James knows the number: 17. He learned it previously that day in his class, but he’s crumbling under the pressure, as if multiple heavy boulders were falling on top of him, one after the other. But he can only lift up these rocks with one thing: his steroids. Without them, James would let his whole team down, he wouldn’t be able to tackle the running back and win back the school pride. Yes, he’s cheating, but for the greater good. Besides, when you think about 17% out of 100, it’s not a big number, right? Which is why we have to establish consequences for teenagers, who according to a survey I recently conducted, will continue doing bad things if there isn’t punishment. One of my questions on the survey was: “If you have ever gotten away with doing anything bad, have you ever done the same action once again or multiple more times?” 10% responded that they have repeated the action once more, while 35% answered that they have repeated that same action multiple times again. This goes to show that a major part teens and young adults can’t handle the responsibility of having to do the right thing on their own, which requires people in authority to help prevent them from harming themselves and cheating once …show more content…
Paige Turner of Demand Media states in an article that, “Researchers at the University of Illinois lists drugs and alcohol as the third main factor that causes teen violence. With an increase in violence, the higher the likelihood of teens bringing weapons into school is.” She also makes a crucial point by saying that “Students who take drugs are also more likely to resist authority. This increases tension in class and causes others to lose focus.” Just one person taking stimulants or narcotics causes a chain reaction which can be prevented by school drug testing. Students taking steroids could result in psychologically disturbed behavior, and aggression. Both steroids and inhalers could result in physical pain, where ADHD or caffeine pills could lead to behavioral issues which could disrupt the learning environment. Schools should be able to educate students without interruptions caused by bad decisions, and the only way to do that is to run randomized tests to ensure no pupil is prone to doing
