Nonverbal behavior is sending and receiving messages in a variety of ways without using words. Basically, it serves as a key aspect of communication. 1 James made many mistakes during his meeting with Mr. Croze. James first mistake was his tardiness at their scheduled business meeting. The fact that he showed no empathy or respect for Mr. Croze’s time, would immediately put Mr. Croze on the defensive and would greatly affect any positive outcome regarding this meeting. In addition to the lack of his attention of his tardiness, he walked around Mr. Croze’s desk to shake his hand. This could also be perceived as another sign of disrespect. James should have reached across Mr. Croze’s desk to extend his hand. Secondly, crossing your arms and legs might seem defiant or annoyed to someone. Mr. Croze would probably feel James was irritated or defensive. I believe the tone and speed in which James spoke to Mr. Croze also was a huge mistake. Usually when someone has a high pitch tone and speaking quickly is a sign of discomfort, irritation and anger. James was the man who was late for the meeting, not Mr. Croze. He showed no respect or remorse for holding up Mr. Croze’s time. 2 Bob Croze also showed many nonverbal signs of communication to Mr. Grunloh. Bob rubbing his knows was a sign of impatience. He was irritated with the tardiness of Mr. Grunloh. Also when Bob crossed his arms and legs, this too was cue of defiance and annoyance much like Mr. Grunloh. However, when Bob uncrossed his extremities, he was showing complete attention and surprise. Mr. Croze had put his guard down wondering how he could still be a part of this new benefit of lower prices with Appleton Office Supplies Company. 2
