart doctor, which requires me to graduate high school, graduate college, and graduate from medical school. Although it won’t be easy, getting my high school diploma is the first major part of my dream in which I’ll need to get good grades, attend school, and give my best effort. Getting good grades is a key step to graduate high school. To do this I’ll need to attend school regularly and give my absolute best effort. I can do this by getting plenty of sleep, turning in all my homework, studying for every test and working my schedule around school. Even on those days where I’m feeling lazy or go hang out with my friends I’ll have to keep in mind the big picture and make sacrifices. All four years of high school will require every ounce of effort I possess, but in the end I know walking across that stage with a diploma in my hand, one step closer to my dream, it’ll be worth the sacrifices. In the next step, graduating college, I’ll need to be able to force myself to go to class, make the grades, and not get distracted by college life. During the college years it can be much easier to skip class and not do your work, considering you don’t...

...with the next step in the journey of life. Different stages will present varying demands that will require decisions to be made. Every day, individuals are faced with opportunities, and with opportunities we are faced with decisions. This paper will briefly discuss just one decision that was recently presented in my life. I will discuss the steps taken to reach the decision, and the similarities to formal decision-making steps used in the business world. Finally, I will reflect whether or not my decision would have differed if formal steps had been used. I had a decision to make. I was going to have two children under the age of two. How would life work once I was done with maternity leave? What sort of life would our family have with the schedules we were currently doing? My husband’s work schedule was Monday through Friday, daytime, as teacher at an elementary school. My work schedule was Thursday through Saturday, and then Monday, overnight grave shifts that would get me home just in time for my husband to leave for work. How would I be able to care for my kids working this schedule? Would we even be able to afford anything in our area? Would I be able to change my schedule? Could we afford for me to change my schedule? Should I stay in the medical field? Part of the incentive to work the schedule I was working was a higher differential pay than a standard, daytime schedule. If we did daycare or childcare, I would be paying my employer to work...
